  1. Hi guys, I'll be ringing up the company tomorrow and Wanted to know what they are like dealing with ? Thanks
  2. Does anyone know if comet extended warranties are being honoured? my 82 year old dad has a tv he paid £1000 for plus £300 for a 5 year warranty. tv has developed a fault and the aftercare number is now just a statement of comets closure. I cant find any other info or number to contact. Hate to think my dads gonna be £1300 outta pocket.
  3. Hi there, I've recently discovered I have a CCJ from a Comet Store card of around £970 which was registered when they were underwritten by Santander. I've contacted the solicitors who dealt with the process and they say it was passed back to Santander. Who are now New Day ltd, I've spoken to both Santander (who have no record of it existing) and New Day who can't find any record of it either. I need to get a certificate of Satisfaction in order to rent a property and can't seem to do so.? Is my only option to write to the court to get the judgement set aside? What else can I do to resolve it in as timely a manner as possible? Thank you
  4. I brought a Beko cooker from Comet over a yr ago took out 5 yr cover. Since I brought it, the oven turns itself off in the middle of baking!! Anyway 6 months ago I noticed the paint work at the botton of the cooker is rusting either side, when I asked for a replacement they said I was not entitled to it cos it's only cosmetics & does not interfere with the cooking / baking!!! Told them it was under 1 yr old & that should not happen they then said sometimes it does & they lef it at that. Cover runs out in 2017 what are my rights (
  5. Hello, I need some help from a SOGA expert. My Sony Bravia failed after almost exactly 3 years needing a new circuit board at a total cost of £122. The TV new was over £600. SOGA suggests that it should have lasted at least 6 years. Obviously I cannot go after Comet so my question is can I pursue Sony through SOGA, to the courts if needed. Their so called customer service is based off shore with very poor english and they were most unhelpful. I certainly won't buy Sony again. Any advce would be welcome. I will write to them suggesting they cough up as a good will gesture but, given their attitude on the phone, I am not too hopeful. Thanks Martin g
  6. hi everyone, I need so help from an expert on the Sale of Goods Act, as I bought a PC from comet in July 2011, it was returned as faulty in October 2011 with a faulty dvd drive, memory and hard drive which they then repaired under warranty it's worked fine ever since and has only had light usage but sadly it wont work at all since July this year. It's a packard bell all in one touch screen pc and the screen fails to work, at barely 2 years old and I think (though cant be sure as I am not an expert) that the graphic card has failed as the screen doesn't come on at all which makes the PC unusable. I didn't purchase an extended guarantee from comet as I've had numerous packard bell pc's over the years and they've all lasted well and have been of general good quality, in other words I've had no complaints about them until now. Comet obviously no longer exist I've emailed packard bell and asked them to undertake a free of charge repair as clearly the device is not fit for purpose as it's reasonable to expect more than two years/(18months approx since last repair) in lifepsan from a computer. Packard bell wont help and have referred me back to the retailer comet who of course no longer exist. I've threatened them with the SOGA in my previous emails and I'm certain though not sure that responsibility for repairs transfers to the manufacturer under the SOGA when a retailer goes out of business or ceases to trade. This is the part I'm not sure about! Does responsibility for the PC transfer to Packard Bell now comet is no longer trading. Also does anyone know what constitutes a fair and reasonable life span for a PC which would satisfy trading standards I've looked on the internet but cant find any consistent (read legally satisfying) references. Many Thanks for any help and advice.
