1. Hello everyone, Yesterday I parked my car near the Camden Underground and paid two hours parking through my mobile. I was planning of taking underground for a short trip which normally takes one hour but due to Camden Town underground station was shut and the roads around the Camden station were shut, I ended up 30 minutes late back to my car and got a penalty charge note. I never had any parking fine in the UK for many years and I always pay for my parking. I was unable to extend my parking time due to the restriction of maximum two hours of parking at once. I do not live in London and came from Milton Keynes. I was unaware of these major closures. Do you think I could appeal due to special circumstances like delays due to public transport delays etc? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you

Got a text today (Barclays) telling me that they paid money in to my account. WHO IS 'TATE CAMDEN'? Did they deal with Barclays Addition or Barclaycard. Can you help me?
3. The following is an extract from a press article today. Westminster Council already have a similar system in place. If only other local authorities could follow this example. http://www.camdennewjournal.com/council-tax-exemptions THOUSANDS of people in Camden are set to be made exempt from paying council tax to save the Town Hall cash on chasing for money they do not have. Labour council chiefs are looking at a plan which would see around 11,500 of the borough's poorest residents no longer receive the bill from the Town Hall. The proposal will go out to a public consultation but could come into use next year. The people who will be covered by the scheme already have a discount of around 90 per cent on their council tax bill due to their circumstances, but would move to a status of paying none at all. Most are living on very low wages or entirely on benefits, and include families and disabled claimants. Conservative opposition councillors said the idea was borrowed from neighbouring Westminster, where the Tories are in power. In Camden, the loss of income would amount to around £1.4m a year, but the council estimates this will be offset by savings on bailiffs and court costs from no longer pursuing people and as the result of more money coming in from the recent increase in council tax. “There is not much point chasing people for £100 or so bill, after the discount they already have, with court orders bailiffs if they are never going to be able to pay." He added: “The rise in council tax will allow some room for redistribution. “In all, people get a good deal from the council with years of frozen council tax or below inflation rises.” “They should have listened to us earlier, as in Westminster they are already doing this. The trouble with Camden though is that council tax is far too high.”
4. I recently received a pcn for using the bus lane on Southampton Row on my motorcycle during operating hours. I have since then informally challenged the contravention, but the pcn was not cancelled. My grounds for appeal are: the alleged contravention did not occur due to the signs and road marking being incorrect. I have attached a pdf with the Enforcement Notice, CCTV images, my route, google street view image and images taken by me a few days later. After visiting the site where it happened I found the following: 1-The white information sign (962) on Bloomsbury Place (where I was turning from) was not facing oncoming traffic so had no indication of there being a bus lane (page 6). 2- When stopped at the traffic lights again no indication of the bus lane being there. All I could see was a box junction followed by a pedestrian crossing (page 7). There was traffic as well. 3- As I turned right I moved into the left lane as I was planning to turn left just ahead. there were no angled dashed lines at the start of the lane after there was a large break in a bus lane due to the box junction (please see page 8) 4- there was no 'BUS LANE' markings on the road surface where the bus lane restarted after the box junction (page 8). 5- the hours of operation sign (961) which is situated there was turned at an angle again not facing oncoming traffic (page 8). Hope to get some helpful advice on to how to word the representations. Thank you for your help in advance!

