  1. Hello and greetings to all at CAG, I moved eight doors down the same road (upsizing) and Hastings have upped my annual premium by £131.82. When I queried this I was told that the underwriter (Advantage) take into consideration additional risk factors, such as flood risk, proximity to main roads, crime levels etc, hence the increase. I consider this increase to be out of proportion because there is no difference risk-wise to the part of the road I previously parked in. The only difference is, in fact, one letter at the end of my postcode. I feel I have been stung by some generalised, presumably out-of-thin-air statistic generating at the hands of Advantage/Hastings Direct. My partner's car insurance premium (Aviva) did not increase at all so where does the 'increased risk statistics' come from exactly? I refute the increase entirely and don't see why I should be penalised for moving 62 yards, same side of the road, from xxxx 2AW to xxxx 2AN. I have written several emails to Hastings Direct and have escalated my query to a complaint; which has decidedly fallen of deaf ears because I received the same, generalised reply regarding risk-factors. Short of demanding a Hastings rep come to my road to see there is no difference re: risk between location of house A to location of house B, I've hit a brick wall. If anyone could tell me what else I could try I would be super grateful.
  2. Hello fellow forum members I'm looking for some advise for my sister who has had her insurance renewal come through at a higher than expected price. Upon looking into the renewal, it shows her no claims bonus is at 4 years, not the expected 9years that she should be entitled to. She rang her insurance company today to find out the reasons why this has happened, and they have stated its due to an incident that occurred in 2015. To keep this story shorter, it was a 50/50 clash of mirrors... my sister informed her insurance of the incident (as you should do) and told them that she and the other party would be sorting the issue between themselves, she assumed that was the end of it. So now due to this minor accident, that no one has made a claim on she has lost 5 years of no claims (as she didn't have it protected) due to the fact there "may" be a possible future claim. Does this sound right? It was my understanding that any accident should be reported to your insurance company, but in doing so she is now worse off even though she has gone through the correct channels. Any help or advise would be greatly received. Thank you in advance
  3. Hi all, Recently, my car was hit by a taxi while it was parked and I was asleep. The driver drove off without stopping but fortunately the person who had hired the cab is one of my neighbours, so she is now an independent witness. The incident caused damage to my car for which I have had a repair quote of £509.40 from a garage which I know will do a proper job. Unfortunately, while I think I have a solid case, my car is a fifteen year old Alfa and is not worth much more than the repair quote so I know if I claim through my insurance it will be written off and I will not have enough for the repair after paying the excess and presumably buying back the car for scrap value. The minicab firm will not give me the guy's details, but have passed my number to him and asked him to call me, which he has not. His manager told me that he verbally admitted liability to her. I would like to claim directly from the guy's insurance but I do not know how to find out with whom he is insured. I reported to police at the time as a non-stop RTC and have also complained to the council (today). Any ideas?
  4. I wonder if anyone can help? On the 10th of June I was hit by a driver driving on the wrong side of the road. The accident was 100% the other drivers fault as I was hit head on collision and he was not overtaking any vehicles. I called my Insurer Gladiator insurance who put me through to the claims line that took all details, requested diagrams and took telephone numbers and contacted witnesses at the scene. The accident was deemed a total loss and I was offered £2300 - £350 for my excess. I told them over the phone that I could not accept this as it was a non fault accident and I refused to pay the excess. The insurance was underwritten by Zenith insurance and I was also told to contact them. I tried on 2 occasions but they could not find my details. This has dragged on for about 4 months now. I have called Gladiator on numerous occasions who have told me that the other parties insurer has refused to respond. I told them I wanted to issue court proceedings. Now last week I got a call from Zenith stating that they still havent received the VO5 document of my car to accept the claim. I told them as I didnt accept liability so I did not send it off and was waiting for it to be ruled in my favour first. They then unbelievably told me that case has already been closed and settled at 50/50 liability as there were no witnesses nor did I send any diagrams! I told them that numerous independent witness statements were given to Gladiator (which were checked) Also diagrams and full photographs of the head on collision were given. They told me that gladiator never pass 3rd party details to them and a letter was sent out to me requesting these details. I have never received this letter and they could not supply a tracking number. I said I cannot accept any liability for this incident due to the evidence I have. They said the matter is already closed and there is nothing I can do. They have never ever tried to contact me by phone apart from to discuss the value of the loss I have now stand to lose 4 years no claims. My new van costs £800 more per year to insure and I have to pay £350 excess. Also they refused to refund the remaining amount on the policy as I was only 5 months into the year. So total loss is probably about £2190 for this year and next! Any help would be greatly appreciated
