  1. I'm after some advice please. We have recently been contacted by Advantis Credit on behalf of British Gas for 73.33. I have asked them to provide the billing period for the bill which they have. The billing period is 16/04/2007 - 19/05/2009. I was originally given a date where the last digit in the end date, that of 19/05/2009, read as 19/05/200r. I asked them for a better copy of the date but informed them that the start date, that of 16/04/2007, falls a few months after we sold the property. We sold the property in December 2006. However, it appears that my wife has made payment to this debt some years back, as we assumed it was our debt, but given the dates it appears that the money they were given was for a debt that is not ours. Could anyone please let me know what to do next? Advantis appear to have no interest in listening to us and if the debt is not ours then what are our chances of getting the money paid back? Thanks Lee
  2. I am being harassed by a DCA, Atdvantis, for an HMRC self-assessed penalty charge of £1200. It relates to failure to file SA two years ago - I have attempted several times to demonstrate to the HMRC that I wasn't liable as I owed no tax and therefore did not need to complete one, but they have ignored me. At this stage, they are just demanding repayment in full and offer no terms, it hasn't yet reached the county court stage. Couple of basic questions - just wondering if people here know the answers. * Is Advantis able to use any powers beyond the normal county court processes, because this is an HMRC debt? * Are they able to add charges or interest? * Is this debt collectible in County Court if I did not owe tax and I told HMRC that I did not owe tax? * If they obtain a CCJ, are they given any wider powers to collect other than the usual routes, so can I make a regular payment offer to the court? I am now unemployed so can afford very little. Many thanks for any advice!
  3. Hi everyone, Since the begining of this month (March 2012) my son has received 3 different requests for payments of debts. One is from FPC(since had one from their "friends" Bryan Carter) This is in the hands of Lee as its a Vodafone issue. A thread under Vodafone and DCAs s already on here. One is from Hamptons Legal on behalf of Red and is for an o2 issue (never had a letter from Red to my address) The other one is from Advantis Credit regarding British Gas. I can not understand why in such a short time so many letters have arrived (has a database been sold on or something) Also I dont know where to start in the process. I have read some threads and my mind is so messed up I would appriciate some guidence of any sorts Thank you JP
  4. Hi, Can someone out there help me? I am a single mum with young children. I bought my current property in 2002, about 9 years ago with my husband at the time. Prior to that we lived at his parents for roughly i'd say 3 years. At his parents home, there were four brothers and dad all with the same surname, let say Smith. Mum was the bill payer at the time. When dad in law moved out with the other sons to a new house, we stayed on in the old house but were told we had to get out within two months. When the two months were up, we paid off the gas , electric and water, for periods where we lived together and for the two months we lived on our own. I still have receipts and copies of the bills. Dont ask me why, but I do have them. Our house was a complete mess, so we couldnt move in with our toddler, so we moved in with my brother until 1.5 years later, til we fixed up our house. He did most of it himself. Elec and gas was switched on and paid for , but used water next door, and since property was unhabitable, water was connected in 2004. Bills in my name. A fortnight ago, I received a letter by Advantis credit who were instructed by United Utilities, asking for the whereabouts of Mr Smith, previously resident at ...........(PARENTS HOME),with relation to an outstanding business matter. I emailed my ex with the details, (totally annoyed that letter came to my address), who said that he'd sort it out. Good riddance, so I thought. Until I received another letter with a bill for 3k, for a period uptil 2010. We moved out in 2002 from his family home, lived at my brothers, purchased our own place and had water bills direct debited in 2004 in my name. Never missed a payment. I would love to drop my inlaws into it, as it still remains their property, but my children remain in contact with them. What do I do to stop the debt collectors knocking at my door? The letters just come for Mr Smith, no first initial, but it wasnt this Mr Smith who had the bills in his name, it was his mum at the time, and i dont know when they changed over to Mr Smith, but it wasnt this particular Smith. What do I do? It isnt my bill but i've been dragged into it. I hope this makes sense to someone, I am having sleepless nights, I swear.
