  1. I would value all opinions on this please. There is a disabled blue badge holder living directly opposite me in a cul de sac. He has always parked on my side of the street, and had applied for a disabled parking bay, but hadn't heard if it was successful. There are grass verges outside the houses opposite, many of which have been concreted over to make a hard standing to park on. The man concerned still has a grass verge, but no hard standing. I got home on Wednesday night, to find a huge disabled parking bay on his side of the road, directly opposite my parking space. My parking space is on the road, but there are no yellow lines or parking restrictions. If I park in my parking space, this blocks the road entirely, and you could only fit a bicycle (at a push) through the space in between. This would stop all traffic flow through the street and as it is a cul de sac there are no alternative routes. I am of course concerned about general traffic and congestion, but also about emergency vehicles and service vehicles (such as refuse collection) being able to get down the road. In order to make it accessible, they would need to prohibit parking in 4 to 6 spaces to allow vehicles to drive around the disabled parking bay, and parking is already tight. I am writing to the council and the fire service to complain. Can you think of any good points I should include in my letter? Thank you.
  2. Hello All, My partner, kids and I were in an incident back in June last year whereby a large scrap-metal truck crashed into the back of us coming onto a roundabout as he had not been paying attention. He wrote the car off. Complete mess. His insurers (NFU Mutual) have been unable to contact him as he is ignoring all attempts. My partner and I are both using separate firms of solicitors to claim for personal injury as it was quite a severe incident and resulted in my work terminating due to pain in neck and shoulders. My partners solicitors (Wheelers) and insurance firm (Ageas) have both stated that her case has gone "stale" due to NFU being unable to contact the defendant and gain information. However, my own solicitors (Bird & Lovibond) have received notification from NFU that because they are unable to contact the defendant they cannot defend the claim and have admitted liability. I've emailed a copy of this information to my partners solicitors and insurance company but Ageas is claiming that until NFU make a payment to cover their payout (£1200) they will be unable to release her no claims bonus. Is this right? Is there anything we can do? It seems very unfair. I've just bought us a new car but without NCB the insurance is ridiculously high. Has anyone got any thoughts about what we could do to get the NCB back or reduce insurance costs? Thank you!!
  3. Hi, My local council has started to charge £25 per parking permit as the road I live on is part of a residents parking permit scheme. Up until now the permits were free, the scheme was set up to allow residents to be able to park outside there homes as employees from a local bank were taking up many spaces. The council voted at cabinet to charge residents who were already part of a parking scheme in order to make some money and cover costs of administering the scheme. There was no consultation on this and the first residents knew about the charges was at the start of December when the council set letters asking for payment to issue the 2013 passes. Does anybody know if the council were legally obliged to issue a road traffic regulation order (TRO) before they made a change (i.e. starting to charge residents) to the existing parking scheme?
  4. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2295045/Be-lenient-help-boost-trade-Pickles-wages-war-traffic-wardens.html Speaking at the Conservative spring forum at the weekend, Mr Pickle said that current parking rules need to change, indicating that he is considering bringing in new laws to assit car owners and stated that: "Thirteen years of labour's war on the motorist has created an over-zealous culture of parking enforcement" and that: " a rigid state orthodoxy of persecuting motorists's out of their cars, with no concern about its effect in killing off small shops"
  5. Hello, I am new to the forum and I'm hoping to get some advice from you good people out there! I have had a hand delivered letter from a bailiff stating that the have called to execute a warrant issued by Northampton COunty Court They claim to be authorized by a court under the enforcement of road traffic debts (certified bailiffs) Regulations 1993 (Amendments 2003) To remove our vehicle/household effects to satisfy an unpaid penalty charge notice due to the council. They say that I need to contact them within 24 hours or they will attend at any time of day or night to impound vehicle/remove goods. 1. I don't know what the fine is for, as I cannot recognize the reference no from any correspondence 2. Since being made redundant I have very low income and I don't have enough for me and family or able to pay even 1p for this if it is valid. The chances are there is a debt somewhere but I cannot find any correspondence in relation to it. 3.I have recently started a business which is highly dependent on the car, cannot afford for them to take it away! Desperately need good advice can someone help please! Thanks in advance
  6. hi, i was convicted of a drink driving offense in 2003. From where can i get the details about the date of conviction? i forgot the date and i need it for home office application. Thank you
  7. A few days ago I made a silly mistake and turned into a one way road the wrong way! I realised my mistake almost straight away and pulled over to wait for a safe spot to do a U turn and correct my mistake, I was about 10 yards inside the junction. At this point a PCSO came running over to my car, screamed "You are going to get some points for that" at the top of her voice and then got onto her radio/phone device and asked "any officers near xxx street free to write a ticket" At which point a gap opened in the oncoming traffic so I did a quick U-turn and drove off in the correct direction. Should I be worried about a nasty letter in the post or a knock on the door? She never instructed me to stay, advised me I was being detained or asked for name address details. TIA Mat
  8. It is my understanding that there is a law, part of RTA, which states that drivers MUST drive on dipped headlights in poor weather conditions. I have just been advised that this rule is only when visibility is less than 1/4 mile. Can anyone quote which section of rta this comes under?
