My wife has a 2010 Diesel Outlander. She was very low on fuel, and brimmed it with petrol. She then drove just shy of a mile before it splutted and came to a stop with her instant realisation of her mistake. Quick call to the insurance company and they picked up the car and took it to a Lookers garage. Lookers had it for 3 days, on the 3rd day drained the tank (via the engine bay) and replaced the fuel filter. They said the car was now all sorted, they added some fuel and some additive to the fuel to ensure smooth running. I picked it up and paid the insurance excess. That was around 60 miles ago - the tank was showing half full when the handed it back, and we drove on this without topping up. The car MPG has dropped about 25%, it's knocking slightly and the engine management light has come on, and it smells of petrol fumes. We phoned the insurance company, who have been excellent, and said they would transport the car directly to the garage to have it repaired. They said if it turns out to be non-fuel related, they will cover the cost of transportation, but if it is related to the misfuel, the garage would have to pay for the transportation as they let the car go before it was fixed. The garage have just phoned and said: 4 error messages Fuel Filter Exchange - probably fuel related, they are going to brim it full of diesel and drive it for 40 miles (me paying for the diesel) they said there might be a small amount of petrol still in the system Speed Sensor - not fuel related apparently although no problems before the misfuel Air Flow Low - problem with the air flow meter (which they had to remove to get to the fuel filter) but not excepting any responsibility as not fuel related. And cant remember the 4th Other issues they have now noticed they hadn't before: Leaking injector - Saying isn't fuel related.... not sure how it's not. Exhaust slight blow - understand this isn't fuel related, but had an exhaust check only last month I don't know what parts are misfuel related, and which aren't if I am honest. I would assume the injector(s) now leaking are part of a claim, but they say they are not. I am awaiting the results of tank of diesel going in and a 40 miles drive that should be happening now - however not sure how to proceed with the injectors and other issues that I believe could be fuel related.... would it be to get an experts opinion? Hi what is the legal minimum spend on fuel in terms of litres

Just wanted to get a clarification on the law. My next door neighbour called in at Tesco to fill up in the works van [ well known firm & van is sign written] . Filled up & went to pay, he had forgotten his wallet. Informed the lady behind the counter & immediately he said she barked " stand over there". Made him wait while she served everyone in the shop, then told him to produce some ID. He reminded her he had forgotten his wallet , she then produced a book & asked him for his details. Normally he would have signed , but her attitude narked him. He asked if he was legally obliged to sign , she called the manager who informed him if he did`t sign he would call the police. He repeated the question & after a lot of side stepping the manager admitted it was not a legal requirement. He explained that , you have the van reg, the company name, CCTV of my face & i live a 5 minute drive away . The manager then informed my neighbour that if he left the station he would report it as a theft. He left , got his wallet , returned & payed. He does not know if the manager phoned the police , so he wants to be prepared if they do come a calling. The firm have now told the drivers that they can`t fill up at Tesco as a result of his treatment

I could not pay petrol at Sainsbury's petrol station as I did not have enough money in my bank (despite checking the night before that I did have more than enough) as a few direct debits went out that I was unaware of. Now I've had some money cleared I went to pay them today but they said it was passed on to a debt collection agency (something they never told me when I tried to pay the first time) as a week had passed (something they also conveniently never told me) and the DCA would put 1 £50 charge on it. I have complained to Sainsbury's customer service about this as the staff in the petrol station were also extremely rude and unprofessional. I'm really stressed now as I can not afford and am in urgent need of help as I suffer mental health issues.

Has anyone experienced blatant overcharging or been subjected to a [problem] at a UK petrol station? I used the Shell garage at Westerhailes in Edinburgh as the needle on my fuel indicator was touching zero. On fuelling, there was no noise coming from the pump and there was no sensation of fuel running through the hose and into my car as there usually is. I stopped refuelling the car, concerned that the cost was increasing but I was receiving no fuel. This was also evidenced by the fact that the indicator needle had not moved at all when I turned the ignition on. The staff advised I still had to pay and they provided me with an e-mail address to contact Shell customer services with. I did this and after carrying out "checks" I was told the pump was fine and I would not receive a refund. So I have had to pay for petrol I didn't actually receive. Interested to hear of other similar experiences and action taken.