  7. Who is comets insurer for camera's etc, I bought a camera last year and took out the 5 year plan to insure the camera, when i went into store before they closed the person in there said there's a number on the back which is the 3rd party's contact details which reading through i cant find anywhere. Does anyone know who the insurer is so i can give them a call, Before comet went under i sent my camera to them to be fixed due to a error keep popping up something to do with the lens not releasing when the camera was turned on, that was fixed but they also cleaned the camera in which recently i have used and noticed alot of blotches all over my pictures, ive cleaned the lens on the outside but they are still there. Any help would be appreciated Thanks for your time
  8. Hi people, Hoping you could offer me some advice. Anything appreciated. I discovered on Friday that my 50” Plasma LG 50PJ550 purchased from a Comet store 18 months ago was no longer working. It has the following problem: When I tried to switch the LG 50PJ550 on with either the remote control ormanually on the LG 50PJ550 itself the red standby light goes outand the LG 50PJ550 tries to illuminate briefly then goesback to standby mode and then tries to switch on again then switches off. There is also some loud clicking when this ishappening therefore I believe the unit as faulty. Just going on random AV forums would suggest there is an inherrent problem with this model and the exact same symptons and diagnosis. LG support believes the unitis faulty and their diagnosis based on our transcript leads them to believe itis the power supply board within the TV. Coincidentally, this was also Comet's diagnosis over the phone yesterday. LG also stated in transcript that from asupport perspective they have had this very same issue reported previously. Given that both LG and Comet's initialanalysis suggests a problem within the TV I would want this problemdealt with by the retailer. LG also stated that as it was out of warranty by 6 months that it would be at a chargeable cost. I have directly approached Comet and said that under the Sale of GoodsAct 1979 makes it an implied term that goods be as described, of satisfactoryquality, free of flaws and made from durable materials to last a reasonablelength of time. As they are in breach of thisI am entitled by my statutory rights to have the LG 50PJ550 repaired at no cost, replaced or a full refund given. They have responded by saying that they would inspect it at a cost of £69.00 as in agreement with Trading Standards. Citizens Advice state that my statutory rights are such that I should have it repaired at no cost. I'm not sure where to go with this but am mooting the idea of small claims court. Any suggestions? I have sent them a recorded letter today with 14 days response required as to their actions. Michael

  11. I bought a dishwasher on Monday from Comet which they had in stock in their Distribution Centre. It was due to be delivered on Saturday morning . As I understand that dishwasher is now mine. On Thursday after hearing that Comet was going into Administration I phoned to make sure there wouldn't be any problems but they assured me everything was in order for a Saturday delivery. On Friday evening I got a call from Comet to say it wouldn't be delivered and that I was to go back to the store for a refund. I went to the store on Saturday to be told there wouldn't be any refunds. So I am now out over £300 and stand to get nothing back. They will not tell me what happened to the dishwasher that was sold and allocated to me for delivery. Is this fraud?
  12. These are from Head Office. Administrators say there are no plans for further redundancies at this time, and stores will continue to trade. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20274129
  13. Just doing my morning news reading and came across an article on the BBC news website and in the Guardian saying Comet are close to appointing an administrator, possibly today. Its shame for the 6000 that might lose their jobs.
  14. I bought a Nikon Camera (£365) from Comet last August 2012. at the time i bought a 5 yr extended accidental damage warrenty from them too, the total price was £65 for the warranty, I used my credit card to pay for both products, the camera also came with Nikons 2 year standard breakdown warranty, I do realize that if it broke down now, i would obviously approach Nikon as comet are going to the wall, BUT this is my question. I bought the extended warrenty for the accidental damage cover, As i paid on my credit card for that i would have protection through the credit card, can i expect the CC to cover and pay for any accidental cover as i would not be able to claim on the warranty?
  15. I have a Comet Gift Card, is this still valid? The Administrators are currently considering the position in relation to gift cards and gift vouchers and at this stage they cannot be used to pay for items. The Administrators are reviewing this position urgently. As a result no further gift cards or gift vouchers will be issued to customers. I have fully paid/ part paid for Goods which have not been delivered as yet. Will I still receive my Goods? Provided your order has been paid for in full and the item is currently in stock at one of the distribution centres or is already in process of being delivered by the Home Delivery Platforms, it is intended that existing orders/deliveries will be delivered and installed as normal. Where the item for an existing order is not currently in stock, this delivery cannot now be made. New orders or payments for home delivery are not being accepted at this time. I bought an item on line to collect in store, will I still receive it? Provided your order has been paid for in full and the item is currently in stock at one of the distribution centres or is already in process of being delivered by the Home Delivery Platforms, it is intended that existing orders/deliveries will be delivered and installed as normal. Where the item for an existing order is not currently in stock, this delivery cannot now be made. New orders or payments for home delivery are not being accepted at this time. I ordered goods but did not pay any deposit, will they still be delivered? Any goods ordered but not paid for prior to Administration will not be delivered. Therefore, you should visit your local store and make arrangements to buy the item from the store. My TV/laptop have been sent to Comet for repair, will they still be repaired and returned? The repair operations are continuing and we will seek to complete the repair and return the item. I bought an extended warranty with my goods a few weeks ago, will this still be honoured? ExtraCare Service Plans and Extended Warranties are provided by a third party (The Warranty Group) and is unaffected by the Administration of Comet Group Limited. In the event that Comet is unable to continue repairs The Warranty Group will appoint a new repair agent to ensure continuity of repair service for ExtraCare and Extended Warranty customers. An item I bought from Comet has become faulty, who do I contact? You should contact the Comet Customer Support Centre on 0844 800 95 95 and select option 3 and follow the voice prompts which will direct you to the relevant repair agent. I've had an item delivered that was "dead on arrival"? You will need to contact the manufacturer direct to arrange an inspection and/or exchange. