  1. Sorry if this is in the wrong area i could not find a forum for this one, We leased a vehicle in 2006 which i think was lease purchase and the finance company became very aggressive with us very quickly when we could nto make payments they immediately stuck on admin charges and letter charges then they sent out bailiffs charged around £500.00 then another £400 or so for solicitors costs, we were in full contact wiuth them and did not want any of that just wanted a little bit of time to get sorted. In one month they charged £45 LETTER fee, then 4 days later another £45 letter fee, then 8 days later a £65 letter fee we were just getting further in trouble. We managed to keep the vehicle in the end but paid out loads extra in the process in fees/admin/bailiff charges and solicitor letters/fees. In total i think about £1500 - £2000. Is there anything i can do to try and claw back some of these hurrendous charges? Thank you for any help Bump!!
  2. Hi all, went to see a Merc Sprinter van yesterday and it looked okay. I asked the seller (trader) if everything worked and he agreed. the van was dropped off at my house this morning and I went for a run in it after I had taxed it and insured it. I found the Speedo didn't work and the glowplug light was on constantly. I took it back to the dealer and he couldn't rectify the faults and told me he needed to contact an auto electrican and then get back to me. This afternoon, I have also found the heater is not getting hot, the interior lights don't work & there is no spare wheel. Where do I stand and what time limits do I have, he told me that he would give me 3 months warranty. Thanks in advance.
  3. I was driving in London last week and and was stopped by the police who was standing in the middle of the road, he said there was a warrant on my van or something along that line, I was told to drive into a Car park with a few other cars, I was met by another constable together with a representative from the bailiffs Collect services, they informed me that I owed £500 for an unpaid parking fine some 3 years back, and that I needed to pay £200 there and then, I told them that I only had £60 available, I was told if I did not pay £200 I would have my van seized. I told them that they could not do that as this was my work van and there is some law that says a van with tools etc can not be seized in this way, he said I was wrong and the van has to have been converted/adapted for use, for instance a side rack, that way it could not be taken, he demanded I hand over the ignition keys at which point the police officer asked for the keys so I handed it over. The bailiff gave me a form stating I must now pay £800+ storage to get may van back or it will be auctioned off. I'm I right in thinking they have affected an illegal act in seizing my vehicle in this way.
  4. Hi all, I have just bought a used van from Ebay and went down to collect it yesterday. I paid cash to a business for it, although the owner of the business told me that it was a private sale as he did not want to put it through the books for tax reasons. on my way home last night I noticed the windscreen was cracked and then the clutch went... I immediately sent an email to the seller letting him know but he has not got back to me yet. Does anyone know where I stand with regards to potentially getting him to pay for the new clutch? It is a 9 year old '53' plate van with 100,000 miles on the clock. Thanks, EB.
  5. I run a small business, and have an interesting situation with one of our vans. Back in May a motorist ran into it when it was parked. Some of our staff were unloading it at the time, and we have a couple of independent witnesses, so there is no dispute over who is at fault. The damage is a pretty significant dent in one side. The vehicle was still driveable, but subsequently the clutch has gone. At the time of the accident, we were on the point of replacing the vehicle anyway, and were hoping that the insurers would write it off. Instead they have decided on a repair at a local coachbuilders at a cost of roughly £1800+v. I estimate the most we'd get for the van, in full running order, is £800. At the moment it looks like the repairs to get it into running order would be in the region of £500. (Replacement clutch and a repair to the handbrake, priced from a tame local mechanic, not a main dealer) Obviously spending £1800+ on a scrapheap worth less than half that doesn't make sense. I'm not sure what our options are. The two main courses of action that I can think of are: 1) Try and persuade our insurance company to write the vehicle off. I'd be happy with a payoff of even £500 from this. Not sure of the best way to approach it with them though. 2) Get in touch with the driver, and offer to drop our claim against him in exchange for some cash. We have contact details for the driver, but again I'm unsure of how to proceed with this one. Plus I expect that someone who goes careers round a blind junction at 40+mph isn't going to be the most stable or reasonable person to deal with. I'm open to any or all suggestions as to the best way forward. Thanks!
