  1. New universal credit rules which could leave 200,000 claimants waiting six months for benefit http://www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/7878/ So much for making work pay, eh.....
  2. Looks like Oor Ian has some explaining to do. http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/public-accounts-committee/news/report-universal-credit-progress-update/
  3. Hi guys, hope someone can help me with this. Attended my first Universal Credit appointment today and went through the usual paperwork. I’ve not granted them access to my UJM account and didn’t sign the Claimant Commitment after arguing most of the points. I’ve attached it so I could get some feedback first. I’m especially interested about the 35 hours they quote, (29 in my case) I know this isn’t applicable to the JSA agreement, but does the CC still count as a JSA agreement? It all seems very vague and so I don’t want to get caught out. Any links or further advice would be extremely helpful, cheers in advance. PC.
  4. Is "Universal Jobmatch" DOWN ? I've been trying to log-in all day, as I have to give account of what I've been doing to find work, but everytime I try to log-in it comes up with a blank page.
  5. Universal Credit is a means-tested benefit for people of working age that is gradually replacing tax credits and other means-tested benefits, such as Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published a list showing the local authorities and jobcentres that will begin to deliver Universal Credit between February and April 2015. In the jobcentres listed, Universal Credit will roll out to new claims from single people who would otherwise have been eligible for JSA, including those with existing Housing Benefit and Working Tax Credit claims. If you are a single person and you want to make a new claim for JSA at one of these jobcentres, this means you will have to claim Universal Credit instead. Universal Credit will then roll out to more jobcentres in stages, until national expansion is complete in spring 2016. You can view the list on the GOV.UK website at www.gov.uk, together with a list of jobcentres where Universal Credit is already available.
  6. A leaked staff memo at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) appears to show the government is still struggling to roll out its flagship welfare programme, universal credit (UC), across the UK. The proposals would means that landlords would find out when their tenants are moving onto Universal Credit. http://www.housing.org.uk/publications/browse/data-sharing-and-universal-credit/ Please remember this is only their Submission to DWPs Consultation and within that link is a link to the full consultation document as well as the NHF submission link which is a PDF download.

  10. I went to sign on today and was told that it is no longer sufficient to bring in a jobsearch sheet and print outs of my job applications. The clerk tried to bully me into giving them access to my Universal Jobmatch account but I explained that I would rather not (and the reasons why) so they said that I would have to print out screenshots of my jobsearch activity history instead. Apparently I have to access my Universal Jobmatch account three times a week and look for at least six jobs a week. Does this mean I only have to do three print outs a week and/or whenever I apply for a job? I was previously told that I didn't have to log in to use Universal Jobmatch, so I didn't log in when I used it (I just sent e-mails direct to employers, etc.) and now I haven't got a clue how to fill in the activity history. I have to upload my CV as well. The clerk wasn't very helpful when I asked for assistance so I was wondering if someone could post a typical activity history entry or offer any advice so I know how to proceed and that I am doing enough. I really appreciate any help that anyone can give.
  11. Hi all, I have recently made a claim for UC and received an advance due to the time it would take to process my claim. I then received a call a week ago from the Jobcentre saying there was a discrepancy on my claim form. To claim UC, you musn't have any dependant children, to which I answered NO on the claim form online. There is a drop-down which explains what a dependant is; 'For Universal Credit, a dependant child is a child or a qualifying young person who normally lives with you' At the Jobcentre appointment I stated to the advisor that I wasn't available for work on weekends as I have my 4 year old Son (who lives with his mum), on Saturday and Sunday every fortnight. They have now stopped my claim because they say that my son is classed as dependant and living with me. I have tried to get an explanation of their decision but, as yet, no luck. I have even looked online and at HMRC which states that a dependant is; 'a child up to the age of 18 resident at the applicant's permanent address and maintained by the applicant' I explained that if I was to visit my family or friends and stay overnight every fortnight, would this mean I live with them? Also, I asked that if I was then to claim JSA, would I have to be available for work whenever due to me having 'a dependant child'. "i don't know", was the answer! I am still waiting for the call back but meanwhile, could anybody put me in the picture.
