Please help and let me know how to go the creditors and what I can ask TO HELP ME, WHAT should I tell them? Can I ask to freeze 2 Month instalments or just offer pay a little? Many thanks
  3. Hi My friend is a carer for her husband who has early onset dementia they are both 62 he is on income based ESA and she also has health problems including several strokes, angina attacks and has difficulty getting out as she has fainting fits. Last week she had to attend a compliance meeting, it seems that her husband has a works pension and a building society account which she was not aware of ( he left her for another woman and only came back to her when he started becoming ill so there are parts of his life she didn't share), she has had no letters addressed to him from either the BS or the pension company and obviously she cant ask him about it, the DWP asked her about the date the pension started amounts etc, accused her of withholding evidence and have given her 3 weeks to get that evidence She contacted both the BS the DWP say the account is held and her husbands old company, the BS refused to give her any details about the account but are writing to her husband and her husbands old employer have refused point blank to even discuss it with her, both are citing the data protection act as she does not have power of attorney she can apply to the courts to get access she said protection order but I am not sure what that means but in any case it would take longer than the 3 weeks the DWP has set. I have advised her that if her husbands old employer wont write to her that she writes to them confirming the telephone call and confirming they have refused to release the details to her due to the DPA, send it signed for a get proof of signature then at least she can prove to the DWP that she cant get the information they require. What I don't her to be is 'piggy in the middle' where the DWP say get information and BS and husbands company say 'you cant have it' and she is left floundering surely the DWP themselves can get this information anyway without the DPA so the only evidence she needs to supply is that she didn't know about the pension which could be tricky as they don't have to believe her and that she has derived no income from the pension which would be clear once BS statements are provided and there has been no movement of funds, obviously there would still be the question about capital which may have resulted in an overpayment, she is going to CAB but any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you
  4. Hi guys 1st post My mother has an outstanding debt with bailiffs for Council Tax. She had an agreement with bailiffs to pay it off and defaulted after 2 payments as she could not afford it. Now they want the amount in full. They say they have requested for 'Commital to prison' which scared my mother until i explained it to her. They do not have a 'Controlled Goods Agreement' at all I have today disputed the amount as the bailiffs starting balance doesn't match what is owed to the Council. To be clear this is before any alleged fee's from the bailiffs themselves. It is just the 'starting balance'. I intend to pay it for her in a couple of weeks when I have the money together BUT I do NOT intend to pay the bailiffs fee's. Instead, what I intend to do is pay the Council in one payment via online payment what my mother owes them. Leaving the fee's with the bailiff's!! If I pay the Council, then the debt can't be passed back to the Council as the fee's would be theirs and theirs only. My intention then is, on Common Law grounds, is that I get my mother to say she doesn't consent to these charges from the bailiffs. Which is a total of £310. They are only claiming this money under the 'Control of Goods Act 2014'. Now, when the bailiff's are only left with their fee's and no actual debt - would she able to refuse consent? As an Act is only governed by consent. The other option is to just leave them with their fee's and ignore them. As it is a Civil matter - and without proof of claim - they can't actually do anything. I reach out to you guy's for answer's on this. Am I right to think I can get one over on the Bailiff's this way? They have very naughty attitudes when she calls them BUT seem very polite to me when I call! I would LOVE to get away with this
  5. Hi All, Please bear with me. I was made redundant over a year ago, and as a single Mum, I've just started my own business, but am still relying heavily on benefits while I find my feet - financially. Our landlady's told us she's selling the house in June and as we've been here for 5 years and are so happy and settled, I'd love to somehow be able to buy it. The house is expected to go on the market for 220K. My mum recently sold her house and has a 30K deposit she can give us and I'm now considering the following options: 1. My ex, who earns a good wage (100K) can 'Buy to let' for us? This sounds too good to be true - what are the issues surrounding this? 2. Would my 71 year old Mum be able to re-mortgage her house that she owns outright? It's value is 200K. Is she able to do this at her age - how much could she raise - again - what are the issues surrounding this? I'm pretty convinced that our dream's not achievable, but I thought I'd ask here first - I've heard great things about this forum. Here's hoping, Many thanks in advance.
  6. I recently fell behind with some rent payments, which I'm now paying back. My Landlord issued a claim for possession through the courts and the hearing date is in April, however, today I received a form 6a from the Landlord and I'm really confused! Does this go hand in hand with the Court hearing? It appears tactics have changed. How do I stand with a 6a as it states 'no fault possession. The Court claim says it's due to rent arrears. Please could anyone shed some light on it for me?
  7. Hey peeps, Just wondering if I could be entitled to working tax credits? From the info put into the calculator it says I am entitled but how I make the earnings might been seen as not like a normal "job". So since mum passed away, I have been all over the place, trying to figure out what I can do next. As far back as 15 years ago I was involved with the "paid to read/click" scene (Around the time when E-gold "bubble games" were a thing). That scene has now completely vanished. Soon after, I moved on to doing online surveys. A year or 2 ago I started taking them more seriously, putting a lot of time into them and reaping the rewards for my efforts. This topped up my carers allowance nicely. Looking at stats, in 1 year I earned around £900 cash paid to my PayPal account and nearly £500 in amazon vouchers. In the last 2 weeks I have earned almost £50 in PayPal cash and £20 in Amazon vouchers. So it is quite a nice earner. I know now I have the potential option to be on ESA, but with everything it involves including assessments, it's too overwhelming for me at this moment in time. Would earnings gained this way entitle me to working tax credits? If so, would this be classed as "self employed" ? Thanks
  8. The ABLE GROUP provide property maintenance services, ie glaziers, locksmiths, plumbers, electricians, drainage, gas, heating, pest control, etc. Please note however: If you need any such services, I suggest you look elsewhere. I have had the most horrendous experience with them and I hope my post helps others avoid going through the same horror story. Booked them to clear my house external drains, was quoted £114 to have them 4 drains unblocked. On the 7th of April, their Eng. came out, informed that the drains were now in good working order. My other half took his word for it and why not... They are supposed to be the specialists. After weeks of rain, I took time during last sunny weekend to clear the garden in prep. for the Summer and noticed that two drains had not been touched at all and were still blocked. Called their Customer Service, a few days ago, no reply. Called today and they refuse point blank to rectify the issue unless I pay again £114.00. What an outrage this company is really. I am absolutely furious with this disgusting bunch of dodgy people, taking the mickey. My advice to anyone is very simple: Learn from my experience and definitely engage an alternative company.
  9. Hi Just wondering if it is possible to claim and what to claim back from Quick Quick. I have had a total of 21 Loans from 2011-dec 2013 of which at least 2 of these where rolled over, at the moment there is an outstanding balance on the last one which was rolled over 5 times. at the time these loans where taken out my credit file was shot and i was just about making ends meet as i had 2 mortgages to pay. I was also able too take out loans with TXT Loans - Paid off Payday Express - negotiated a settlement figure and cleared account Payday UK - loan still outstanding was paying £1 p/m, now not paying anything and Wonga - they cleared the account and admitted they where at fault before i did anything. many thanks Lets
  10. I have just moved into a housing association property and i'm just wondering how much CT reduction I can expect to receive? I'm a single person living there. I know the rate is 25% discount for that, so I assumed that I would pay 3/4 of the full bill (It's £120 a month So I would pay £90). However when I go on benefit calculators such as the turn2us benefits calculator, it says I will only have to pay £5 a week towards CT. My details: I'm claiming carers allowance and IS (£420 a month) Rent: £400 a month (Applied for housing benefit, shared rate as i'm under 35 which will be £60 a week off rent) A second relevant question is would the council be funny if i'm not moved in after the first week? I signed the tenancy yesterday and have started paying rent. The property itself is a complete mess. No carpets, no cooker, no shower. The previous tenants clearly had kids because the walls are stained and the wooden flooring is filthy. They housing association know its that bad too as they have given me vouchers for paint and wallpaper. Then there's activating gas and electric, as well as a big list of other things I need to do before I can move in. The place needs a lot of work and with bank holiday weekend approaching, I can't find anyone to transport my things to the new address so it looks like I wont be able to move in until the end of next week. Finally, will having £4000 in my savings account cause any problems with my HB and CT benefit claims? I know it may sound bad that i'm a council tenant with 4k in savings, but that money was built up since being on the housing list by being allowed to live in my previous property rent free so I could save up and also family donations to help with the new place. After factoring in the cost of moving in (carpets, electronics, moving van hire, etc), that £4000 will be gone. Thanks
  11. Lousy Service, possible Breach of Contract? I phoned them and asked them if they could repair a tilt and turn window in a rental property They said that they could and quoted three prices (depending on what work needed to be done) which I agreed and furnished my credit card details. An appointment was made for a few days later. On the morning of the appointment the engineer telephoned me and when leaning it is a tilt and turn, said he could not do it. I complained to the company and Mr R**** sent me, (to the wrong address), an insulting reply saying they are not charging me and offering 15% discount on future work (as if). I have asked for reasonable compensation and if I do not get it will take them to court. A complete bunch of cowboys. I see that the company have complained to Trust Pilot about my naming one of their employee sin a scathing review. I have therefore removed his name. It is a pity that Able Group have not dealt with the problem rather than their petty attempts to have it removed.
  12. Hi folks, this is in response to the above which I saw in an old thread for Able group. The reason I have quoted the above is because I have just experience a similar issue, if not worse. Back in December the boiler in our flat spring a small leak. Call Able, an Eng came out, credit card details given, call out charge taken then he says it needs this and that. he was told to proceed, as it was urgent and he then spends 3 hrs working on the boiler. He hands over a bill for £270 which is is then deducted immediately from my card. He then stated he needed to come back with a new thermostat, which he then popped out to get......never saw him again. Like the above, the excuses then followed that his van was off the road etc etc... We have called ABLE many times to ask them to resolve the issue but we are still waiting. Now they say they dont have another engineer and we should contact someone ourselves. WTF???? This group are a [problem]. Something needs to be done. What can be done? This will happen to many others unless they are exposed. Any help or advice welcome. thanks Debs.
  13. Hi, Life is full of issues and only this forum eases the pain:) Here's my problem: Back at the end of December 2012, i had a pipe burst in the bathroom, at which i called the Able Group emergency number and booked a plumber to come and fix the burst pipe. The plumber arrived within 2 hrs, saw to the problem, replaced a plastic fitting, paid him £150 through credit card. Everything was fine up to today when the same problem happened again. Switched off the mains water supply and on closer look the same fitting as per plumber failed. So rang Able Group, spoke to a customer services advisor confirming my case and what had happened. The response i got was to wait in all day, and that i would receive i phonecall confirming the attendance of the plumber to assess the situation and if at fault will be fixed free. Now that conversation took place at 9am and its now 8pm and no further calls or communication took place. Naturally i am fuming as i have been home almost all day with no water and had to resort to friends and water bottles.I do not know what my legal options are: So what is/are your advice? a) Request chargeback and re-book a plumber from somewhere else b) Ring Able Group and complain + complain to the Trading Standards Any help ideas are welcome (and sorry if the above is long winded) Thanks

  16. Hi All any and all advice welcome on this please.. I was working for a Local Gov Auth, and had been since 2006. however since 2008, i was subject to bullying in the workplace which caused all sorts of stress, management where told but didn't do anything...i was told just to keep recording the instances and they would look into it. as a result of the stress i ended up in hospital for a mystery stomach illness several times, that has now been linked to the stress. in January last year i was subject to more bulling, this not only breached the anti bullying policy but also the dignity at work policy. of which i ended up being off sick for 6 weeks, i had to see a councilor and was unable to return to work until this was done. whist i was off sick, i had a meeting with my manager and he agreed that the 2 policies had been breached. the offender was not disciplined in anyway, instead a job was created of which moved me from the roll i was doing and which later transferred me from the authority the transfer has worked for me, i now enjoy working for the new company and i have not been off sick at all, and i have no work stress. would i have a claim for damages on this. many thanks for looking Lets

  24. I would like to alert anybody that may be considering buying double glazing units, because dialling ABLE GLAZE LTD could be a very costly experience. ABLE GLAZE LTD are an Essex based company who carry out Double Glazing Repairs and also Door and Window locks repairs. They advertise their business NATION WIDE in the THOMSON LOCAL DIRECTORY. I contacted ABLE GLAZE LTD and asked for a quotation they then phoned their North West agent from their Essex headquarters, who came to measure up. My wife accepted their quotation of £520.00 PLUS vat = £624.00 and gave them an order for 10 doubleglazed units. Four small and six medium units. ABLE GLASS LTD then phoned their North West agent to order the glass. Coming home from my work that day I noticed that my wife had left a note with the quote saying that she had ordered