I purchased a mccullouch lawnmower a few weeks ago, but we have tried to find out what we are doing wrong, as the petrol is in it, and the oil, we can't transport it back to the shop. Its the starter cord, we can't get it out of the lawnmower, it only comes so far and then sticks, there is no way that it is coming out. What are my rights, and how can I get it back to the shop? Anyone have difficulties like this?

Hi guys, does anybody know how much it is to have the blade sharpened on petrol lawnmowers? My Oh has just got a Suffolk Punch petrol lawnmower, and absolute bargain too, it has only been used a couple of times, new condition, and even second hand these babies can go for a couple of hundred, they're £600+ to buy, so £55 was an absolute steal! Anyway, it's perfectly fine right now, we were just wondering when we need to have it done how much it would be roughly?

Hi Guys, I am new to this forum room so please bare with me, in February 2013 me and my girlfriend pulled into our local petrol station this petrol station is approx 1 mile from our house, I put £4 0f fuel in the car in order to get us home but that week there had been signs put up around the petrol station stating minimum payment of £10 on a card. we only have £5 in our account at the time and we explained to the assistant behind the counter that we lived down the road we even offered to leave our mobile phone there while we went home to get the cash, the assistant would not let us move of the forecourt not even to park the car down the side of the shop while we walked home, so me and my girlfriend left the car in the forecourt locked it and walked home but before I left I took photos of the car at the pumps. after about 20mins we returned back only to find that the owner of the petrol station had dragged the car across the forecourt with his 4X4, he we very threating towards us so I dialled 999 for police assistance as my car was damaged. the police arrived and said it would have to go through the owners car insurance for the claim as it was his car that caused it. he is now denying he has done anything wrong but he wont provide my insurance company with the CCTV, I have the photos of the car at the pumps and the car after he had caused the damage my insurance company had written the car off as there was damage to the chassis. my insurance company don't seem to care anymore I have made over 30 phone calls to them asking for updates and for them to chase it up but they seem to say the same thing we are waiting for the third parties insurance company to reply. now my question is can I sue the owner of the petrol station and if so what can I sue him for can I sue him for all my costs and expenses and the fact I was with out a car for 3 months and we have no public transport nearby and we live in a rural area, is there anything I can do with my insurance company as this is what I pay my insurance for in order for them to sort thing like this out. I did a really stupid thing today, i put petrol by mistake in a diesel car hired from enterprise. I was surprised after filling up i continued to drive for 70 miles, pulled over for a coffee and the car failed to start after i had finished AA towed me to a local ford garage where they took the car, i was taken to the nearest enterprise and given another vehicle. I realize petrol in diesel is not to bad compared to diesel in petrol. No doubt all that the ford main dealer will do is just pump out the fuel and replace with diesel Anybody got any idea on what this is going to cost me, An hours labour at least and a gallon of fuel no doubt

Hi.. To make a long story short. Card was PIN blocked. I was away from home for a few weeks. Signed form at station. Didn't make deadline and now I have a civil recovery letter. From past experience I am aware that these bullies are best ignored. Should I ignore them on this too?

My husband was recently using a diesel pump at a petrol station on his way to work as a taxi driver when it splashed back and covered him almost from head to toe in diesel. He reported this to the cashier who said he would close the pump and advised my husband to write to head office. My husband set out his claim in a letter, including ruined clothing and loss of earnings. The reply from the claims handling agent states after their enquiries they have found no evidence that any loss suffered by my husband has arisen due to any negligence or failing by the petrol station. Any suggestions what to do next? This was definitely a faulty pump but how can he prove this?

This may seem daft, but how much would I be charged if I decided to buy EXACTLY 1 litre of petrol if the price displayed is 129.9p per litre? My point is why the 0.9p? They used to charge 1/2p years ago but the difference is there actually was a 1/2p coin then. When did it become 0.9p and WHY????? Yes, a bit of a rant but I am curious to know why they are allowed to display an amount it is impossible to actually pay. I cannot ever pay 0.9p so why charge it? Would I be expected to swallow the loss and pay 130p? Would they let me off the 0.9p and charge me 129p? If so, i could fill my car at 1 litre increments and save 0.9p every single litre! So, anyone?
