  2. Hello, I need some urgent advice on what to do about some outstanding debt in Hong Kong. I spent a few years working in Hong Kong. I held and HSBC bank account and managed the account well always in decent credit and paying off my card every month. After 2 years or so I was offered a different role with a new company, the offer was good so I left my employment to go and work with them. In the beginning it was good, I was paid well and everything seemed ok. Then things changed, once I had used my experience to assist in the HK based manufacturer to open new Western accounts they started to turn quite nasty. It was clear to me that this was going on but there was not much I could do. The final straw was a meeting one day where my boss stated he was cutting my salary by nearly half. no discussion, no choice. This was a real problem as i could not afford to continue to work on this salary and pay my way and my attempts at replacing the cut with a commission rate fell on deaf ears. So, they paid me some money (not as much as contracted) and I had to leave. I then got offered a role by another member of the management team to work with a Thai manufacturer, he said he was also unhappy and wanted to try a new venture acting as an agent for this new manufacturer, initially this is based in Hong Kong but would mean moving to Thailand. and in the early stages during set up neither of us would earn a salary,, having no other options I agreed. So, this went on for a while and i lived on my savings. I was expecting and promised a reasonable salary payment for the new business venture but until then I was running out of money and a tax bill was coming. I was dipping into my savings so on the strength of the new job and salary I sent a letter to HSBC for a loan to tide me over and help with paying the tax bill, I sent them a copy of my new contract and the loan was approved. I paid some of the tax but held onto a lot of the money whilst waiting for the salary payments which were now contracted. What transpired next is my so called partner in this new venture mismanaged the whole affair including the set up money (provided by the Thai factory) and effectively ran away from the venture. So now i was getting desperate, I had no income and no chance of this new contract and salary ever materializing. My last option was to go directly to the Thai manufacturer and offer to work with them on a commission base. They agreed so I had to move to Thailand unfortunately leaving the HK debts behind me. Where I am now is I have a home in the UK and I jump backwards and forwards between the UK and Thailand whilst trying to build business, it is time consuming and I essentially have no or very little income at this stage. I have not been in hong kong for over a year now and the debts totaling around 50,000 GDP are still outstanding. I have avoided it because I have been told as i owe tax I will not be permitted to leave HK once I go back. A week or so ago a policeman from HK approached one of my old business colleagues in HK (I once had shares in his company and this was registered in my name but no longer). This has obviously worried me a lot. I have no means to pay this back to them and it is likely I could end up staying permanently back in the UK very soon. If so I have no intentions of returning to the Far East again and my question is can this follow me? Lastly, I will at sometime look to repay the money but right now I just do not have the means, I am barely feeding myself. I need some advise, please help. thanks
