  1. I received this text today: Please call CRS on.... Between 9 and 5 pm we sent. Letter a week ago and need to discuss this with you. Thank you. At first I thought it was a spam text until I put the text into Google and found out it is exercise for less/harlands. I cancelled my gym membership in April. I asked a staff member in the gym how to cancel and was told to 'just cancel the direct debit' so that is what I did. I have not received any letters from Harlands this is the first I have heard from any sort of debt collection agency. I was also told when I joined the gym that there was no cancellation penalty. What shall I do? I'm worried that this is going to go further and effect my credit rating. I was going to contact the gym I signed up in but saw that other people getting advice on here were told not to. Any advice would be appreciated!
  2. Hello Caggers, Hope I am posting in the right area - I would appreciate some advice please on text messages I am receiving from NatWest regarding 'getting their mobile App'. We are at a slatemate as I perceive them to be marketing texts, which I am opted out of, but NatWest are insistent that these are service texts and is a communication which can be relevant to the maintenance of my account. I would like some advice as to whether I should be persuing this further and if so, how. I'll give you the back story, apologies if this is lengthy: In November 2016, after finally having had enough of the numerous text messages I was receiving from NatWest, I made a formal complaint and asked for the messages to stop. In December 2016, NatWest sent their response saying that they did not uphold my complaint as I had been opted out of marketing information on all platforms since 2011 and that these messages were service texts which I agreed to receive as per their terms and conditions. Whilst I was prepared to concede that messages informing me of how much I could put into my ISA account would be "relevant to the operation and maintenance of my account", I did not feel that text messages asking me to sign up to a Rewards account for a monthly fee, engaging in Twitter discussions and messages encouraging me to download their App (complete with web link) were relevant and sought assistance from the Financial Ombudsman. In February 2017, the Financial Ombudsman upheld my complaint, stating that some of the messages would be deemed marketing texts, albeit they did not specify which messages they were or how many. NatWest agreed and I was offered a small amount of compensation. Though I was not entirely happy that they could not guarantee I would not receive any more text messages, I accepted the findings and offered that my mobile number should be removed from their databases should I not be happy going forwards. This resolution was agreed by all parties. Since then, I have had monthly text messages from NatWest relating to new/improved features on their mobile App, all ending in "Get yours today at natwest.com/gettheapp". I am quite 'old school' and don't need the App in order to do my banking and felt that these would still come under marketing texts. Last month, I sent a letter to NatWest's complaint department, asking them to invoke the agreement to remove my mobile number from their databases, explaining why. Today, I have received a final response from NatWest. They have agreed to remove my mobile number from their databases, but do not uphold my overall complaint as "the texts to which you refer to are service texts in that they are advising you of a service we provide that you could benefit from." This statement, to me, is contradictory as the whole point of marketing information is to advise people of a service that they could benefit from. Service information should be updates or changes to services they already use. The clause in the terms and conditions that NatWest refer to is as follows: 1.9 Communications about your account 1.9.1 We will contact you with information relevant to the operation and maintenance of your account by a variety of means including via online banking, mobile banking, email, text message, post and/or telephone. If at any point in the future you change your contact details you should tell us promptly about those changes. I see nothing in the above about what would be deemed as "relevant to the operation and maintenance to my account." By NatWest's own admission when the case went to the FOS that some of the text messages I was being sent would be deemed marketing, it would appear that there is a fine line between what is deemed marketing and what is deemed a service text. I would love to take this up further, even if it was just to get some clarification as to whether this was an acceptable type of service text, but would like some thoughts as to whether I would have a case and how to go about it. It seems such a shame that I have to put myself at risk of fraud as NatWest will no longer be able to reach me promptly, but this appears to be the only way I can stop the text messages. Look forward to hearing from some of you in due course, GS.
  3. Hello, I want to post a message my landlord left on my answerphone on a blog that im doing about them. Is this ok to do ? Is it legal ? Ive searched online and can only find answers that apply to the USA and even then its not an easy answer to find , some say its ok , some say beware etc. I think the message left now belongs to me , is that correct ? If so then it should be ok to post it ? Thanks for any help. David
  4. Hi all, I have recently been receiving a few texts from Vanquis with the following text body:- Unsurprisingly I have no idea how my number was obtained by this company or whoever sends texts on their behalf. My problem with this is that I was charged by the 60070 number for opting out of these annoying and unwanted texts. There was no prior indication that I would be charged and I think that is pretty misleading and outrageous - I was given a generic system warning by my android phone and that's it. I'm not exactly sure how I would like to proceed with following up why I was charged but I think I should - Where do I 'stand' with this situation? Thank you in advance.
