  1. Hi folks, Yes bizarre, yet. I saw a job ad saying company is looking for a hospitality staff. Female preferred. I have all the experience they want and reference. No reply what so ever. The ad was posted on a website where companies people don't have to auth themselves. I did send my CV and cover letter to their official email as per their website. No reply. If it was someone prank they would of replied by now? I am thinking to bring this case to an employment tribunal. Copy of the ad exist in Google cache and some online archive sites. They also posted similar ad on another employment website. What do you think?
  2. A lot is being made about a golf club only allowing men as members. Is this such a great issue or should we been concerned about a bigger picture ?..
  3. Does this sound right, where do i stand. I saw a job advert going for 'self employed cleaners required, must drive and have own transport and have some experience' I meet all of the above criteria, was speaking to employer (or not as would be self employed), getting on fine, then was rejected just because i am a man. Sexist springs to mind Is their anything i can do or just accept it, i have it in writing that i was refused just because i am a man.
  4. A friend just sent me this A friend just sent me this A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. 'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la Casa.' 'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.' A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?' Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation. The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic; 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and 4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your salary on accessories for it. (THIS GETS BETTER!) The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because: 1.. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on; 2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves; 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and 4.. As soon as you commit to one, you realise that if you had waited a little longer, you could have got a better model. The women won.
