After a two-year investigation, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published a series of recommendations for the energy market, including a cap on how much prepayment meters can charge. The watchdog has unveiled a package of 30 measures it claims will help drive costs down by increasing competition between suppliers and helping more people switch. Key changes are: A temporary price cap on prepaid tariffs. Opening up customer databases to rival firms. Removal of the 'four-tariff rule'. http://home.bt.com/lifestyle/money/mortgages-bills/energy-market-review-promises-prepayment-meter-price-cap-11364069708329

The Competition and Market Authority (CMA) has revealed the not entirely surprising news that cutomers taking out “pay day” loans may be paying too much. Short-term lending websites such as Wonga.com and QuickQuid.co.uk have been under increasing scrutiny for what many see as exploitative interest rates– a £250, 14-day loan can comes with an APR of almost 6,000% (about £40 is added for interest and fees). But now, aside from the matter of interest, the British competition watchdog has flagged that borrowers – which are inherently squeezed for cash – are paying too much because of a lack of competition among lenders. An independent CMA panel concluded the average ‘pay day’ loan customers, who borrows money six times a year, or in other words once every two months on average, would be between £30 and £60 better off if there was greater competition. Around £45mln a year could be saved by customers in the UK, it said. http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/69349/payday-loan-customers-pay-too-much-watchdog-says-69349.html

Hi, everyone, my case started in 2006 when i remortgaged with gmac. I had a well paid job and all was fine. Shortly after this i was made redundant and had to take a much lesser paid job. I also had a secured loan with gmac. I admit i buried my head in the sand trying to keep the family together but i knew that the inevitable would come one day. In nov 2010 i decided to hand back the keys to the property as all my children were up and gone and i knew the time had arrived. While all this was going on,gmac had handed over to paratus. In dec 2011 the house was sold well under the value of the mortgage. At this moment in time i am living between my sisters, daughters and parents houses as i can not afford to rent anywhere. I came to an arrangement with black horse and i am paying £50 per month to clear the secured loan but this is going to take years to clear (i probably wont be here). I sent a letter to capital securities offering £50 per month for 5 years in full and final settlement but they have refused stating that they will accept the offer for 6 months but then want i/ex updates and to increase the amount as time goes on. Again i will be paying the amount for more years than i will be here!!. I am thinking about making myself bankrupt but if anyone can give me some advice of any alternative i would appreciate it. Sorry for the long winded post.
