  3. Consumers will be given the power to request the data held on them by credit card and energy companies under new measures. Following a consultation, the government is expected to announce today (19 November) that it will look to legislate if firms fail to comply with the voluntary release of consumers’ electronic data. As part of the ‘midata’ programme, companies will be required to release the data they hold relating to a customer’s consumption or transactions in an electronic machine readable format on request.