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any refunds. I bought an item two weeks ago and now dont want it, can I return it for a refund? We are not able to provide any refunds. I've had goods delivered and they are damaged. What do I do? We are not able to provide a refund of this product as the payment was made to Comet Group Limited prior to it entering Administration. I bought goods on a credit agreement, is this still valid? Yes, credit agreements are unaffected. Can I cancel my credit agreement and return the goods to Comet? Unfortunately you will not able to return the goods to Comet. Credit arrangements are managed by Santander who can be contacted via the Comet Customer Support Centre on 0844 800 95 95, option 4. I need a spare part for my item (e.g. vacuum cleaner), where can I obtain it from? We stock some essential accessories like vacuum bags and filters in store. However if you require a spare part then please contact RepairCare on 0844 5577888. If I buy a product from you now, will you still deliver it and install it for me? Providers of a delivery service are available at the store, but we are no longer able to offer an installation services. If I buy a new Cooker/Fridge, will you collect my old one? At this time we are not taking new orders for doing deliveries, installations and collections so alternative arrangements should be made. If I buy an Ex Display item from your store, will it have a warranty with it? All products will be sold with a manufacturer's warranty. This warranty should be registered once the item is purchased. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase in case the manufacturer needs to inspect it. If I buy an item from you, and it becomes faulty, who will I be able to speak to about it if you close down? All products will be sold with a manufacturer's warranty. This warranty should be registered once the item is purchased. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase in case the manufacturer needs to inspect it. Comet Group Ltd In Administration

  17. Following the confirmation of administration today, which will be from next week,We await a statement from administrators giving information to customers with pre orders which have been paid for.returns and warranties etc etc. Comets warranties were underwritten by The Warranty Group who will still have a responsibility to customers irrespective of Comet going into administration. Their website; http://uk.thewg.com/product-warranties/electrical/index.html Their Customer helpline number for the UK is 01594 863000 Customers with vouchers should use these ASAP. If you paid for goods by card you may be entitled to raise a claim under s75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Please feel free to post below if you have been affected. As reported by the BBC; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20164228 Comet's customer care team is handling customer inquiries on 0844 8009595. But dont hold your breath if what we have seen from their customer services for the last 3 years is anything to go by,
  18. High-street electrical chain is estimated to have lost £35m in a year and could go into administration on Thursday http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/nov/01/comet-electrical-goods-jobs-risk
  19. Anybody got any advice because COMET have done nothing in 6 weeks after I reported a fault with a coffee machine that has a 5 year warranty. Their customer care is appalling, they make promises and nothing happens, they don't answer emails. I will think very carefully about every buying from them again. What's the point of a warranty if they just hope you'll go away.
  20. Hi, I purchased a TV about 3 years ago from Comet, The tv at the time cost me £700, I purchased the Total Product Cover warranty which also covers accidental damage, 2 weeks ago I was moving the tv to another room and it slipped out my ends, to cut a long story short it was damaged, So I phoned up and the engineers came, took it and I phoned in today to check progress and they said they've written it off and will replace it. Here's my issue, I said that was fine but they offered me a replacement tv which I did not like, They stated I could take the replacement or vouchers BUT they would only give me vouchers for £530 as that was the equivalent model price. I was told when I purchased the warranty that if vouchers would be issued it would be to the value of the purchase price (£700). in my T&C's it states this: "If you choose not to accept this replacement, we may offer an alternative of the same current value, or Comet vouchers to the value of the advised replacement. Should a replacement model not be available you will be given Comet vouchers up to the purchase price of the insured product. This is at our sole discretion. The value will always be limited to the original purchase price." I asked them for the vouchers for original price so I can purchase a Tv that I actually liked and they refused. I'm not going to accept £530 when I insured for £700, is there anyone that had a similar issue or can help?
  21. Title refers to another post in 2011 clearly nothing changed in 2012! I took my 18 month old Panasonic NN-CF778SBPQ combination oven/microwave back to Comet when its inverter failed. This meant that although the oven still worked fine, the microwave didn't work at all. No problem because although the part was expensive, I had wisely (or so I thought!) taken out Comet's extended warranty. The store advised me on Friday August 24 that the repair could take up to 28 days, but was unlikely to do so. A good job I thought as maybe some people might be using this oven as their main means of cooking! 28 days seemed a very long time for a product that might well have a daily use. There was no sign at all of a quick repair, so I calculated out 28 "working days" (just to be sure) and found that it was due back by the 4 October. I tried to call the store, but of course you need to call an 0844 number at high rate per minute, then wait 20+ minutes to connect, in order to chase up Comet's bad service. I got a promise that someone would call me. They did to say the part wasn't yet in stock and would take a week (I could have sourced it myself from the net on a 24 hour delivery with ease). I waited - nothing. So I decided to avoid phone costs that merely added insult to injury, and email them instead. This time I was told that whoever said 28 days was mistaken because they only agree to a 'reasonable amount of time' for repairs. Is it me or is over six weeks 'unreasonable'? Days later, I then received a random phone message from either the store or Comet central to say the part was delayed (again?) and would now not be ready until Monday the 15th October. Needless to say I have heard nothing. My microwave is not old at 18 months. In fact the microwave aspect of it has hardly been used at all, it was bought mainly to use as a second oven. I am unsure what to do next. Comet seem to have absolutely no concept of what customer service actually means. Most definitely will not be buying either goods or warranties from them again.
