  1. Hello, If like me for your sins you have AVG Anti-Virus installed, AVG have just done a update to AVG 2014. My AVG Gadget on my Windows 7 Sidebar has disappeared (have not checked the Vista Computers or the Windows 8 yet) but AVG have posted in their forums saying the Sidebar Gadget has been discontinued. http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=240145 Stigman
  2. I have a Gaget Insurance Policy for the iPhone in our household - this policy was offered by when taking out my household insurance, I asked at time what did it cover, having two older teens wanted to make sure they were included. Situation - just over a week ago my daughter discovered during the day that her phone was missing, she travels on London transport train and underground, she did the "find my phone" but no response. It is not known whether she was pickpocketed (it was in her side jacket pocket with slanted openings) or whether it was lost, if being the latter she would have heard it drop. I contacted the service provider to cancel the phone and then the next day went to local community police station, two older gentlemen on duty, very helpful though one was showing the other one the ropes, explained about phone and they completed the form, I repeatedly mentioned not known if pick pocketed. Send information to insurance company with proof of purchase, proof of bill, proof of police report and completed form. I called later that evening to ask if I get replacement and they reimburse or do they supply. I was told that my claim had been rejected due to the fact that I am not covered for Accidental Loss, I immediately emailed my response that this was not known whether Loss or Theft but the fact is I have cover for Accidental Loss and Theft. I was told that I do not. I have made a complaint to the insurance broker who are "looking into it", I have again received a letter telling me that my appeal is rejected due to the fact that the phone was lost! and that I do not have cover for this and if I believe I have been misadvised by Paragon then take it up with them. Paragon are looking into it - and in the mean time no phone! My Terms & Conditions clearly state both Accidental Loss and Theft.
  3. I recently took out a new contract with Dialaphone. Checked my bank account and was amazed to see that £20.94 had been debited for 'Gadget Helpline'!! ??? So I decided to contact this 'Gadget Helpline' which I apparently had "signed up" for! Received the WORST EVER customer service from a so-called Helpline Administrator going by the name of "Nadia", (second name not given)! My story is as follows: Email from me to "Nadia" On 8/6/2013 a direct debit was taken by TMTI from my current account. I have no knowledge of ever wanting or hearing about this service and demand a full refund of £20.94 be given to me. I have not had any correspondence from TMTI or given any permission of a Direct Debit to be set-up on my bank account! Please rectify this matter and advise of same. Regards, Response: Thank you for contacting Gadget Helpline. Unfortunately you did not provide any details for us to bring up any account. If you could please provide us your address and postcode or direct debit reference number we can confirm if you have an account with us. Alternatively please call 08444 772 995 (national rate) to speak to an agent. We are open Monday – Friday 9am – 6pm and Saturday 10am – 6pm Regards, Nadia | Gadget Helpline Administrator | TMTI Group | Corsley Heath, Warminster, Wiltshire BA12 7PL (UK) T: +44 (0) 844 499 4744 | F: +44 (0) 844 499 4733 | E: [email protected] My Response: Direct Debit Ref: DL************ I hope this information will help you to solve this matter as I have not received any communication from yourselves and was not aware or authorised this payment of £20.94 to be debited from my account. Regards, Nadia's Reply A welcome letter was sent by email to ***********@**** on 8th May 2013 regarding your account with us. Unfortunately we have no record of any request to cancel your account. In order to fully refund your payment made to TMTI Ltd we would need confirmation that the account was previously cancelled (cancellation email, call reference number etc.). If you can provide us with this confirmation we would be happy to fully reimburse you. I apologise for the inconvenience. Many Thanks My Response: Hi Nadia, I can definitely confirm that I did not receive a 'Welcome Letter' in question on 8th May 2013 and also that the email address you say it was sent to is an incorrect address! Hence, I was unaware of having to pay any payment(s) for an alleged account with 'Gadget Helpline' nor did I enter into any agreement as such! I would appreciate if you could rectify this error and refund immediately the amount of £20.94 which was debited from my account (Direct Debit Ref: DL********).on 8th June 2013. I look forward to hearing from you in response and receiving this payment. Regards, Nadia: Our service is explained in the following places. · The shopping basket (before you agree to the order) · The terms and conditions of the order · The order confirmation that Dialaphone send out to you · The paperwork that is received when the handset is received by Dialaphone · The welcome email we sent you directly from our company. (email addresses are not case sensitive) Regards HOW IGNORANT!!! So, I replied: Nadia, I am writing to advise of my intention to reclaim monies totalling £20.94. According to my Bank Records, the aforementioned sum that was taken out of my account on 8th June 2013, on the pre-text of 'Gadget Helpline' service. This payment is unlawful as they were not agreed to by myself. The disclosure of my bank details to a third party company without my authorisation is unlawful practice, to which I take great exception to. Furthermore, I did not agree nor accept any terms which