  1. I received this text today: Please call CRS on.... Between 9 and 5 pm we sent. Letter a week ago and need to discuss this with you. Thank you. At first I thought it was a spam text until I put the text into Google and found out it is exercise for less/harlands. I cancelled my gym membership in April. I asked a staff member in the gym how to cancel and was told to 'just cancel the direct debit' so that is what I did. I have not received any letters from Harlands this is the first I have heard from any sort of debt collection agency. I was als
  2. Hello Caggers, Hope I am posting in the right area - I would appreciate some advice please on text messages I am receiving from NatWest regarding 'getting their mobile App'. We are at a slatemate as I perceive them to be marketing texts, which I am opted out of, but NatWest are insistent that these are service texts and is a communication which can be relevant to the maintenance of my account. I would like some advice as to whether I should be persuing this further and if so, how. I'll give you the back story, apologies if this is lengthy: In November 2016,
  3. Hello, I want to post a message my landlord left on my answerphone on a blog that im doing about them. Is this ok to do ? Is it legal ? Ive searched online and can only find answers that apply to the USA and even then its not an easy answer to find , some say its ok , some say beware etc. I think the message left now belongs to me , is that correct ? If so then it should be ok to post it ? Thanks for any help. David
  4. Employers can read workers' private messages sent via chat software and webmail accounts during working hours, judges have ruled. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) said a firm that read a worker's Yahoo Messenger chats sent while he was at work was within its rights. Judges said he had breached the company's rules and that his employer had a right to check on his activities. Such policies must also protect workers against unfettered snooping, they said. The judges, sitting in the ECHR in Strasbourg, handed down their decision on Tuesday. Countries that have ratified th
  5. Hi all, I have recently been receiving a few texts from Vanquis with the following text body:- Unsurprisingly I have no idea how my number was obtained by this company or whoever sends texts on their behalf. My problem with this is that I was charged by the 60070 number for opting out of these annoying and unwanted texts. There was no prior indication that I would be charged and I think that is pretty misleading and outrageous - I was given a generic system warning by my android phone and that's it. I'm not exactly sure how I would like to proceed with following up why I
  6. Hello. I have been working in company for 4.5 years. All that time I was working threw the agency and I get a contract 1st of January this year. 22nd of september I decided to quit because of personal circumstances. I wasn't happy about my life. I text my manager, I have informed him that I quit. I wrote that it was nice to work with him, but it's time to move on for me and that I'm sorry if that will cause any problems. And I have switched off my phone, I didn't wanted to talk with anyone. After that I get a lot of messages from him, he wrote that I mu
  7. Finally got sick of the "best day to pay" messages sent the "stop" message which is given in the text message. This was done last weekend today, low and behold, another message comes through! I will be making a formal complaint to the Information Commissioners Office regarding the fact they have breached the request to stop messages. I've attached the screenshots of the stop request and message received in breach of the request. Will be interesting to see what Brighthouse say about this as it's a complaint they won't be able to handle, only respond to
  8. ...Are they legit or has someone got access to private information and is using it? I did have a text when I applied for JSA but I have been on ESA a few weeks now and never got anything until a few minutes ago which is strange unless the system had a fault and the message was delayed. It basically said: "Your ESA has been awarded. We will confirm this by letter. We need fit notes/medical certificates in order to pay you"
  9. Hi, I've joined this forum to try to get some help for my husband's elderly parents, who have been receiving frequent messages from these people, and are causing a great deal of distress. They have been hounded by nuisance calls generally, which lead to them reporting it to the police a few months ago, and getting their phone number changed. My MIL almost fell foul of a 'Microsoft' fix-your-computer [problem] call, which we think might have got them put on a sucker list. Anyway, they have a new number, and have gone ex-directory, but have since started getting calls from MMF tha
  10. Hi I have been getting messages from quidmarket on my answering machine (there is 5 of us in our house), saying it is such and such from their legal team and if I dont contact them before 5pm tomorrow they are going to file a CCJ against me, TBH I dont really care what they do to me but other people are listening to these messages, is there anything I can do about it
  11. If you dial 141 before the normal number, your number is withheld from the person called. But if you try this with a text message, it does not work. Does anyone know why? How do I withhold my number on text messages?
  12. Hi everyone, i had a loan with cfo some time ago and they took full payment for this loan aswell as taking additional money from my account forcing me to change banks. I have proof that they have had payment from me but im still receiving calls and texts. so today i received a text saying the following. "as you have failed to arrange a payment with CFO, all your numbers have been uploaded to be called continuously" Are they allowed to do this. I would class this as intimidation.
  13. Have been with Asda Mobile since 2009 with no problems. Just over two weeks ago I started receiving text messages from Asda Mobile regarding set up details for Internet and picture messaging. Over the past few days I have had over forty messages. It makes no difference if I accept the settings or not. I have contacted their customer services.... nine people in all. Some advisors have confirmed the sending of set up texts has been disabled.... no effect they still keep on coming. Other advisors have said they cannot stop the text messages and claimed I have a fault with my sim car
  14. Wonga makes 'unreserved' apology after Guardian investigation found an employee of the firm attacked the MP over her anti-payday lender stance. Online lender Wonga has apologised to MP and anti-payday loans campaigner Stella Creasy after a Guardian investigation uncovered evidence an employee of the firm has been using an anonymous Twitter account to publicly attack her, calling her mentally unstable. The investigation found that at least one Wonga employee had been using so-called "sock puppet" accounts to attack critics of the firm and post favourable comments underneath articles about
  15. The Information Commission is trying to bring an end to the modern plague of unwanted messages * ICO wants victims to contact them so they can fine those responsible for the stream of calls http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2211214/Is-end-unwanted-texts-PPI-firms-Two-men-face-250-000-fine-sending-millions-messages.html
  16. I've been going through the DCA's as they have popped up and with CCA requests etc they have pretty much all given up. A while ago I dumped our land line number when we swapped from BT to Virgin and did the same with the mobile so it's been peaceful! Just keeping an eye on my credit file (via deal from bank with travel/mobile insurance for a good price BTW) and it's just a case of watching them drop into the SB abyss over the next few months, lord know I tried to get this sorted with the original creditors but that was like pushing water uphill so I have no issues
  17. Statement: 2 July 2012 The ICO now has the power to issue a monetary penalty for serious breaches of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. The powers allow us to issue the worst offenders with a monetary penalty of up to £500,000. The ICO currently has a team dedicated to enforcing these Regulations and is actively pursuing specific cases. So far around 12,000 individuals have responded and the ICO is using this information to trace the companies responsible for