  22. Just over 1 week ago I bought a Samsung TV from Comet. I also said we were interested in a soundbar for a better sound system as we didnt want wires to speakers all over the room. The salesman told us the better option would be to buy the Bose Companion 3 system, which has 2 small speakers that stand at the side of the TV. (there was one on display actually connected to the TV) So, we spent a total of over £1800. At the till, just before paying the assistant tried to give us the hard sell about an extra 4 year warranty for about £400 but we declined. We messed around setting everything up and yesterday noticed we have a vertical yellow line going down the whole length of the TV screen - on the Comet website the reviews for my particular TV mentioned this same fault and the reviewer had to have his TV replaced. I went into Comet today, the assistant didnt seem at all surprised at this problem - it was known to him (Well why sell me the TV!!!) and said if it had been within 72 hours of purchase he could have done something but because it was over that time I would have to arrange for a Samsung engineer to come out, who would in all probability exchange the TV. He also managed to get the comment in that if this had happened over 12 months later we would have been sorry we didnt take out the extra warranty Before phoning Samsung I wanted to do a little checking around as my second problem is that I suspect the Bose system I have been sold is a system for computer speakers, not for TV's. When googling this problem online I find this is indeed the case, other people have been sold this system as a TV surround sound and when they complained to Comet they were told the Bose is marketed as a multimedia system so therefore that covers TVs. On Bose's own website they talk about this system as computer speakers. I am now feeling rather aggrieved and would rather have a refund on both products, the TV as faulty and the Bose as not sold for what I wanted it for. Am I entitled to one as the products are under 28 days old? Can I now insist on a refund by speaking to Comet? Surely if I phone Samsung direct they might well send a replacement TV but they won't give a refund themselves? I paid by credit card - unfortunately I have disposed of both boxes they came in (It was a 46" TV after all) Thank you in advance
  23. I recently visited local Comet store, enquired about Bose home cinema systems and was shown a Companion 3. At no time did the salesperson say the Companion 3 was not a home cinema system so I bought one, got it home and it wouldn't work with my tv. Went onto the Bose website and discovered that what I had been sold as a 'home cinema' system is actually marketed by Bose as computer speakers. Took it back to the store for a refund on the basis that I had been mis-sold a product that wasn't what I wanted but they refused to give me a refund stating that the product was 'Multi-media', the package had been opened and it worked fine in the store. (a. Multi-media does not translate to home cinema system, b. how could I have determined that it didn't work as expected without opening it, c. what good is it to me if it does work in store, that's not where I would want to use it even if it was a home cinema system?) Have written to Comet twice so far and they have basically refused to accept responsibility for providing an after-sales service of any description. See contributor 'Marwan' had similar problem in April this year. Will try his tactics next and write to MD!
  24. I went in to comet at Manchester fort and purchased Samsung american style Fridge /Freezer on offer price of £559 and got next day delivery for £50 . pluged in after 12 hours did not worked at all. Effectively i have been sold a faulty product in first place. I ve called customer services and after some passing around repair team said go in to store they will refund yoy. Went in to same store and they refused refund or even exchange , rather they persisted there terms and condition say no refund or exchange . I have shown them their T&C which states i have the right to change of mind and if faulty/ damaged than will be refunded.I have a one and half year old baby n elderly parents i needed fridge urgently and its 2 days now witt out one. They say samsung engineer will come n examine/ repair but i dont want repair i have purchased new fridge which suppose to last for years if it cant get started what can i expect. I have never encountered such bullying and total arrogance from any retailer.Manager even after showing T&Cs acclaimed "company policy" is defiant of refund or exchange .I f i have to get repaired stuff than i should have gone to scrapyard . Any help how to tackle this issue as i am very stressed.
  25. I have just started an appalling relationship with Comet. I bought a Panasonic fridge freezer which was delivered on 29th August 2012 and within 4 days broke down. I have to date spent a full day on the issue, including a trip to the store itself. All I have been offered is an engineers visit in 5 days time. I have asked for it to be removed and a full refund, but Comet have refused. It looks as though I may well be have to take them to court, and am currently having to use a cool box and ask neighbours to freeze cool packs for me. My advice is to avoid Comet and Panasonic at all costs. I spoke intelligently and calmly to both organisations and I might just as well have not bothered. I have put my complaint in writing to Comet and sent it recorded delivery. I also emailed them, and I received the cursery email back saying they would reply within 24 hours. If anyone is considering buying from Comet or Panasonic I would think very carefully indeed. Panasonic use an outsourced company to service their goods.