  5. Hello. I have been working in company for 4.5 years. All that time I was working threw the agency and I get a contract 1st of January this year. 22nd of september I decided to quit because of personal circumstances. I wasn't happy about my life. I text my manager, I have informed him that I quit. I wrote that it was nice to work with him, but it's time to move on for me and that I'm sorry if that will cause any problems. And I have switched off my phone, I didn't wanted to talk with anyone. After that I get a lot of messages from him, he wrote that I must explane why did I quit. I didn't replyed, because I think that I don't have to explane my personal problems. After few days he texted me again, he wrote that someone is pregnant from me at my workplace... I have ignored that message. Yesterday 2nd of october I get another 2 messages from him and they were even worse than previuos. He wrote : '' U little piece of sh**.. I know where u live.. I still need to know why you left... so I will be coming.." 2nd message "You haven't balls and guts too reply, you 50kg boy" I'm trying to change my life, trying to quit smoking, I have started running in the mornings, but after messages like that I feel uncomfortable and a bit stressed. Didn't wanted to take any actions against him, but I'm not sure how far this can go. What should I do?
  6. Finally got sick of the "best day to pay" messages sent the "stop" message which is given in the text message. This was done last weekend today, low and behold, another message comes through! I will be making a formal complaint to the Information Commissioners Office regarding the fact they have breached the request to stop messages. I've attached the screenshots of the stop request and message received in breach of the request. Will be interesting to see what Brighthouse say about this as it's a complaint they won't be able to handle, only respond to as the ICO will be involved. Brighthouse reps ... attempt to defend this breach!
  7. ...Are they legit or has someone got access to private information and is using it? I did have a text when I applied for JSA but I have been on ESA a few weeks now and never got anything until a few minutes ago which is strange unless the system had a fault and the message was delayed. It basically said: "Your ESA has been awarded. We will confirm this by letter. We need fit notes/medical certificates in order to pay you"
  8. Hi, I've joined this forum to try to get some help for my husband's elderly parents, who have been receiving frequent messages from these people, and are causing a great deal of distress. They have been hounded by nuisance calls generally, which lead to them reporting it to the police a few months ago, and getting their phone number changed. My MIL almost fell foul of a 'Microsoft' fix-your-computer [problem] call, which we think might have got them put on a sucker list. Anyway, they have a new number, and have gone ex-directory, but have since started getting calls from MMF that are recorded messages, threatening to visit them if they do not contact them about a 'matter'. My in-laws do not, and have never had any sort of debt - they pay cash and don't even have a bank card or use cash machines. They recently purchased a BT call blocker phone, but it doesn't stop these people, and they seem to be calling from a different number each time, so it feels like £50 down the drain, plus my in-laws now feel that there is no way of escaping from these people. I have found the website and an address, and would like to send them a letter telling them to stop, but don't want to give my in-laws details, as they don't appear to hold any information other than the phone number. Also, whilst I am going to write on their behalf, I don't really want to give them my details either. I have made a complaint to the ICO via their website today, but would really appreciate some advice on how we can make these people go away. The distress they are causing is really severe and I need to try and stop this now. Please help!
  9. Hi I have been getting messages from quidmarket on my answering machine (there is 5 of us in our house), saying it is such and such from their legal team and if I dont contact them before 5pm tomorrow they are going to file a CCJ against me, TBH I dont really care what they do to me but other people are listening to these messages, is there anything I can do about it
  10. If you dial 141 before the normal number, your number is withheld from the person called. But if you try this with a text message, it does not work. Does anyone know why? How do I withhold my number on text messages?
  11. Hi everyone, i had a loan with cfo some time ago and they took full payment for this loan aswell as taking additional money from my account forcing me to change banks. I have proof that they have had payment from me but im still receiving calls and texts. so today i received a text saying the following. "as you have failed to arrange a payment with CFO, all your numbers have been uploaded to be called continuously" Are they allowed to do this. I would class this as intimidation.
  12. Have been with Asda Mobile since 2009 with no problems. Just over two weeks ago I started receiving text messages from Asda Mobile regarding set up details for Internet and picture messaging. Over the past few days I have had over forty messages. It makes no difference if I accept the settings or not. I have contacted their customer services.... nine people in all. Some advisors have confirmed the sending of set up texts has been disabled.... no effect they still keep on coming. Other advisors have said they cannot stop the text messages and claimed I have a fault with my sim card. Another sim card tried, again still the same problem. I was then asked to reset my phone with no effect. Next they said my phone was faulty and I should return to my supplier. I tried another mobile phone with my sim card and once again the texts are still arriving. I believe the problem is caused by changes Asda Mobile(Vodaphone) have made to their system in the past few weeks. This is causing the setup text messages to be sent out when my phone logs onto their network. My phone connects to my car phone system using Bluetooth rSAP, when I leave my car the Asda network seems to regard my mobile as a new phone logging onto their network and it sends out between two and six text messages each time. Anyone else had the same problem ? BDI BDI
  13. I've been going through the DCA's as they have popped up and with CCA requests etc they have pretty much all given up. A while ago I dumped our land line number when we swapped from BT to Virgin and did the same with the mobile so it's been peaceful! Just keeping an eye on my credit file (via deal from bank with travel/mobile insurance for a good price BTW) and it's just a case of watching them drop into the SB abyss over the next few months, lord know I tried to get this sorted with the original creditors but that was like pushing water uphill so I have no issues with the situation. However on a pretty new mobile number (couple of years old) I just got a txt from Debt Managment Ltd, I'm not going to call just wondered if they are chasing and got my number or are they just one of the PPI ambulance chasers?