  12. This is my first post so apologies if there is anything wrong with it. I was asked to attend my local JC for a chat about Universal credit as it is being rolled out here soon. I was told I need a bank account with DD etc to pay bills (at the moment I only have a basic one) and that I must open a Universal Jobmatch account or I won't get paid. When I tried to explain that I have bad credit the personal coach said I was 'fighting the system' and that I should stop. They also want me to give them access to it so they can see that I am 'making an effort'. I am on ESA, WRAG and thought that they could not force me to look for work. I am epileptic and cannot use a computer for any length of time (a friend is typing this for me). I have a partner and young child so I am terrified of having no money to pay bills or feed them. Can they insist on my opening a UJ account and what will happen to me if I cannot use it regularly?

  14. Hi, I'm on JSA and currently attending the Work Programme at Ingeus. My question is about my JSA Agreement, I looked through the site yesterday and the replies to a similar question just confused me as there were so many different answers. My JSA Agreement states I have to apply for 2 jobs per week. Yesterday my Advisor at the WP told me I had to apply for 8 jobs per week (3 more per week than I have currently been applying for - I was told to apply for 5 per week when joining the WP). As I live in one of the areas of the highest unemployment in the UK; applying for 8 jobs per week is pretty much mission impossible. I was struggling to apply for 5 per week. I was also told to set my sites lower and apply for entry level jobs! My questions are: is my JSA Agreement still in effect?- I read conflicting advice about this when looking for an answer yesterday. I can't remember if I signed an agreement with the WP Provider but I must have done. Can the Advisor I'm dealing with (who seems to be a right a/hole) get my JSA sanctioned if I'm unable to apply for 8 jobs per week? I will appreciate any replies/advice given. Thanks
  15. Hi I used these brokers several years ago for a remortgage with I Group and then GE Money. I believe I may of been miss old as they advised interest only. I can't find them in business anymore. Is there anything I can do? Any advice would be great!

  17. Hi guys, I made a claim under the new pilot scheme Universal Credit in January 2014. In March I setup a Google Adsense account and linked the account to my Youtube channel, I received a one time payment as I met the $100 threshold on my very first attempt. This has since been put on hold until I sort out proof of address. I then deactivated my Google Adsense account at the end of March as I decided to switch to a Youtube Partnership, I have not received a payment for this yet. Would anybody be able to tell me what I must do with the Universal Credit Benefit and the HMRC? The network itself doesn't deal with foreign tax as they are all American based. I can't disclose the exact amounts I expect to earn on here, but it is nowhere near the amount of a Full-Time job or even a Part-Time 16 hour job per week on NMW. I need to know what I need to do? Would I be best cancelling the partnership and decline any future earnings to prevent a potential worse off scenario? Or would I be better off with the extra money under Universal Credit? I will be expecting a payment at the start of July from both the Partnership Network and Universal Credit. I need to try and sort it all out before I end up in a big mess. Thanks in advance.
  18. Hi Everyone, Am currently finishing at Cardiff university, hence moving back home and trying to cancel my gym membership. Unfortunately when I filled out my gym membership I put down my parents address on the form to match where my bank account is registered. Therefore when I've tried to say am relocating back to this address they've said am registered to that address. Which begs the question why would I be going to a gym 37 miles from my parents house. I have now set them a copy of sky moving house showing I've been living in Cardiff in a rented accommodation and moving the sky back to my parents to try and show am moving. I have my doubts they'll see my point, mainly as they'll just go back to the point am registered at my parents address again. Ultimately I've only got 3 months left on my 12 month contract (£60), but I'd prefer not to have to pay it and see if what they are like after the 12 months. I would show a rental contract for the year but I rented the house through a mate so no contact was drawn up. Many Thanks, Mart
  19. Hi everyone A few days ago a message has come up on Jobcentre plus stating that Universal Jobmatch is coming on the 19th of November, but what is this about? does it mean that if you apply for the job does Jobcentre get notify of it? Just a bit confused over this and what does it involve.
  20. Hello. I'm a Post Work Program JS claimant (I finished the Work Program around two months ago). At my last signing an advisor told me that ticking the consent boxes allowing the JC access to my Universal Jobmatch account and to receive emails from DWP is now mandatory. My understanding is that this is not the case, and that I cannot be forced to give consent to access, due to data protection laws. Has this rule changed recently, or was the advisor lying to me? The information I can find online on the consent issue mostly dates from 2013. Does anyone have any up-to-date knowledge/experience of this? Is consent now mandatory for people who have finished the Work Program?
  21. Hi Ladies and Gents Not sure if anyone has any further information on the UC roll out happening in June across the North West. Could anyone tell me how it is implemented and who is affected first? I don't claim JSA as self employed but do claim WTC/CTC, HB and CTC help as a single Parent. As an existing claimant will I be back of the queue.? Thanks!
