  1. Hi All, Apologies if I am repeating a previous thread but I am after some urgent advice. I have 4 DCA's that I was dealing with through a DMC. I have a lump sum available and have stopped using the DMC now and have been talking with the DCA's directly, I have came to agreements of partial settlements with 2 of them but as of yet I haven't paid anything to them. I have been reading these forums and realise what I should have done is send a CCA request to them all before arranging partial settlements. My question is what happens if it turns out they have no legal right to collect my debt, the debts are no longer on my credit file. Can I simply refuse to pay them and write the debt off? Thank you in advance, Mike
  2. Morning. My sister has gone with a debt company. I’m now very worried about her, she got in touch with them in November 2012. Started her monthly payments in Dec 12. To date one of her debts has gone from 400.00 to 1200 and she is still getting letters not just from this creditor but all of them. And others have doubled. They call her mobile and house line all hours of the night and day, sends her emails. She has even had men at the door telling her to pay up. She is still paying SP Hayes in the hope that it will all stop. She went to them because she was on the verge of a breakdown back in November . Since then She lost her job in January not just because of the debts there were other reasons but creditors were calling her work daily, she is currently living on £50 per week until she finds a new job. I just hope they can hurry up and get this debt plan running smoothly as I thought the whole idea of these companies were to stop all the stress and help. Whats your thoughts? Does this really take this long to set up
  3. I received a postcard through the post today from this company asking me to contact them about an outstanding debt of over £1000 from 2008 on behalf of Thames Water, in the name of someone who has never lived at the property. I rent the house and my landlord picks up the post sometimes. He said he received a few letter from Thames Water about an outstanding debt in the name of someone who's never lived at the property so he's just ignored them (my landlord is in his 60s and was born in the house). I gave them a call and told them that I wasn't the person on the card, gave them my landlord's contact details. Bit worried they'll send 'the heavies' round! What should I do next? Any help/advice, much appreciated.
  4. A friend of mine told me that she is currently using a Debt Management Company to deal with her debts. They currently charge her £100 pcm for their "service" but still can't effectively deal with a certain High Street Bank who are still sending her letters, etc. My advice was that as she's currently paying as much again to the Debt Management Company as she's paying to her creditors, then she'd be far better off dumping the DMC and with my help and the advice and support of CAG members she'd clear her debts far more quickly and efficiently. Am I right? I'll send her a link to this thread so that she can see your replies and advice. Thanks all. H.