I've attached pdfs of my challenge and also the response from Camden council. Pictures taken by me and google streeview are in the challenge pdf and images of the CCTV camera attached to the pdf correspondence from the council. Would appreciate advice into whether to proceed. What would be the next step? Thank you in advance

7. The following story appears on SCOOP today: Officers from Camden Council were left red-faced after High Court enforcement officers gained entry to the town hall last Wednesday and began seizing thousands of pounds worth of local authority owned TVs, computers and printers to repay approx £7,000 owed to a resident. http://www.hamhigh.co.uk/news/court-crime/chaos_at_camden_town_hall_as_high_court_bailiffs_seize_council_computers_to_repay_debt_to_resident_1_3788428
8. I'd be grateful if anyone could offer any advice on how to appeal. I was shocked to find my car had been towed. There was a signed posted which read 'No Loading' (as attached). It did not say 'No Parking'. But perhaps more confusing was that it gave a specific address of 'The whole Bay outside the side of number 54 Chetwynd Road'. I parked my car on Twisden Road - Chetwynd Road is the road around the corner. They are using 'The side of Number 54 Chetwynd Road' to indicate that this is the house at the end of the block on Chetwynd Road and would therefore have its side partition wall on Twisden Road. However, this is seriously confusing and when I'd seen the sign, it appeared to mean that you could not load at the side of 54 Chetwynd Road. I parked there as did two other unfortunate people who were also towed away. It was a completely wasted day as it took 7 hours to reclaim my car from the pound. I missed out on work and had to pay the council £265.00 just to get my car back which I can't really afford at the moment. Anyone who has been through this knows that you are treated as a criminal by Camden Council when trying to use your car even when you have made a genuine mistake. In this case I feel as if they are completely in the wrong and would be great to hear any advice from anyone who has taking them on. Many thanks! AP
9. Hello all just been hit with a PCN parked on a loading bay in Camden. i was clocked using the space for around 25 minutes. I was actually unloading. the sign on the bay states: Loading only Mon to Fri 8:30 to 6:30 sat 9:30 to 5:30 how to appeal this and does it make a difference where no time limits are on the sign? Thanks alot
10. So, got this one a couple weeks ago: youtube.com/watch?v=zL9Orhx6Zok Challenged the PCN, and was rejected by the council. My grounds for challenge were: 1) No sign indicating end of bus lane 2) I travelled less than 20m in the bus lane 3) When my car comes to rest I am stationary ahead of the broken section, though the view is obscured and it is impossible to say that I am inside it. 4) I did not obstruct traffic flow The reply from the council was along the lines of: 1) The bus lane end sign is further down the road, after the junction, and they sent me a picture of the sign about 150 meters down the road over the junction. - However, across the junction there is a sign to say that the bus lane restarts, therefore it must have ended(?). Equally, if the bus lane were to continue across the junction then a sign to say that there is a left turn then the red line across the top of the arrow should have been in place?. (apologies I cannot post images/links so my lousy description will have to suffice). 2) They chose to neglect the 20m guideline I spoke about.- In my draft of what I may (or may not) sent to PATAS I have shown using photos and the video exactly the distance that my car was in the bus lane (I mean, from when my first front/nearside wheel enters to when the solid white line becomes broken) to be 17 meters at the most. 3) Said that 'had a permitted vehicle been travelling in the bus lane I would have held it up' - I was stationary outside of the bus lane, so I wouldn't have? Another thing of note is that they sent me the Notice of Rejection via email 6 days ago, but have not yet received a paper copy, nor a notice of appeal. Which I was waiting for before starting the PATAS thing (if I go ahead with that). To me it seems fairly obvious that I haven't caused any traffic obstructions. Though I do accept that my car was fully in the bus lane for about 10m prior to it becoming a turning lane. I have about a week until the £65 gets upped to £130. What would people's opinion be on should I go for the appeal or not? I'm a student so don't really have the money to chuck about if it doesn't get upheld. And I've seen similar cases go either way... Thankyou in advance, Chris
11. According to the CEO 10 mins ,I was booked for 12 mins . so where on the sign does it give that information I asked him , "You have to look it up on the Camden web site ":jaw: words fail me !!! Needless to say it will be returned with supporting work sheets and photos , as "No offence committed " BTW it was a van being loaded with tools and ladders from the shop just in the pic
12. Hi Had my car towed at 11:25am on sunday. PCN served at 9.20am from single yellow. Just moved there and didnt know that single yellow is restricted in the area of Camden on Sunday. Got parking permit in the area but it was full the night I arrived and pretty much stayed the same during the day. I didnt notice the pcn on the car... Anyway the question is.. Do they need to display signs that the car will be towed in the area ? or just the sign of controlled zone is enough to tow the car? There is no signs on the street about towing or clamping.. just one about controlled area at the end of the road. Do I have any ground to appeal?