  22. My parents have one debt each. One from great universal catalogue which was last paid £15 years ago. The other an old debt about 13 years ago from comet for a tv that had about £100 left to pay but the balance is now over £900 which is now with activ capital. These haven't been acknowledged in this long. Are these statute barred and how do I proceed from here? Thanks
  23. The cost of delivering Iain Duncan Smith’s troubled Universal Credit scheme is £225,000 for each person on it, it has been claimed The project has already cost the taxpayer £612million and has been dogged by delays and IT blunders. Mr Duncan Smith, the Work and Pensions Secretary, had promised one million people would be receiving their welfare payments under the scheme by April this year. But figures show only 2,720 claimants have been transferred onto the Universal Credit so far - a cost of £225,000 per person. The universal credit bundles together the six main benefits - jobseeker’s allowance, income support, employment and support allowance, working tax credit, child tax credit and housing benefit - into a single payment. In September 2103, Mr Duncan Smith told Parliament it would be delivered “on time and within budget”. But the roll-out has been delayed three times and is now only available under a small number of pilot schemes. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/iain-duncan-smiths-universal-credit-3115946#ixzz2u3Wj7V9B Universal Credit: Government's welfare reform ‘may be scrapped after next election’ The future of the Government’s major £2bn welfare reform was thrown into fresh doubt on Wednesday night after it emerged that just a handful of claimants have been enrolled into the new system. The Department for Work and Pensions disclosed that only 3,200 people had been signed up to receive Universal Credit – a fraction of the original target – at a cost of nearly £200,000 per person. The figure emerged amid claims the next government could be forced to pull the plug on Universal Credit, which has already been seriously delayed following IT problems. The new credit, which combines six working-age benefits and credits into a single payment, has been championed by Iain Duncan Smith, the Work and Pensions Secretary, as a way of ensuring the unemployed always have an incentive to find a job. Under his original timetable, 1 million people would be receiving the payment by April, rising to 1.7 million a year later. But the DWP admitted that only 3,200 had been enrolled for Universal Credit by the end of November, nearly all of them as part of a pilot scheme in four job centres in the North-West of England. The vast majority are young single jobseekers, the least complicated category of claimant. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/universal-credit-governments-welfare-reform-may-be-scrapped-after-next-election-9139458.html
  24. Hi, Was told by JC adviser that the JC is no longer giving the books out. So have to use Universal Jobmatch to apply for jobs and record all job search activities. Also have to tick the box to give them permission for access. To be honest, only applied for some jobs in the very first few weeks there and then kinda abandoned it since then. Found it very difficult to use, and sometimes there was no apply button on the website for you to apply for jobs. Also sometimes cannot even login to the website like today where errors appeared when trying to login to the account. The jobs there mostly come from a third party websites like cv library, monster where already have an account. In general just go on to these job hunting websites straight away as they are already signed in on the computer and the mobile phone. First, just would like to know if it is alright to use the website to record job search activities only, or have to use the website everyday to actually apply for jobs. Second, it is alright to just enter all job search activities on the day prior the signing on day? Sometimes have two interviews on the same day and only applying for jobs on the phone, after finishing those interviews and got home just want to have some good sleep. Third, will the information stores on the website like your CVs, personal information etc be there forever? Thanks.
  25. Hi, I started a claim on the 23rd December 2013 and was paid £164 late January. I phoned them today asking for information, and they said that I had earned during this time, which I hadn't. Looking back at my bank statement the company that I was working for over the Christmas period which in this case was Royal Mail only paid me 4 days wages in my last week. Then paid me the Friday's wage early January. So, today I'm £80 - £95 down because of a wage error over Christmas and they said they cannot do anything about it. The amount it has cost in transport to and from the Job Centre, The Work programme, the job clubs and actively seeking work has cost me dearly. That is without dipping in and paying rent on top, which isn't covered by the benefit system, because I'm still at home for the foreseeable future. Is there anything I can do about this? The claim sheet initially said that I would be getting around about £250 ish for the month. By the time next Monday rolls that has been 6 weeks and £164 in total. I don't really understand Universal Credit all that much but the woman on the phone said they count any earnings from the 23rd December to January 23rd as earnings no matter the circumstance. Anything over £111 is 35p to the £1. Should I really be losing out because Royal Mail decided to pay me my last weeks wage before Christmas apart from the Friday? For one days wage which should have come in before Christmas I have lost £80-£90 just on a month and a few days, not including it all.