  6. We bought a van off a friend about 6 months ago for £1000, we gave him £700 when we got it & £250 a couple of months ago, so still owe him £50. In the meantime my husband has been working with him & they both got their tools stolen, tools weren't insured, so had to buy new, didn't have the money at the time, so a local merchant said we could pay them monthly, we've paid £500 off a £1600 bil so far, but the merchant has now put them on our friends account, as we don't have one with them. The friend has been baggering us for the money daily, so we've put our car up for sale, so we can pay him. We went away over the weekend & left the van with tools in, in a mutual friends locked yard, went for it this morning & it had gone, called the police, then found out the 1st friend had taken it & its in him lockup on the same yard (we didn't know he had one!). The police have spoken to the friend & they are saying its a civil matter. Spoke to the so called friend & he said he's keeping it all till we've paid him & he's says we also owe him £1500 for the van & £2500 off a job they did together. The van was only £1000, so only owe £50, put neither of us has proof as nothing written down & paid cash, we have got proof we paid the £500 off the tools. The van is registered in our name & we insure it. Please help, we are desperate. Thanks in advance

  8. Hi I wonder if someone can advise me on what I can do about More Than who have now been delaying any settlement to my claim. Several months ago my van was stolen from our property and ever since More Than have been saying that they need to sit down and talk to us about the events of that day, even though we have told them all the details and sent them all the proof they need to help the claim. They say a Sarah will call to discuss our claim and that we will need to sit down and speak to her in person. We was advised to ring her and when we did there was no answer. We rang and sent email's to this Sarah but nobody got back to us. Due to our business we got very busy around Christmas Season and was only able to call More Than to say that this Sarah has not got back to us. They apologised and said that they will send a letter to us to arrange all this again. However have not heard from them since. I would like to a put a end to all this as we need the money to pay for a new van. How can I move this claim forward? Is there any final letters I can send? Any advice will be much appreciated. Kindest Regards
  9. I bought my Mercedes Sprinter van new 5 years ago and had 3 yearly services with the same garage up to 42,000 miles. For the next 2 years up to 75,000 miles I used a local garage in the NW10 area which came highly recommended {had Astons, Bentleys etc in the garage}.... anyway my van broke down and I had it towed there and have since discovered that I need a new engine. I am amazed to be told this as the van has only 75,000 miles on it. The quotes I have been given by 3 different people in the past 36 hours have ranged from £3,500, then £6,000, then £9,000 and now back to £6,000. What I would like to know is if there is a company out there that can investigate or do an inspection to check that official Mercedes parts have been used and also if I can have the oil analysed as I know that using the wrong oil can mess up the engine and void the warranty. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
  10. So, short story.. I hired a van from Euro Hire Drive. Did all the paper work stuff then went out to inspect the van. Noted a lot of stuff which the guy' seemed' to write down. When I went back with it the guy walked straight to a score & said 'thats new'. It was not. I had told him about it (could't miss it) and he had wrote something down. He now says that he noted damage to the roof. How the hell he could see the roof is beyond me. I argued the case, they said its to get further inspection & they'll check previous 'check in' reports to see if it had been noticed.. I am suspicious because we walked round the van & straight to it. He didn't even look at any other panels. They need to get back to me within 48hrs apparently. I said if they did I'd see them in court. Still waiting on a call back, but here's the tricky bit. They have my signature to say I had inspected the van and accepted the recorded damage. I know 100% it was there when I collected the van & have a witness (my dad). I also have other witnesses who were with me all day & can vouch for the fact that nothing happened to it on the day. Where do I stand?
  11. Hi all, I'm new to this so please bear with me! About three months ago I bought an LDV Maxus (from a dealer an hour and a half away from my home) 90,000 miles and FSH, It had a worn thrust bearing which the dealer said they would sort out, and for an extra £100 change the clutch plate and slave cylinder. One week later I pick it up “We’ll post you the service history” off I go. One week later and problems start Heater stops working Speedo reads 2F8287 miles (fault code?) Bonnet opens on its own Passenger door will not lock Clutch pedal gone soft It goes back and they loan me a transit “We’ll call you” Two days pass nothing. I call them “We’re waiting parts. We’ll call you later today.” Two more days and I phone and get the same response! An entire month goes past with the same thing (I’ve been so busy working I don’t really have time to be chasing) I asked my other half to give them a ring. A few stern words and it’s ready! Arrive and they bring it round. It turns out it was the ECU that needed replacing to fix the door lock! “I’ll show you the bill I’ve got for that” the guy says. I get it and the clutch is biting just off the floor and the speedo still says 2F something. I tell them and the bloke gets really grumpy comes and talks a load of crap, keeps going on about how “trivial” the problems are and tells me the clutch is fine and they are waiting for LDV to call them to tell them how to fix the speedo. Then he bleeds the clutch (By pumping it with the nipple closed so that the pressure builds up and the clutch works okay! I was doing that a month before just to get around!) . “There you go. If it goes again you just call me. Don’t talk to anyone but me.” So angry I’m worried what I might say/do off I go. I get home and the bonnet is open!!!! So all they have done in FOUR WEEKS is the door lock and heater. As I’ve said I’m busy so I left it a few weeks and guess what? The slave cylinder is dropping fluid all over the place and the speedo now says 360864 ?????????? and still no service history. I’ve taken it back again (this time they have given me a VW caddy, not good for carpet fitting!) and they have changed the slave cylinder but when I asked what they would do about the speedo I was told “We were only sorting the clutch, I’ll phone and find out about that” I don’t know what to do now, any advice please???
