  2. How populist are you https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2018/nov/21/how-populist-are-you-quiz I've done it. Results as I expected although a few mates think I cheated. I didn't - I think thats more a comment on their perception of their politics. (They think they are centrist - THEY aren't.)
  3. 2 weeks ago today I purchased from a dealer a Vauxhall zafira 2003 MOTd till March I was told it had only just undergone a service and was fine for driving In urgent need, I paid £675 and they delivered it when it was ready, Being a dealer I trusted them totally, they had nothing but good feedback Bare in mind also I am a new driver and unsure what to look for in cars ie faults and things, but she test drove perfectly. A few days later going down hill, with 4 children in the car My brakes failed, managed to get to a garage safely and quickly and paid for them to be sorted, considering the trader had claimed a new brake cylinder had been put it in, I was annoyed. Then a engine management light popped up, I mailed trader and she said Lamba sensors are damp, it will be fine, the car had little to no power and was struggling on hills in 2nd, and I could drive it with the handbrake on, also when handbrake was off you could flick it and it would say it was on!! so I asked my brother who builds bikes to have a look He found a split Tyre, battery tray was broken, one of the pipes that should blow hot air into the car was loose, Underpowered was because it was running at half power and the light coming on was the catalytic converter, The battery tray alone is apparently a instant MOT failure. I called the trader and she booked it into the garage to be looked at, garage spotted everything my brother had and rebooked for it to come back in, I went back a few days later and the garage did what only the trader told them to do. despite the garage saying the cat needed replacing the trader wanted it sprayed and apparently that would fix it. 6 hours later (yesterday) I was on my way home tired, and cold and wet and hungry ( 6 hours in the pouring rain in middle of no where is no fun!) This morning, engine management light came back on and this evening the clutch failed on the middle of a roundabout!! I managed to get it to the side of the road and called green flag who towed me home Now I spoke to the trader yet again and shes saying its driver error that broke the clutch, I made up about the hand brake and that there was nothing wrong with it and that she will look into getting the clutch repaired cheap as poss but If I sold it off as said I will, then I am going to be out of pocket because of how much the clutch is going to cost! I have asked her to refund me as she has sold me a car that wasn't fit for the road but she said I am wrong, there is nothing wrong with the car and I can go to trading standards but she will be in the right and I don't have a leg to stand on! Do I have any rights here or have I screwed up?

  5. Yesterday in the House of Commons, Sir Greg Knight's Private Members Bill entitled: Parking (Code of Practice) Bill received its 2nd reading. The support that he received was overwhelming (and thoroughly deserved) and the Bill now passes to the Committee stage. Rougue private parking operators have cause for concern. Yesterdays debate is worthy of reading: https://www.theyworkforyou.com/debat...ailiff#g1160.0
  6. Hi there, I received a county court claim form with the date of service 19th june with no particulars of claim attached. I filed my AoS and i have been waiting for the PoC but they still haven't been filed . My defence date is tomorrow (17/07/18) so im really at a bind as what is required of me. I'm thinking i have to send in a defence but i'm not sure what to write the defence against as im sure its defending the points set out in the PoC. Its briefly outlined in the "Brief details of claim" on the front of the form but besides that...nothing. Should i write my defence up to defend against the brief details of claim? Really appreciate any help you can give me! Thank you
  7. I agreed to a Tomlin order back in 2012 with an agreed payment of £50 per month. My solicitor recommended we agree, having nuked a couple of other credit card debts for me. One of the terms was a voluntary charging order which never happened, I sold the house in 2015, never even considering the Tomlin Order. I have been paying the £50 pm since inception(2012) and not heard a peep from anyone until this week when RobWay, the DCA have been texting me to call them. Is there anything they can do, given I am in rented housing, to vary the Tomlin order? It does say subject to 6 monthly reviews which have never happened. I haven't replied to them and clearly writing to me at my old address won't get a response. I'm living a hassle free life now, rebuilt my credit rating etc but don't want to get a CCJ as I would lose my job!

  15. Yesterday, I got a phone call from the ATOS assessment center in Weston S Mare, both on my landline and my mobile number, as I was attending a hospital appointment my son answered the home phone and the lady refused to identify herself or leave a message. When they called the mobile number the caller display showed it to be Adams Childrens Ware (a clothing shop now long gone), I was a little creeped out when I phoned the number only to find that it was ATOS calling to confirm that I would be attending my interrogation on Monday. Is it me or am I being paranoid that they are trying to trick people into not responding to calls by using a false caller ID?