  9. Hi, I'm new to this forum. I need some advise. I sold a car two months ago and have received the new owners traffic offence fine they committed. I have return the paper work stating I sold they car but its been rejected, stating I have not supplied any evidence for proof of sale. I have appeal it this and my appeal is next month. When I sold the car I signed the V5 log book but gave it to the new owner to sign,it was a present of this wife and so she couldn't sign it for me to post it off there are then. Unfortunately they signed and sent off the V5 2 weeks later, stating it was sold then, after the fine was issued. I have written to the DVLA stating the date of sale is incorrect and asked for it to be changed. Technically I have no other proof I didn't own the car when the offence was committed. The new owner has refused to accept liability, has not paid the fine even though I have contacted them and sent them the paper work. All I have is a letter from the DVLA with a copy of the V5 with my signature backing my version of events, and a few txt messages from the new owner agreeing the price of sale. The car was advertise on Ebay, he didn't win but contacted me within 5 minutes of the end asking to buy it, so i have a record of this, just no actual receipt on the day. What are my chances of winning this case if the DVLA do not update they records to prove I was not the owner? Should I cut my losses and pay the **** bags £130 fine, I am so :mad2: ****ed off about this!!!
  10. Drivers refunded after traffic wardens issued fines for cars parked on snow-covered double yellow lines Read more: - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/drivers-refunded-after-traffic-wardens-issued-fines-for-cars-parked-on-snow-covered-double-yellow-lines.html
  11. Hi all, Interesting thing happened this morning. Me and my wife were approaching a zebra crossing and we could clearly see a group of old people showing no signs or interest in crossing it. So we carried on and crossed it, as we crossed onto the black and white lines a traffic warden very quickly stepped onto the crossing as if to walk into the side of my car. My wife was like WTF and was startled by it. I look in my rearview mirror and see that hes taking a photo of my car as we drive on. I now presume i willl get a ticket for failing to stop at zebra crossing. This traffic warden did this on purpose, he didnt stop or give any sign as too wanting to cross, he just jumped out as we were already on the crossing. Any advice as to how to procceed, can they give me a ticket for this nasty trick he played ?
  12. A Traffic Signal camera that has recently had lines put in front of it to signal that it is being changed into a speed camera. There have been no signs put up around it to say that it is being changed into a speed camera but on my way home last night it flashed me going through it when the light was on green. I was exceeding the speed limit which leads me to thinking that it is now a speed camera. If a camera has changed use from a traffic signal camera to a speed camera do the signs need to be changed to make the points/fine enforceable?
  13. Hello all, I parked on a yellow line yesterday (4th June) and was issued a parking ticket. Although the sign said Monday to Saturday, I was always under the impression that it was OK to park on a yellow line on a bank holiday. This seemed to be the case for plenty of other cars on the same street as well. I've taken a look at the council's website and it turns out that this is a common myth... The only part that seems to be in my favour is that the traffic warden was definitely in an unmarked vehicle and possibly plain clothed (I'm not entirely sure). Do I have a case here or should I just pay the fine? Thanks in advance, Sue
  14. As the coffin was being lowered into the ground at a Traffic Warden's funeral a voice from inside screams: "I'm not dead, I'm not dead! Let me out!!!" The Vicar smiles, leans forward sucking air through his teeth and mutters: "Too late pal, the paperwork's already done"
  15. so I got a call this morning from my mother who's had a letter from Worthing council bailiffs delivered to her house for some reason, she opened it under my instruction and I was staggered to hear that I owe £400 on a parking fine from last year! obviously I knew nothing about the fine in the first place, I sold the car last september and this has obviously been rattling about in the system since then! I moved at the end of last year too so this probably hasn't helped matters! sadly when i moved I used my Mums house as a forwarding address as I was between places and didn't want post going missing so the new people have more than likely supplied it to the bailiffs which is fair enough but what do I do? I haven't had any correspondence on this up till now and all of a sudden BAM £400! I don't mind paying the fine etc but clearly most of this is unfair bailiff charges! I'm Worried! any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance
