  2. Hi, Appreciate any advice with the following please. Driving from Kent to Tyneside stopped at Leicester Forest East at 6pm had a coffee fell asleep and left at 9pm. It was dark so no recollection of any signage being displayed. I have now received the first letter asking for £100 but discounted to £60 if I pay within 14 days. I feel miffed as it was late and I was as tired and the car park was empty. What is the best couse of action? I fear that making an appeal to PE will just be rejected or should I just ignore the enevitable PE threatening letters which will follow. Regards Brassica

  5. Well there i was Tawnyowl just roosting in the canopy of a local tree. The sun was shining a gentle breeze blowing from the South. Everything was as it should be. As usual from time to time i checked the weather forums when horror, the headlines:!: I nearly fell from my roost. Not that you'd know it if you're in Northern England or Scotland, but it's been a stormy 24 hours. The thunderstorms have brought over 13,000 lightning strikes across southern Britain and the Channel, with more to come through the remainder of the long weekend and into next week. https://www.netweather.tv/weather-forecasts/news/8933-stormy-uk-weather-13000-lightning-strikes-and-more-to-come so you can see what may be heading your way. Then i will continue. https://www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#x=;m=sat;r=0;t=2;s=0;o=0;b=;n=0; Where was i up to,oh yes.As far as i know we are still in Spring but nearing Summer. Looking around over the last few weeks i have seen due to many reasons the possibilities of a summer like 1976. If you were around this was a summer to remember,i hope i have the year right. It was blistering hot for many weeks. Bacardi and Coke etc. Tunes like I Recall a Gypsy Woman, well i do not recall much of that summer it must have been the Bacardi was a tune around along with Dont go breaking my heart-Elton John-Kiki Dee along with the Bee Gees-You Should Be Dancing tunes like those. Well just thought i would pop in start a thread on summer 2018. See what develops as the summer goes by,and of course it keeps me rambling away about something. Some of you must have been woken by the thunder and lightning for sure. Go on tell us what it has been like where you are. And of course recollections of summers gone by. Old Tawnyowl, off to my roost to remember years of summers gone by. Charge your quills dip in ink and let a memory of yours free. Or a pencil or pen if no quills available. Bye. Tawnyowl.

  11. I've just been glancing through a worksheet provided by my local council on the new GDPR rules. One of the guidance notes states that: "You must tell people in a concise, easy to understand way how you use their data." It also states that "consent" for your data to be used in different ways must be freely given, pre-ticked boxes will not be sufficient. i.e. a seperate consent is needed for each type of use the data is intended to be used. So...where the DVLA is concerned I am quite happy to give my consent for a record to be kept of when my car is taxed, insured and MOT'd. However I do not give my consent for any personal details, such as registered keeper, to be given to any third party. I wonder how this would stand up when the new regs become law on 25th May 2018?
  12. On the 13th of Jan 2018, changes came into effect to stop companies adding on fees for people using a card to pay with. I was under the impression that this was now illegal. The other day I went into a Premier Stores franchise and bought a few items, came to less than £7... But when I went to pay, the price had jumped to £7.17... I queried my it had gone up and was told there was a 50p charge for using a card. I pointed out that this was now illegal, but they were adamant they were allowed to do it. I told them under no circumstances was I accepting it and that they'd lost my business... and left. I then left feedback/reviews online to warn others. But what 'exactly' is and isn't allowed now? I read that one of those takeaway delivery apps that used to charge extra for card payments as now simply extended the charge to 'ALL' types of payments, and that's supposedly legal as they're branding it a delivery charge rather than a 'card fee'. If the shop is acting illegally, where do I report it?
  13. I have had a 2x Barclaycards since 1994. I have asked Barclaycard regarding PPI but have not got anywhere with them. I raised a complaint on their website in 2016 and received a letter rejecting the claim in Jan 2016. I didn't respond after that. I received a letter in November 2017 saying I may be able to claim on the Plevin case ruling. I did this and they said they would re-open my original case from 2016. I have not heard anything from them and rang them again on the 2nd Jan 2018 they said they were treating this as a new case and there was no time limit for them to investigate the case. I received a further letter dated 3rd Jan saying that they couldn't provide a decision due to the volume of cases they had received but I could contact the ombudsman as some time had passed since I first complained. I do remember filling in a leaflet and ticking a box for PPI but nothing was ever explained to me about the insurance. firstly do I have a case to claim back PPI and as I didn't respond in 6 months have I missed my chance if re-claiming the PPI I paid.
  14. Can any Southwest Water customer legally be issued a debt demand and then be taken straight to Court for a CCJ with no defence ? Southwest Water debt letters and their CCJs again, they seem to be the bane of people's lives. Hi, to save starting a new thread I'll use this for Southwest Water "debt", which looks to be a Southwest Water Christmas [problem] . An elderly member of my family lives in a retirement complex, and received a demand for a Southwest Water debt, with a County Court claim (leading to a CCJ) just before Christmas 2017 (dirty trick really, there was no time to defend it). She's usually very good but she's somehow upset these 'people'. It seems she received a Southwest Water demand letter for over £200 which apparently was for the year. I know she's always paid her bill at the Post Office, so the SWW demand and the resultant CCJ are a mystery. Today the Court letter came and she's now got a CCJ for six years; obviously she admitted the "debt" either to save herself trouble or out of some sense of duty. The same trick was played on a neighbour last year, just before Christmas. My conclusion is to beware.

  16. Sent off prelim letter with compound interest spreadsheet and VERY quickly they responded with a cheque for £276 with usual blurb about being in line with OFT ruling and fees reduced to £12. Do I now sent LBA mentioning Limitations Act as I am claiming fees from 2010 to 2012 and whatever I can find that seems relevant (already pointed to a very successful case which I will take time to re-read). Do I also accept cheque as a part-payment or not? When doing my POI (eventually) do I just leave the spreadsheet as it is currently showing but put that I have already received the amount above - my reasoning is that they will still owe me the interest on amount received and this is now almost £800 with interest added. They do appear to have given me some interest as total fees only came to £168.

  18. The Financial Conduct Authority has published its consultation paper on plans to bring in a 2018 deadline for PPI claims FCA research shows 74 per cent of people know what PPI is, but some have not got around to claiming yet because of the 'open-ended nature', which the watchdog says has created inertia. The FCA believes that introducing a deadline – alongside a high profile campaign to highlight it – will prompt many into action.
