  1. Hi there New to the forum so please be gentle. Came home today to find two letters for my husband from MKDP for two debts that were sold by HSBC to MKDP on 8th Dec 2011. My husband reckons he hasn't been in contact/made any payments since May 2008. The original debt was for around 2K, the demands are for 4K. Can anybody give me any idea of the best way to deal with this? We really can't afford to pay these back at the moment but I can't stand the thought of someone turning up on the doorstep and harassing us..I'm a bit of a wimp! Any help/advice would be gratefully appreciated. I have been googling like crazy but there is a lot of conflicting information out there.... Thanks in advance
  2. WRT135 - CAG Forum [#9393422] Hopefully this is what you need. Any help greatly appreciated, took out my contract 11 days ago number still not ported. Spoke to Vodafone now 6 or 7 times in that period, everytime they say "wait 24 hours". Finally tonight a guy in porting admitted that they were having technical issues and he couldn't say how long it would be (so I've been lied to for a while!). The next issue is that my 14 day cancellation window is coming up to closing I really need to know what I'm doing - whether the number is going to work ever. I went into store today and the vodafone worker there said "look fella you're being strung along, get out while you can" which I'm happy to do I need to know that I can still take my number (which isn't working) with me to a new provider. Cheers
  3. My father passed away on Tuesday last week and we are totally devastated as you can imagine. Mum is in care as she has althzhiemers. Dad left a will which said that he wished his half of the house to be divided between my brother and I and obviously the half my mother owned would go towards her care under the asset rules. (i believe anything over £14,000 is used to pay for her care) We have since learned that mum and dad owned the house under a joint tennancy which means that dads share of the house doesnt become part of dads estate and passes to my mums sole ownership. The house needs to be sold in order to fund mums care and as her daughter it falls to me to do that however in order to do it i have to apply for a "public guardianship" which means that I have to pay a bond to protect mums finances and this is something like £500 (annually i believe) so in effect the government are wanting me to pay for the right and privialige to sell my parents home and then give them the money! To be honest there was barely enough to pay for the funeral so my brother and i have had to use our savings to do that and at this moment I dont even have £500. So my questions are: 1. what would happen if i just refused to deal with the sale of the house, would someone be appointed by the government to deal with it? 2. If mum was in care due to being sectioned and currently funded under section 117 of the mental health act, does that mean that she will be continued to be funded by the government? I know that this is a sticky one but dont know where to turn, unable to get appt with cab for weeks and really at the end of my tether. Dealing with the grief and organising funeral is bad enough but having all this over my head at the moment is making me ill. i just hope someone on here can help. Thanks Monx
  4. Hey there, I have been on a debt management plan with CCCS for a number of years, paying a total of £48 each month to five different companies with a debt totaling around £15800. I have a mortgage on a house with negative equity, which I can currently renting out as I am living with my girlfriend rent free. She has offered to give me a lump sum of money to clear this debt (she's an absolute belter!!!), however I am a little bit worried about explaining that I am living with her and she has money. My question (number 1) is if I tell them this, is there any way that they can try and get the money from her as we are in cohabitation? (question 2) I spoke to CCCS and told them I was hoping to make a settlement offer and asked their advice for how much I should start at. They told me it should be however much I have and they would not advise on a specific percentage. The problem is that I don't actually have any money and will be relying on my girlfriend, she says she's happy to give me it but I don't want to completely wipe her funds out, after all she has her own bills to pay and children. Can anyone suggest what sort of percentage I should offer? Thanks in advance!
  5. A female CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, every day, for a long, long time. So she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site. She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him for an interview. "Pardon me, sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. What's your name? "Morris Feinberg," he replied. "Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?" "For about 60 years." "60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?" "I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims." "I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop." "I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults and to love their fellow man." "I pray that politicians tell us the truth and put the interests of the people ahead of their own interests.." "How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?" "Like I'm talking to a bleddy brick wall."
  6. hello someone told me that somebody might help me im so streesed out and i feel just awful , i care for someone , a friend he is 37 years old i have known for many years , after he lost his partner 8 years ago he had various mental health issues and an obsession that everyone around him might die would result in endless panic attacks etc , on august the 7th his cousin died and he only has a few people in his life his cousin being one of them .now the way he goes about it is ,pretending that it has not happened i know that is not the way to deal with things but i respect that we are all different so i go along with it and dont mention it ,if someone mentions any death we all know (those around him) that we have to stay with him ,my main concern being hes too unpredictable, well he had a medical and i phoned up the atos healthcare center the day before and was told to leave my phone number and the person i was ringing about and they would ring back when it was less busy , i totally forgot about it and they did not ring back ,well on the day of the mdical i rang my friend up and said that i couldnt take him as my tyre has blown (which was obviously a lie i didnt want to mention the death he was dealing with) my reasons for ringing the medical health center was to explain that taking him to the medical was too risky and if i could re-arrange another appointment in the next 4 weeks and that would give me time to get him an appointment with the DR and get medication to keep him calm etc now he never reads mail but he opened the department of works and pensions letter and filled out some form saying "why did you not attend" and he put the blown tyre etc and his brother mailed it off , well he had a letter back saying that his reason for attending was not good enough and have stopped all his benefits and even his housing benefit and council tax benefits i dont know what to do , i dont want to mention what the real reason for taking him to the medical was because i know he will sink into depression etc so its all my fault that this has happened to him , i cant sleep i feel so guilty all i got going round my head is why didnt the medical center people ring me back or have someone actually answer the phone when you ring He's had an appeal form sent to him and i told him i would take care of it and i dont know what to put
