About Me

  1. I was recently made redundant as the company is in financial difficulty. The director is completely dodgy having rolled the company a few times to get rid of debt and not pay his creditors. I have been offered the correct redundancy payment of 3 months as worked there for 2 years, they also promised me a payment of 3 weeks gross pay. I have received a letter stating these payments will be made as my monthly salary with the final payment having the extra included. I have been advised by the ops manager that the director is planning to roll the company again soon. I now have
  2. Hello all In the Autumn of 2017 I moved into a new property. Both Gas and Electricity were provided by Npower on a PostPay meter. I immediately contacted them to advise them who I was and they set up new accounts for the property in my name. I then went to a comparison website and ended up switching both fuels to Iresa. Npower did not object to the Gas being switched but did initially object to the Electricity being switched. I contacted Npower who said that they no longer objected and Iresa should apply for the transfer. I subsequently received final bills fro
  3. Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me? I had a run in with Cabot a few years ago and have been paying them off ever since as i was terified as to what they were going to do. I did at one point ask for a breakdown of what i owed and why from them but all i received was a blank piece of paper with the total amount outstanding written on it. I didnt give it a second thought really, just thought this is what i owed as they said they hadnt added any extra charges!! Im still paying this off (nearly finished very soon actually) is there any way i can find out if they have added massive charges to
  4. A few weeks ago I was approached by the B.A.G to give my story so it could be used to highlight what people are going through and for it to be used for media releases etc. I must admit that at first I was a little unsure, what would it entail? Would I be forced into saying things I didn’t want to say? The answer to that is a big fat NO WAY!! It’s the best thing I have done so far as I have had a lot of fun in doing it! Basically my story in a nutshell is I am a single mum on benefit who set up a direct debit to pay off my credit card. The card company claimed money a week early
  5. Hi folks, I'm chasing Barclays for DPA disclosure for my OH. I wrote the letter to them some 2 months ago and close to the deadline I sent another letter saying the dealine had almost expired. Still no statements have turned up. They did say they were sent to the local branch but when going to the branch, they had not arrived apparently. What to do next? The deadline has expired and no written response has been received from them? Cheers folks
  6. The 2-week deadline for RBS to respond to my request to repay the £2,011 owed to me has now expired. 2 weeks on, and 2 letters later, it seems as though they've totally ignored me. Naturally, tomorrow sees the start of my legal action against them when I begin my claim. The good news, I suppose, is that I can now add the interest to my claim bringing it up to £2,630. Apart from the £50 I will reclaim in expenses, the cost of all this so far is 8 hours of my time and £3. Not bad really I'll keep you all posted
  7. Hey all, Firstly I am a newbie who saw you at MoneySavingExpert.com and I think what you're doing is great work I am writing the letter to my bank as we speak to reclaim £2,623.13!!! I followed all the instructions, read the FAQ's and have had a nose about but I can't find anywhere why the limit is 6 years and not, say 8 or 5. Can someone explain to me where this comes from please as I'd like to put this in my letter to the bank. Unfortunately I found the template in the library to be, in my humble opinion, meek and amateur when faced with a mamoth corporation like a bank so
  8. i have a bad loan for £2403.89, was reading in another thread that sometimes the debt collection agencies buy the debt off the loan company for as little as 12%, if that is true, would that be why they offered to settle for £1262.04, would this indicate that the debt has been sold and if so are there any ways to make the situation easier for me, i dont wish to worm my way out of the debt (ahem unless i can) but what i am thinking is if they have bought it for a rediculess amount can i offer realistically a silly settlement amount like £700 any help would be appreciated as i would like to pay
  9. i just found this site thru moneysavingexpert.com, i did not realise charges were unlawful, i have had a bad last few years financially and had quite a few charges, 22 in all, 11 in the last 12 months, i have rung my bank for a breakdown of the charges and will sent the standard letter to them and see what the results are, any suggestions/comments would be appreciated, i am now on an even kiel and have been for the last 5 months, life is getting better and up untill then when i needed help from the bank the more or less showed me the door, now there is money going in substatially they now offe
  10. Just posted my first letter re bank charges refund to abbey today, lots of other bank accounts to go(doing both mine and my boyfriends bank charges) Everyone should know about this site!! Cant wait to see what knid of pathetic response they send me back!
  11. Hi everyone, I wrote to Egg on the 19th March, also emailed them through their messaging service. Gave them 7 days to refund charges of £120. Had 2 replies by email basically saying the charges are not unlawful and they will not be upholding my complaint. Had 1st letter today (25th) basically saying the same thing and telling me I have 6 months to complain to the Financial Ombudsman if I want to! Tomorrow is D-Day for them so I will be onto MCOL filing a claim as Sunday is a no-post day so do not expect to receive anything. Will keep you updated. Anna
  12. Abbey have sent letter following my request for backdated data (without the £10) addressed to DPA Team I might add, stating my request is for specific information and I do not have to ask for it under the DPA and sent my letter to Customer Complaints department who will supply info free of charge. If I do wish it to be a subject access request under DPA write back sending £10 etc. Does the subject access request under DPA make a difference?