would have initiated this direct debit process. Having researched this situation in greater detail, it would appear that this is not mentioned during purchasing or on any itemised bills or contracts as it is a 'free trial' which automatically rolls into an unlawful direct debit being setup. As the mobile phone contract was obtained through Dialaphone, the onus of responsibility in law was unlawfully distribution of my account details to the third party 'Gadget Helpline' company. It is my wish that this situation can be resolved amicably, however, as prelude to this not being resolved suitably I have prepared documentation to pass this claim to the Financial Ombudsman Service. I would be grateful for the name and contact details of your superior as I would like to make a personal complaint about your customer services and also your full name. Yours sincerely, Her Response to that was: The postal address can be found below if you wish to make a further complaint. Regards Began to loose my patience here, so responded: I don't think you are hearing me here, I am DEMANDING you give me your full name and superiors name! To which I got: "My name can be found below, and my extension is 424. Our managers name is Jon." Regards Nadia | Gadget Helpline Administrator | TMTI Group | Corsley Heath, Warminster, Wiltshire BA12 7PL (UK) T: +44 (0) 844 499 4744 | F: +44 (0) 844 499 4733 | E: [email protected] Now how unprofessional was that response?? A) STILL did not receive her full name! B) All I got for her superiors details was "Jon"!! ANY ADVISE GUYS ON WHAT MY NEXT PLAN OF ACTION MIGHT BE?? NB: Just read on Dialaphone website that they no longer provide new customers with the 'Gadget Helpline' service as of May 2013. My contract began on 10th May 2013!!
  4. Hi Im looking for some advise, in 2011 my mother took out a mobile phone contract on my behalf with mobiles.co.uk. On Friday I received a returned direct debit notice via email from a company called Gadget Helpline debited as (TMTI Limited) from my mothers account. Looks like this company has been taking 20.16 from her account since 2011 every 6 months, I am shocked that this has been allowed to happen, we have requested a copy of agreement from mobiles but I am still waiting this getting sent to me. I also spoke with Gadget Help Line to find out how they got my mothers financial information but they have advise they were passed the details by mobiles. My question is who should I persue to claim back these charges mobiles or gadget? And I would also like to send something of to gadget to see if they are legally allowed to hold my mothers details as my mum is really worried about them having them. Regards daviscup
  5. Hi all I hope someone can help with this. It may have been posted before but I'm not sure what the insurance is called. My mother in law has just closed her account with Barclays Bank due to charging issues. She asked at the time why she had been charged £6.50 a month as her account just says £6.50. Being in her 70s she assumed it was a fee to pay her direct debits. They explained it was for a Small Appliance insurance and to cover lost passports etc. She explained to me that my late father in law may have taken this out although he may not have know !!!! this has certainly been missold as my mother in law and father in law never had anything worth insuring. No mobile phones, gadgets, passports, anything at all worth the payment. This has gone on for almost 12 years to the tune of almost a thousand pounds.......they have never ever been abroad and never in the last 20 years been on holiday in the UK my father in law had a terrible lung condition and could barely move. I was so shocked to hear about this and how he must have been duped. Does anyone know if and how I can make a claim for her, and has it been done before. It is astonishing how this can happen ....It did happen to my young son at the age of 18 when he opened his first bank account and got into trouble with the payments when he had nothing to insure either. He took my advice and told them to stuff it.... I feel I need a more mature approach after 12 years. Tell it as it is because I have taken Barclays to court for bank fees before and received a refund of charges and the Halifax so I am willing to take them on but I have not heard of this before. Do you think my Mother in law has a case ? My father in law died almost 2 years ago and the payments were still taken. It was a joint account. Thanks in advance
  6. Please help before I go insane! Last week, I woke as normal and placed my phone on the side of the washbasin in the ensuite and washed and then brushed my teeth. I needed the toilet so sorted that then went back to the basin to wash my hands. I left water in the basin to do this. To my horror, My Iphone was now submerged in the bottom of the basin. I claimed under my bank account gadget insurance gadgetsafe and after getting things so mixed up for 10 days and saying my phone was stolen! they have said that they will not cover this as I did not take reasonable precautions to prevent damage or loss. How could i possibly have predicted that? I dont consider I have been reckless. They have made me feel like a criminal and even said that people do this to replace old or tatty phones. Its an Iphone 4 and although 14 months old, is in brand new condition. I really look after this and have always had screen protectors on front and rear as well as a bumper case so surely this is testemant that I really do take reasonable care to prevent damage?? Thinking about it, for any sort of accidental damage to happen they could turn round and use this as a get out clause so whats the point? I have paid this for 2 years and never claimed for anything in my life. I have obviously appealed today but they dont seem to see common sense. Any ideas anyone please?