the units. I was not comfortable with the price and phoned ABLE GLAZE LTD, you can guess how the conversation went, which included a promise to put ABLE GLAZE on this Consumer Forum. After half an hour a 10% discount was offered, at 45mins a superior employee offered a15% discount, that was their final offer or I could cancel the order, but that would have cost me £312.00 lost deposit. Throughout the conversation I repeatedly asked for the name of the company that was actually making my units, and they consistently refused, but having taken much of their time over the phone they eventually gave me the companies name. I phoned the Glass Company that was making the units and curiously asked for a quotation for 10 double glazed units - they quoted £181 plus VAT =£ 217.00. Unbelievable! I was speechless. the local glass company in the north west sold my order to ABLE GLAZE LTD who are based in Essex for £217.00 vat included. ABLEGLAZE LTD, who have made nothing, wanted to charge me £620.00 including vat. That would leave a difference of £407.00 I would have been paying, if it wasn’t for challenging ABLE GLAZE’S original cost , just because they made a phone call. ABLE GLAZE LTD who advertise their services in the THOMSON LOCAL DIRECTORY gave me the impression that they are riding off the back of the NATIONS local GLAZING COMPANIES, and it looks like from our experience that they are using them as CASH COWS . I hope that this post will save somebody hundreds of pounds by making them aware of ABLE GLAZE LTD, who will be advertising in your THOMSONLOCAL and using one of your local glaziers that you could actually phone yourself. So the choice is yours , will it be ABLE GLAZE LTD you phone, maybe you would like to receive one of their quotes, like we did, or one of the many others glazing firms in your area, to compare them first?
  25. Hello all. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I'm sure if any of you have had this condition or any knowledge of it, you will appreciate just how painful and debilitating it is. Having this condition, means that standing and walking is extremely painful and on some days is impossible at all and I literally have to crawl on my hands and knees to get about my home. The condition usually takes around 18 months or so to heal. The condition is worsened by standing and walking on hard surfaces. I work for quite a large national company and have done so for over 7 years. The problem however, is my job involves standing and walking for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and the flooring we have is a very basic, worn carpet with no underlay and as such sits directly on concrete (it's the cheap carpet squares you buy and put together - this has been there for around 6 years). As a result of thi,s I spend most my working day and then in the evening in total agony (some days are better then others but most are very painful). My manager is aware of my condition but hasn't really spoken to me about it or made any suggestions regarding what could be done to help (only me asking him if I could wear black trainers instead of shoes - which he agreed to). If I am off work for 3 periods in any 6 months, then I will receive a verbal warning and if it continues, then it escalates upto and including dismissal. I was off last week and a couple of months before that so if I take any more time off then I will be disciplined. This is something I desperately want to avoid and is why I have been going through literally agony on a daily basis. Okay, There are other duties that I could do but they are currently being done by other members of staff and knowing the politics (i.e. the sniping that goes on behind everyone's back, etc), no one would be very happy to do the work that I am currently doing and me doing theres. Despite working there for the length of time I have, I'm worried about rocking the boat especially in view of the current job market. However, at the same time there seems to be no appreciation of the pain I have to go through whilst others (in a different role) are able to sit on a chair all day. Am I able to request a review of my duties? Would HR at least be obliged to listen to my concerns? Or is the most likely scenario be that I will just have to put up and shut up and if the condition worsens, leave my job (this is something I desperately need to avoid as I have a young family to support). Thanks for any help that you can give.
