  1. Because I was sanctioned from the Job Centre for being ill and cancelling an appointment I was sanctioned from the Job Centre. This sanction lasts 6 months. And I was not allowed hardship payment even though I live on my own. I think they got my address mixed up with my mum's. I changed my address weeks ago. But when the guy phoned up he, asked me my details. And I gave him my current address. He said 'that's not what I have on my screen'. I thought that I was declined because of that. I have a dog with me and don't have enough money for electric and gas. The council will pay rent. £50 of it. My rent is £400. Even if I am made homeless the hostel in town you have to pay for. I have only 70p in the bank. I brought food, electric and gas with it. I don't have enough money for clothes. I have looked for work but can't find anything. I hear people are getting sanctioned everywhere. For little things. I have been looking for work for years. The same excuse, no experience, no job. I have been declined so many times. I don't even have money for interview clothes. I wear clothes that are too small for me. And I am wearing my mum's sandals. Because I was in the middle of looking for shoes when I got sanctioned
  2. Hi All, Following my previous post, I applied for JSA and was awarded it, having quit my job due to misconduct (avoiding being dismissed). 10 weeks after being Awarded the full contribution based JSA I've now been hit with a 6 week Sanction for "leaving without good cause". In the time since I resigned, I've been under going treatment for Severe Depression and Anxiety. I've also been diagnosed with BiPolar Disorder which my doctor and Psychiatrist believe led to the problems which resulted in me losing my job. The question is, can I request that they reconsider the decision given the new information? or do I just give up and have no money for the rest of the 6 week period? Can I also request a hardship payment? Many thanks for your help x
  3. Hi, hopefully someone on here will be able to help me please? Me & my partner are joint claiments on income-based JSA (she is main claiment) we have been given a 4 week sanction because she apparently didn't attend a work programme appointment, she did go but her advisor changed the time till the afternoon to coincide with another appointment at the same place. We had a letter a few weeks ago saying she had apparently missed it & to contact the JC with a reason which she did & was asked for the name/contact details of her work programme advisor so it can be confirmed, so we thought it had been sorted... until today. After speaking to the advisor it turns out the JC haven't even rang to confirm the appointment was attended & have sanctioned, been told to appeal & to get the advisor to write a letter to confirm appointment was attended but the work programme aren't allowed to write letters & after telling this to the JC they have said well it's not the JC staff's job to get it confirmed so they won't ring you need a letter! which i can't get cause there not allowed They have also stopped 100% of our money:-x Is this right surely both shouldn't be punished for the so called mistake of another, i have always been led to believe that JSA is paid at a reduced rate if one member of a joit claim is sanctioned:???: I understand the housing benefit being stopped due to change in circumstances but i think i'm right in thinking that will be back-dated as have't got any other income. Sorry for the long post but hopfully somone can please help us.. Thankyou in advance
  4. i've just signed in to my emails and discovered a company had invited me to attend interview last friday, it's not a vancancy i was matched to by my advisor but i did apply for it off the directgov website. will the jobcentre find out and if so will i get sanctioned? please help, advice needed
  5. What happens if you sign off before a sanction is refferred? I went to sign on today and the advisor decided I had not done enough to look for work. After much argueing I filled the page in and signed off will the sanction still be refferred? I am sick and tired of having to justify myself all the time. I even have a job to start in Jan but they still saying I am not doing enough!

  7. I came out of the army in may 2009 due to a knee injury, all is fine now im back to full health, in the meantime I decided to sign on because i only thought it would be 6-8 months till I'd be back in the army. I ve had 2 sanctions before for missing work programme even though no letter was sent out telling me when and where it was????!!!! Since then i have had no problems until last week, i signed on as normal my entire job search was filled in i look for any job to tie me over until i can go back to the army. From the start this woman's attitude was rotten!! I havnt been in work for 3 years because of all the problems with my knee i didn't want to claim disabilty or sickness because that will haunt you the rest of your days the way people on benefits get scapegoated these days, an it was just an injury i wasn't incapable!! She looked at my job search which every section was filled in!! She found one job at toys r us and asked me if i applied for it i said yes, she then said if she was to call them would they have my form i said yes, she then said i dont think this is true im putting you up for sanction i don't believe you have been doing enough!! my entire job search was filled in i sign on on time and i go to every course they send me too an this is still not enough!!!! I felt it was a personnel attack as ive never been spoken to like that in the jobcenter this woman just seemed irate and very unprofessional and rude. Im very very very stressed about this as it a couple of weeks before Christmas i already get underpaid on my housing benefit which i have to top up form out my job seekers which im now not getting, i have no food an no one i can turn to for finacial help. I m pointing out now that im not a scrounger i actually go back into the army in January 2013 so at least im lucky to be getting my old job back, I could completely understand if a person didnt do a job search or didnt go to a course ect ect but i apply for 10 to 15 jobs a week and go to there work program how is this justified and how is it going to benefit the country in the long run, im kinda lucky to have a job to start but those who dont i really feel for and i can see crime rates going through the roof if this carries on!!! does anybody have any advice or been down the same road?? i have 3 job interview next week and have to swear in at my local armed forces office i know cannot get there as i have no money so bassicly this system is keeping me unemployed im at my wits end even people who are sorting thier lives out are being punished this is wrong!!!!
