An investigation was underway on Friday night after the personal data of up to 44 million British consumers was feared stolen by hackers in a massive cyber attack. The information commissioner said it was investigating how the hack on Equifax, a US credit rating firm, affected UK customers, many of whom will be unaware their data is held by the company. Equifax and its UK subsidiary companies state on their websites that they represent British clients including BT, Capital One and British Gas. There are fears that customers of these companies could now be affected. BT said that "many companies in the UK" used Equifax services and said that it was "monitoring the situation closely". The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has urged Equifax to alert affected UK customers as soon as possible, and said it will work with the relevant overseas authorities on behalf of British citizens. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/09/08/equifax-hack-britons-data-watchdog-investigates-ukimpact-major/

Yahoo has said more than one billion user accounts may have been affected in a hacking attack dating back to 2013. The internet giant said it appeared separate from a 2014 breach disclosed in September, when Yahoo revealed 500 million accounts had been accessed. Yahoo said names, phone numbers, passwords and email addresses were stolen, but not bank and payment data. You should immediately change your password and security questions and answers. You should do this not just for your Yahoo account but also for any other accounts you have which may have used the same or similar info http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38324527 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38327169

Hi, I purchased a Vtech innotab max for Christmas this year. I purchased it without realising they had a data breach. Due to this breach a majority of the functions on the app don't work as they have taken it offline for security. Now we were told on hheir Fb page to go out and buy an sd card to transfer an update manually. So off I went to buy this card and did exactly as directed, however the tab is still not working! There has been no updates from the company since 24 December and their Custer service line is constantly engaged! My question is where do I stand from a consumer rights point of view? The shop I purchased from has refused refund due to it not technically being faulty and I'm unable to get hold of Vtech. Surely their conduct is wrong isn't it?

People with arthritis have been offered fresh hope after patients were effectively cured using a revolutionary electronic implant. Doctors used tiny pacemaker style devices embedded in the necks of patients with severe rheumatoid arthritis to "hack" into their nervous systems. The implant - whose effects were exclusively demonstrated to Sky News - fires bursts of electrical impulses into a key nerve that relays brain signals to the body's vital organs. http://news.sky.com/story/1396464/nerve-hack-offers-arthritis-sufferers-hope

The UK shoe store Office is advising customers to change their passwords after its website suffered a break-in that compromised customer data. No financial information was stolen in the hack, but customer names, addresses, email addresses, birth dates, birth months (but not year of birth), phone numbers and Office account passwords were stolen. The company has not said whether the information was encrypted or how many customers had been affected. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/may/29/office-shoes-website-hack-passwords-personal-data
