  1. Dear all A long time since I have posted on here and hopefully it is in the correct forum. I have been receiving phone calls from PRA Uk who I believe are connected to Mackenzie Hall. I don't have any reason for a DDA to be contacting me and they are using my previous name before I got married and that was 13 years ago, I have an IVA back then but that settled and all done. Somehow they have got my work number and I get numerous call per week, its annoying, I am aware of their tactics and I haven't given them any info, not even confirmed my name. Just said the person they want doesn't exist, technically they don't. Reading on other threads there are template letters including CCA etc. However as i haven't got a clue what they want and I won't go through any security questions, what can I do, Keep ignoring them and tell them to go away and stop calling, it is a nuisance. Any tips to deal with this would be greatful. Thanks
  2. There are already a few posts on UK-based debts of people staying in Germany, but none specifically about phone calls, namely how to get a debt collector's data in order to send them a "cease-and-desist" letter, because they are calling not only me at work, but also our HR people while trying to contact me. I have started getting phone calls at work from someone who is very much not German (rather extremely English), although her number is hidden. The first time, I was honestly confused and didn't know what it was about; told her she had the wrong number. The number on the caller ID was very strange: it was neither a valid UK nor German number, although it started with 044. Then finally she (or another girl-- not sure) contacted me another day. The most info I could get from her was her first name... so obviously a debt collector. I told her I don't understand why she's calling and told her not to call me at this number because I'm not allowed to take private calls at work. I didn't give my name or anything, but I'm sure she's suspicious now because I also refused to give her any information she wanted... which may ironically have caused the opposite reaction I wanted... I simply cannot have these people calling me at work, and ESPECIALLY not other people at work. However, I doubt I'll be able to get any useful information from her, and I couldn't Google anything useful from the partial number I got on the caller ID the first time she called. I need to know how (or if it is even possible) to find the company details myself or to get her to tell me them, so that I can send a letter telling them to stop... and then whether I should quote UK law, German law or both when writing. I'd be very thankful for ANY tips about the situation.
  3. Starting at 8.30am every morning for the past few weeks, I am getting literally dozens of telephone calls from these idiots. Each time I say I am not prepared to speak with them over the phone and askid them to write to me (no letters have appeared). I have sent them a template letter asking them not to contact me by phone any longer, and just now I have had a call from them. The *ahem* 'gentleman' on the other end of the phone was, in tyical DCA fashion, aggressive and argumentative, and told me when I pointed out the law he was breaking that it is 'up to us, not you how we contact you'. What the dealio?? How do I go about making a complaint about the harassment because I really am coming to my wits end with these imbeciles! I was even told by one that if i 'completed security then the calls would stop'. I know the tricks, and really have no issue hanging up on them half way through their shouting, but I would rather not ave the calls in the first place...
  4. Advice sought on potential illegality of Capital One breach and mis-use of personal data I am a UK citizen who currently lives and works in Brazil at an International school. I return to the UK in December and July each year for around 5 weeks each time. I have a Capital One credit card. I told the company I live in Brazil and have given them my phone numbers in Brazil, but they never use them. I am late with my last 2 payments but can not make the payment until I come back to the UK in a few weeks. However, here`s the thing - Capital One have somehow gotten hold of both of my elderly parents` mobile numbers (without my consent) and are calling them several times a day (sometimes at 8am or 8.30pm) to hassle them about my debt. I do not dispute that I owe them money and that I am late with payment - that`s my fault; fine, and it will be dealt with, but I have 2 questions here: 1. I am very suspicious as to how they obtained my parents` mobile numbers. The numbers are not listed anywhere and I have never given them out to anyone. The only way they could have done it is by accessing phone company or (police?) database info. Is there a law which allows the company to obtain my parents` phone numbers? 2. Are they allowed to call up and hassle relatives of a client who owes them money? I am concerned, suspicious (about the legality of their actions) and very angry indeed about the hassling of my parents, one of whom has a serious illness, so I would be very grateful to anyone who can help with this in any way. Thank You for reading, and for your time and help.
