  1. Hi all i wonder if anyone can give me come advice pleasE?? the problem is today out of the blue 25/5/2013 i get a text reading this:- PLEASE CONTACT MACKENZIE HALL ON 01563 503822 AND A REFERENCE NUMBER! M2XXXXXX SO i thought omg what's this so i rang them... they said who are we talking to please i say my name but its my married name they say ok where do you live so i didn't walk to tell them they said you used to live in a flat please confirm address well last time i lived in a flat was before 2007 so a while ago so i thought must be an old debt or something how strange! so they said what's your birthday so i told them and they said also no the name on this account is xxXXx which is my maiden name and blah blah blah date of birth well the date of birth wasn't mine! so i told them no this isn't my date of birth but is my maiden name so they said right we need to go away and research this and ask if this is really the date of birth for the company we are collecting for and they couldn't tell me anything else that was the end of the call... WELL of coarse now im worried as its must be a debt i forgot or something in which no way am i saying i have no right not to pay this as this is obviously my responsibility but i am very confused about how they got my new mobile number WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR 6 MONTHS for a start as its in my new married name i got married 5 years ago but when rang they only know my maiden name and no other details and the wrong birth date. any advise or any other info would be great and appreciated please?

  3. Hi, I am new to this forum and have already researched for some answers although my case might be a bit different. I had a debt with a bank in 2003. Since then, I have received letters from Capquest chasing the payment. I didn't know much about those debt collector companies and was scared that something would happen to me, i.e. legal actions, etc so I decided to repay the debt without much explanation in how Capquest had my debt in first place. The total amount, if i recall well, was £1000 but the letter was asking for £1200 which I assumed some interest had been added. I started paying it off and managed to pay back £600 throughout 2005-2008 but stopped because i didn't have a stable job. In 2009, i received a letter from capquest saying they were offering me 50%off the total amount of £850 which I agreed as long as i could pay in 2 installments of £200 and £250. they agreed but i only managed to pay the first one as again, i had lost my job and couldn't afford the second installment. Last month, i received a letter from MH stating they were chasing the money on behalf of capquest and i should pay £650. i replied saying i had an agreement with capquest and although the agreement was from 2009, i have never received a letter from them confirming they had sold my account to MH but would be willing to repay the final installment. they replied saying the offer was date barred. Last week, i have received a letter from Meritforce saying i should get in contact with MH to arrange the payment of £650 otherwise they may send a debt collector to my house. What should I do now? I am aware that I was naive in making agreements with a company without asking for details of this debt in first place, but believe me, I scared to death and wanted to repay anyway. Please, can anyone help me? do they have the right to send someone to my door? can i impose the £250 as final payment? Thank you so much for your help in advance.