  13. My mortgage is with Britannia. I have searced for them on this site, and found no mention. Does this mean they do not practice unlawfull chargeing?
  14. Hi all Well, after stumbling across the "Bank charges - illegal?" thread on Money Saving Expert late on Friday night, I found this site. Having reviewed lots of information on here, I totted up my bank charges since I opened my A&L account last year..... just under £1100 I haven't had any previous contact with them on this issue (apart from the odd charge being refunded as a goodwill gesture previously - hence the "nett" comment in the letter) So, to get the ball rolling, I took the preliminary letter and modified it a little. First draft is below, it's ready to send on Monday m
  15. I came to return my brother's car and parked on the suspended bus stop which had been closed due to Gasworks mains replacement. Below is my letter to Newham, I have appeal on 18th Jan 2019 and need some guidance. The PCN ….. was issued while the vehicle was parked on the Bus Stop on Plashet Road. Plashet Road was closed due to Mains Replacement work on Green Street. Stukeley Road had notices stating that it was closed from 28th July to 5th October. The works overran the above schedule and I wasn’t aware of its completion until after I was informed about PCN. My broth
  16. I found out yesterday that RBS have closed my account with no warning and they have said I can't get any funds out of the account. They say there is a letter on it's way - it leaves me in a bad way just a few days before Christmas. They told me to contact them in the New Year to see if there is any update. How long can they keep my money for? I had an old debt with Natwest going back 20 years - can they take this from my RBS funds??
  17. Hi, I've received a Notice of Assignment letter from Hoist Finance UK Holdings 1 Limited. It relates to an MBNA credit card debt that I paid off in full October 2017. There were no late payments for the duration of time I had the debt, and the balance they have on the letter looks to be from many years ago. I've seen from other posts here that you can send the holding company a request for more information and what data they hold on you, but since I don't owe any money and they currently have extremely out-of-date information about me (only address is correct), I don't really
  18. Hi, I have a question regarding my credit file & 4 Lowell accounts which were closed as a "goodwill gesture" due to my ongoing mental health illness. Due to them constantly contacting me via telephone and threatening letters, I contacted them first email to request they stop contacting me via my telephone and also to try and setup some kind of affordable repayment plan to clear these accounts. I also explained my health circumstances and my very low income. They requested I complete a income/expenditure and some proof of my illness. I replied with my doctor's report and expl
  19. My personal current account was recently suspended pending a 'compliance review' and then about 3 days later immediately closed with no warning. No reason was given so got absolutely no idea why it was closed. They are also saying that the balance (approx £3-4000) will be credited back to the most recent accounts that have paid in, but this won't be done for 6-10 weeks, "possibly longer". They blocked a payment out for my rent (made approx 4 days prior to them suspending the account initially) which they were informed about right away, and which caused the payment to be 10 or so days
  20. I bought a car for £6K but it was faulty and so I rejected it. The dealer promised a refund but has not paid it and I have obtained a CCJ. However they have now ceased trading. I have a name and address for the owner and will pursue via bailiffs. However is there anything more I can do? It seems rather odd if there is no criminal offence.
  21. Hello everyone I’m looking to get some help if possible please my partner recently applied to open a new HSBC bank account for the cash incentive via the online system. The account she applied for some reason was declined but then instantly offered a standard basic account instead which she accepted and the card and pin arrived a few days later. The following week another letter arrived in a large envelope again from hsbc this time stating they had now closed the account without warning or notice due to not meeting the banks criteria. Strange but ok fair enough she’s not wanted as a custo
  22. Hello, recently my NatWest bank account was unexpectedly closed due to an apparent commercial decision by the bank. So as I've only now got 1 bank account I apply to open a basic bank account with HSBC which was accepted. I received the pin and was waiting for the card to arrive and today I receive this letter. It states that following a review of my application, we regret to advise you thar we no longer wish to provide you with a bank account and that they are closing it. Closing a basic bank account seems extreme, feels like I've been blacklisted or something. It'
  23. resident came to see me as a community Councillor. they are on SSP and are signed off work for at least a month. They put in a claim for UC and so did their partner, and linked the claims. A message came through that he cannot get UC as he is on JSA, strange that as he has been working and up until this potentially long term illness worked and received Tax Credits. from 2012. Turns out that when they closed his JSA they didn't put an end date when they closed the claim so it technically is still live. Very sloppy form design where it allows a critical field to be left blank on s
  24. Does anyone know of a website that I can use to refund my money from a dormant back account as I had an old TSB bank account now Lloyds which has a small amount of money which has since been closed (tried mylostaccount.org before). I've already been in my local Lloyds branch today and they advised to me to reclaim the money. Thanks
  25. Hi all, I need to remortgage my house and don't have sufficient means. My son earns more than me and I tried with my sons help to remortgage only to be told my son has a bad credit score? we did a credit check and we found out hed closed a Natwest account in 2005 to open a new Natwest current account and according to the credit check there was still £400 owing on the closed account, there was fraudulent activity on the account, he went through the NatWest fraud team and they cant do anything as the account is more than 9yrs old. He complained and paid the amount owi
