My project this summer is building a brick wall round my garden. I found a brick style I liked ("Snowie Heritage 65mm Dragwire") and ordered a couple of thousand from my local builders merchant. Part of the reason I chose these bricks is that the manufacturer (on their website) says: "The bricks can also be used in a dual application with the main face having a dark stain on the surface to replicate a weathered inner city look and the reverse side of the brick a more clean purpose made common appearance." Sounded perfect. If I didn't like the mixed coloured stain on the main face, I'd be able to lay them with the reverse side facing instead. They arrived today, and after a bit of umming an ahhing I decided the staining on the main face wouldn't quite work, so I'd go with plan B (reverse sides facing). Trouble is, the reverse sides aren't suitable for facing - each one has a serial number imprinted in it. Presumably I've got a case here for arguing (with the builders merchant) that the bricks are not as described? I'm unsure because the builders merchant's website doesn't have any information about the brick. It's the brick manufacturers who say (in effect) that either side of the brick can be facing - no the builders merchant. The builders merchants have a policy of allowing returns, but charging a 25% restocking fee (which would work out at a few hundred quid). So, before I contact them, I thought I'd better check what my legal rights are. Would DSR come into play here? (I ordered over the phone).
