  1. Hi all, your advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Essentially I was sitting in my car in a private car park talking to a colleague on the telephone. An council environmental enforcement officer approached my window and accused me of littering and stated that he was going to issue me with a fixed penalty notice. Confused I asked what I was supposed to have done and he answered that I threw a cigarette out the window to the floor. I don't even smoke! I tried to discuss the matter calmly but the officer would not reason with me. I explained that I didn't smoke and that he must be mistaken. I was rudely told that 'he had seen it with his own eyes' and 'would not be worth his time making things up'....which he clearly was!! I then asked him if he had any physical or video based evidence to back his claims to which he replied he didn't. He then went on to explain that a letter would be sent in the post and that I would have 14 days to pay. Is there any course of redress here as I think this is very unfair. Regards, DD
  2. Hi people Is it legal to fine someone under 18 for littering . It seems that Enfield is targeting the colleges . Is it possible to get the fine reduced for students if you go to court as £80 is a lot for a student to find for throwing a fag butt on the floor I know that you don't give your name to these people but they act very official and con people into giving details !
  3. I came across this having seen it on the BBC Breakfast news. I've just moved into a place where it seems passing cars, especially in the evenings, think that passing Burger wrappings out of the window and cans or anything else they don't want to take home is acceptable. It's not. I spent 30 yrs+ on a private estate where this kind of thing didn't happen, we certainly didn't wake up in the mornings to find a heap of old car parts or tyres left or building rubble fly-tipped. We do here and it's disgraceful. What is it that makes it acceptable to dump rubbish on someone else's space? These guys seem hell bent on making sure it doesn't go on - let's help them. http://www.cleanupbritain.org/ We all need to educate our children that spitting on the street where others walk, dropping chewing-gum on the floors which we all walk on, dog fouling (don't get me going!) and throwing wrappers, fag packets or anything else onto other people's streets is just not acceptable and should be disposed of responsibly. In some countries you'd go to prison for dropping litter, let's help these people help us enjoy our environment. Thanks A1
  4. Whilst working in darlington i recieved a FPN for littering Whilst i did drop a cigarette on the floor, i believe i was on private property whilst doing it. I have 2 days to appeal it, otherwise it goes up by £25 Now looking at the letter, they have spelt my surname incorrectly. Does this give me more grounds to appeal? Thanks
  5. Fed up with littering and with politicians and statutory bodies who seem incapable of doing anything about it? If so it's time for you to sign up to Zilch.org.uk - the people-powered initiative that's going to bring about the social unacceptability of littering. Zilch is a technology enabled network of individuals in the UK working to eliminate littering and is currently in an embryonic form but has big plans and is growing rapidly. Its emphasis is on things that you can do and action you can take to help make this happen. The more of us who come on board, the greater our credibility and clout. Tell someone about us today. And if you want to get involved or help fund the endeavour, just say so when you sign up. My contact details are on the temporary home page if you have any questions or just want to find out more.