  17. I hope someone can help with the below. This is all new to me and it's making me very stressed! I was involved in an accident a month ago. This is my version of events. I drove down a slip road then joined a dual carriageway. Shortly after this I overtook the car in front. I checked mirrors and it was safe to change lanes. As I was moving into the lane I felt a collision take place. Looked in my rear view mirror and saw a car behind me. They have damage to their front passenger side wing (small car). I had a scuff on my rear driver side alloy (I have a 4x4) but no actual damage to my car so will not be claiming. In my opinion they were not in the lane when I started the manoeuvre. I have said I assume they were in the same lane as me but then we both moved to overtake at the same time. The driver of the other car was very young with a brand new car. For him to come out of knowhere I think speed was a part of it but insurance said they are not interested in that. Initially I was told any claim would be a split claim. Now I have been told the other party have said it was all my fault, I drove into their lane etc. My insurance company are saying that it will go as 100% my fault as its up to me to make sure it's safe to pull out (I did the lane was clear!) and the other person was more established in the lane based on their version of events. There are no witnesses or cameras. I have said I do not accept 100% that it was my fault. I've been driving for 18 years and I guess I'm lucky this was my first accident and lucky my kids were not in the car. Also a lesson learned is to to have my dashcam turned on as I had unplugged it! I just want to know what happens now? Do I have to accept this? How does it affect my renewal (due soon!) if a claim is 100% my fault or say 50% my fault? Thanks for any advice in advance.
  18. The weather and how it affects us here in Great Britain. I must admit having worked in construction and now roaming the beaches each day collecting driftwood i tend to keep one eye on the weather forecasts and one eye on the stormy seas and the other eye on what i am collecting. This winter the Atlantic has in my mind spoilt the fun for those of us who could be called coldies. Snow has been forecast week after week only to be blasted out of the way by the jet stream and its warmer air. However for the first time this winter models are suggesting and seemingly agreeing at the moment for a dumping of snow for many places even the South towards next weekend. Could change but the first time things seem to point this way. Well i will leave that bit now, forecasting has been very tricky this winter, a few degrees out and everything goes pear shaped. And has.And makes you look stupid when you warn all the neighbours get your sledge out, best bearskin coat and huskies ready for action.Only to find you need your boat instead. Or tea shirts and shorts and barbeque as it is balmy. Now when i was a kid winters were winters, icicles hanging from the gutters of the house, sometimes a foot long or more.About 30 centimetres for you youngsters out there. You went out of the house very carefully, tending not to slam doors. In case a avalanche of snow landed on your head sliding of the roof. or worse.Snow lay for weeks, and this was on low ground not elevation. Frost on the ground and in my house on the inside of the windows never mind outside. Used to write names and draw on it first thing in the morning. As you breathed out the breath used to freeze as you exhaled landing on the floor with a tinkle as it broke into pieces. Enough of that, why have i written this.Well i am sure some of you are coldies, looking out sometimes when it snows, Perhaps watching the lamp post light to see the snow drifting by. Enjoying the countryside and towns when things are suddenly transformed into a winter wonderland. Have you ever been caught out by the weather as i did late Autumn. On the Shoreline, nice enough ,all of a sudden no place to hide, spotted the sky darkening.wind got up and hailstorm from hell arrived, all in minutes. Horizontal wind and ice pellets that stung worse than the pea shooter my brother used to fire at me when a kid. Have you ever been caught in a weather event ,perhaps the thunderstorm, lightning from hell, a blizzard, seen a unusual event. Are you a coldy hoping for some snow before winter fades away.Or looking forward to the first real warm day of spring soon. Next weekend perhaps.

  21. Hello everyone, I would like to ask, all you out there, who are claiming back PPI on the grounds of miss-selling, this question. Did this premium(PPI) just appear on your statements, maybe it did, maybe it didn't. This story is for those of you who's PPI just one day suddenly appear on your statements, without having spoken to any one from the bank or credit card company about wanting PPI on the account. My story goes like this, long before PPI became generally known for what it's worth, back in 2007 i complained about my PPI on my credit card concerning the previous years. The company at the time(LV), investigated, found in my favour and paid me out in full and final settlement, a happy ending. The PPI was cancelled and REMOVED from the account. Like everything nowadays, my credit card was later taken over(GOLDFISH), Goldfish without any authority from me added PPI for a second time after i had cancelled my first PPI, this time without seeking any consent from me. In the meantime, Barclaycard took over my credit card. Now here's where it gets technical, because of who i am(cannot disclose my previous or present employer), i knew straight away that this was fraud, theft to be honest, my complaint to the bank was that payments of an unlawful nature had been taken from my service account. It's straight forward, because i had already cancelled and received a payout on the PPi, I noticed these deductions being made under the disguise of PPI, i knew straight away that something unlawful had happened. In conversation with a bank employer, they admitted that Goldfish was renowned for attaching PPI without permission. However the complication for me is that Barclaycard can not comprehend what i am telling them, for so many years they are under the impression or should i say, they like to think, they are dealing with a miss-selling complaint. This is not the case with me. I just wonder how many people are out there who could swear on oath, that they too never requested PPI yet PPI is on their statements. After all, how can you miss-sell something when you do not speak(write/request) to anybody, isn't that what miss-selling is, advising the customer wrongly(misleading) on the policy. Anyway, let me know, if your one of those customers who didn't speak to anyone about PPI or request it or indeed cancelled a PPI just to have another just pop up.
  22. Step son now staying with us had to have mental health team intervention about 12 weeks ago claims to have had benefit forms filled in by MIND who he was referred to, and which he posted himself, had no acknowledgement of claim or anything from dwp. I unfortunately don't believe him ( I hope im wrong) but going on his past ie. going to job centre and refusing to go on courses hence no JSA. My question basically is do the DWP acknowledge claims and does it normally take this long for a claim to be considered when a "fitness to work" note is provided. Ive read a lot of the posts this am but not been able to find one which covers this guidance and help would be appreciated.

  24. Hi guys, Im hoping someone will be able to help me , 2 issues really, first one is he has no idea what its for and secondly its in the wrong name These are the details One of my friends has received a notice of issue of warrant of control with a total of £172.25 to pay with a further £230 balance outstanding , The notice was issued in in the county court business centre and the creditor is lowells Does that mean its a business debt they are chasing or a personal debt ? he has never had a business and doesnt have any personal debt that hes aware of The is genuinely the first he has heard of any debt, and he doesnt know of any ccj"s , However as well as those issues which he will now have to get to the bottom of, they have used his middle name instead of his first name on the warrant of control , which is very odd, cause surely if there was an old debt he has forgotton about , surely it would be in his original birth name as thats still his official name, He is known to his friends under his middle name as he prefers that name , but on all his official documents ie his passport.licence , bank account etc hes known as his birth name Hes really worried the bailiffs will call and take his belongings before he can get to the bottom of this He doesnt have funds to pay for a set aside, Does he have to fill in form N245 and apply for feee exemption or does he just call lowells and question what its all about and why the name is wrong etc Any help much appreciated
