After a two-year investigation, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published a series of recommendations for the energy market, including a cap on how much prepayment meters can charge. The watchdog has unveiled a package of 30 measures it claims will help drive costs down by increasing competition between suppliers and helping more people switch. Key changes are: A temporary price cap on prepaid tariffs. Opening up customer databases to rival firms. The Competition and Market Authority (CMA) has revealed the not entirely surprising news that cutomers taking out “pay day” loans may be paying too much. Short-term lending websites such as Wonga.com and QuickQuid.co.uk have been under increasing scrutiny for what many see as exploitative interest rates– a £250, 14-day loan can comes with an APR of almost 6,000% (about £40 is added for interest and fees). Hi, everyone, my case started in 2006 when i remortgaged with gmac. I had a well paid job and all was fine. Shortly after this i was made redundant and had to take a much lesser paid job. I also had a secured loan with gmac. I admit i buried my head in the sand trying to keep the family together but i knew that the inevitable would come one day. In nov 2010 i decided to hand back the keys to the property as all my children were up and gone and i knew the time had arrived. While all this was going on,gmac had handed over to paratus.