13. Hi, I am looking for help and/or advice please! I was towed away in Camden, Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 16.35 a.m. I parked my car on a single yellow line in Prince of Wales Road at 15:50, in front of the car, which was already there. I checked for signs and couldn’t see any restrictions. Prince of Wales Road on this side did not have any signs. Only one I could see, was at the corner between Prince of Wales Road going right to Haverstock Hill, towards Belsize Park. This sign restricted parking on single yellow line on Saturday, between 9:30 am -1:30 pm. There was lot’s of parked cars on both sides of the Haverstock Hill road, and there was already one on Prince of Wales Road, so I accepted that the parking restriction for both roads was the same. PCN was issued at 16:02 and car was towed at 16:35. I returned back at 16:50, just to realise that car is not there. I called the Police, and then Camden Parking, just to find that my car was at Regis Road Car Pound. It cost me £265 to get car released. I am not local, and obviously I was not aware of notorious CA-F (NW) parking zone restrictions. I entered into zone from Camden. The entry sign was just after the Camden Lock bridge, at the entrance to Chalk Farm Road. From there, there was no any other sign, as I drove through Chalk Farm Road, Haverstock Hill Road and turned right to Prince of Wales Road, where I parked my car. Distance from the entrance to the parking was about 1.5 miles. My points: 1. Prince of Wales Road borders two different zones CA-F (NW) (banned for all days) and CA-L (Outer) zone (banned for Mo-Sat) 2. Restriction signs are not transparent, they are rather confusing. 3. Distance from the entry point into Zone to the place I parked, is far away for drivers to be able to read and remember the restrictions, escpeccially when you need to concentrate to Camden traffic and lights in front of you. 4. Why does a Council have to waste so much time and effort taking a car away when it is not causing an obstruction to the road that is four lines wide. They towed car half an hour after they issued the PCN? Can just PCN be enough as a punishment? Few days later I went to checked all Controll Zone signs. It looks that all of them are as they should be. Only, I could mention minor obstacles on the entry sign, as someone put some stickers on it, but noting else. I have 28 days to contest, starting on April 7, 2013. Please advise on best route of action. Please find attached detailed images. I would really appreciate anyone to take the time to view and advise. Many thanks, George
14. This is a long and tricky one so bear with me... I parked in a pay and display bay in Camden and attempted to pay for parking by phone. I can't remember which company they use but it wasn't one I was already signed up to so I had to register. The registration process was TERRIBLE! Poor voice recognition and I kept getting disconnected. After a few attempts, I thought I'd pay for a short time with the coins I had and try the phone again when I got indoors where it was quieter. I did try to phone again but it took me about 20 minutes to pay and I eventually had to be transferred to an advisor. While I was doing this, I sent me fiance to check on the car and he saw an attendant writing out a ticket. You can even see his foot in one of the photos! This was on 20 June 2012. I sent an informal appeal on 5 July and had it rejected via email on 17 July. I emailed back saying I was not happy with the decision and wanted to make a formal appeal. They replied by email on 1 August saying "I understand that you wrote to us on 13/10/2012..." yeah, apparently I wrote them a letter from the future Anyway, in that letter, they said I should wait for the notice to owner to make a formal representation. I never received the Notice to Owner but instead got a letter from the local County Court. I filled in the details saying I never received a NTO and they cancelled any proceedings and said Camden would get in touch with me again. I finally received a Notice to Owner dated 14 Dec 2012 and sent my formal representation on 14 Jan. I did not receive a response but I received a Charge Certificate dated 5 March 2013. I got in touch with them again saying I had not received a response to my formal representation. They responded with a letter saying a letter was sent to me on 24 Jan 2013. With exception of official notices, they had been responding via email up until now and I definitely did not receive an email OR a letter. They enclosed a copy of the letter of the rejection notice. In both appeals, I included a copy of my phone bill that shows I attempted two calls BEFORE my parking ran out and 3 after before finally being able to make a payment with an advisor. They rejected the appeal based on the grounds that I only tried to call AFTER the parking expired and they ignored the fact that I called 2 times before. This is all getting so annoying because it has been so long. If I appeal again, do I have a decent chance based on the fact that their pay by phone parking was so difficult to use? Or should I just give up at this stage? Thanks
15. Dear all, A lovely but windy Saturday morning has been ruined by Camden. I am not told WHERE this contravention took place - surely on such a document, the exact location of the alleged contravention must be stipulated? Advise sought. Yours, ShivaYash Stoke Newington, London Camden PCN - no entry sign 15.06.2012 - EMAIL.pdf
16. This is likely to be a move we will see from other Councils. It will surely affect those who entered the buy to let market before the credit crunch and find themselves with empty houses as the austerity measures bite. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20634448
17. Have you been issued with a PCN (Penalty Charge Notice) because unbeknown to you your residents parking permit had expired? Did you know that it is your fault as you agreed to Camden's terms and conditions saying it is your responsibility to renew your permit even if the permit carries no indication as to the renewal date and if you didn't receive notification from the council that it was due? Do you think this is fair? What happens if you don't have access to the internet and can't check your permit? Did you receive a 'sticker' telling you the expiry date? Do you still have the email they sent you a year ago with the expiry date on it? How do you get a parking permit if you don't agree with their terms and conditions. If this has happened to you, please let me know as I'm am trying to collate information as to how many people have been caught this way. Thank you