  8. Hello Forums! I just found out today that I have been sanctioned for 4 months due to leaving my old work voluntarily. I know what many of you may think about me (ungrateful...........) but I was working only 14 hours and was racking up debt such as rent etc. I started a job via the future jobs fund program (2010), complete waste of time personally but that's another thread all together! I was hired for a 25 hr/week for 6 months. During my future jobs fund placement I was told my contract will be extended after the 6 months period. After the 6 months placement completed I was offered a contract for 14 hours. At this point I knew 14 hours was not enough to cover my basic bills such as rent, council tax and power & gas. So I tried making a new claim for JSA over the telephone and was told I would be sanctioned 100% as I was refusing employment being offered to me. OK, fair enough I thought and accepted the 14 hour contract. After a year and half of racking up debt such as rent etc as well as getting no help with housing or council tax benefit, I just gave up! So I quit my job, took a step back in life and moved back in with mum a few months. I was signing on for two months without further information request from myself or my ex employer. I still have a great out of work relationship with my old line manager who confirmed nothing was ever received from JCP. Then today....news of the sanction was given to me while attending to sign! I have not had my letter yet explaining exactly why but should JCP not have investigated this further? Asked for proof of debt, spoke with old employer etc... The only time I got to explain myself was on the back of the claim form where I only put abbreviated details. Did they expect me to keep living in the red? I know I mentioned I recently moved backed in with mum but that was a last resort. My problem is not so much with the sanction itself TBH. Its how it was handled. I know I have did wrong, I did give up a paying job, i was expecting it, but I would have preferred them taking into consideration my financial problems if I kept working as well as the length of time I continued to work at 14 hours. Its not as if I never looked for work or kept asking when my hours would go up. Any help and experiences would be very helpful. This is my first sanction:(
  9. Hello, When I originally looked through the various docs for UC, the sanctions (that could be) placed on ESA WRAG was for £71, so that meant you would still receive at least part(component) of the benefit. Looking now at the current "UC chapter 3" I see that for such as missing an appointment can lead to a sanction of full benefit. The part I had seen before, where only a % of benefit would be lost on sanction for those on ESA WRAG as been moved to those who only need to attend WFI (lone parent with child aged over 1 but under 5) I have not seen anything mentioned anywhere about that. Anyone know of that change? The online doc is here Page 30
  10. Hi, new here and first post so be gentle I have been on A4e for a few months and haven't had much luck with getting a job. However i've still always turned up to every single appointment and job search they have given me. So it was a surprise that i got a letter saying i have a doubt against my claim for missing a job search appointment on the 3rd of September. Reading the letter it said i was informed on the 28/8/2012 of the appointment. Now this is false, i did have to see my advisor but she didn't tell me about the appointment, the only thing she handed me was my letter telling me of the next one-to-one. What's worrying me is how can i prove they didn't contact me? To be fair my advisor wrote me a letter saying i have never missed a session before and i included that in the evidence i supplied to the DMA but i'm still worried. I haven't had the decision yet but i really can't afford any sanction and have hardly slept. Anyone have any similar stories of being told about appointments when they didn't? Any help is appreciated.
  11. I've posted this elsewhere but I know some people who work for the job & benefits department post on here so am after some advice. I was made redundant in January and after a few months umemployed I found a suitable job through an agency and applied, I got called for an interview by the company the same day, I got told the original job advertised had gone (Since come to learn it never existed) and that another vacancy was available, minimum wage rather than £8.50, 43hrs PW rather than 39 and doing a job I'd never done before and wouldn't off applied for had I know all this, but I got offered the job on the spot and had to accept or I'd get a sanction. The day I started I got the contract to sign and also found it had an overtime clause that it had to be done when required and it has worked out 4-6 hrs per week, again I couldn't decline the job or I'd of got a sanction so the 39 hrs per week advertised has turned into 48hrs on average. But the problems don't end there. I am being bullied on a daily basis by a supervisor, My supervisor finds fault with everything I do and makes smart remarks daily trying to get a response, I asked him a few weeks ago what his problem was, He squared up to me like he was going to fight, I backed down and he walked away and called me a "F**king B**tard" I was in shock to be honest as I've never been spoken to like that. But the smart remarks continue daily. I recently got marched into the office and got a verbal warning for leaving my machine on at lunch time, It was the first time I ever did it so someone has obviously reported me for doing it, the boss said "Do it again and you wont be here" in an aggressive tone. I am just totally fed up with this, I am at the stage now where each and every morning I have diarrhoea with the thought of going in there, and each and every day brings its own drama, I can't get over to sleep at night, I wake at the crack of dawn, at nights and weekends it is all I can think about, Since I started working in there 3 months ago I have lost a stone and a half, I can't stick this much more but don't know what to do or where to turn. I decided enough was enough and went to my doctor with the intention of getting signed of sick for a couple of weeks, My doctor diagnosed anxiety and depression but said the root cause of this was work, so meds or time off would not work, the only cure was to confront HR. So I did, I went into the HR department and explained all, the guy was very sympathetic and said he would run all past the boss and get back to me with an outcome. The following day he got back to me and I got told how valuable a worker this supervisor is, how experienced he is, how long he has been there, and working in a factory environment is stressful etc etc, So basically told to get over myself and damn all was done about it. So you can see why I don't want to do over time and to be honest I don't want to be there at all, it is effecting my health and I want out. I have a wife and 3 kids to support, I have been looking for another job since I started but as yet I haven't even got an interview so getting another job isn't a way out, I want to leave, but would I get a sanction on these circumstances? Its not even about the bullying, its the work in general, the environment, I hate it all and had it been advertised the though of applying would never of crossed my mind. What do I do?
  12. Hello,I attend the a4e work programme, and I missed an appointment in june,as I was at hospital, because my mum was seriously ill,and I had to be shown how to tube feed her,I received 4 letters off them stating the same time and date,I explained why I couldnt be there, and have now got a sanction till may 2013? I havent had any money since the 24th july and have been into the jobcentre and filled out all the forms for hardship and appeal against a decision, all of which have been disallowed, they told me to appeal, which I have done but avent heard anything, all they have said is I get child tax so thats enough to live on,but one of my children has just turned 16,and my child tax has now stopped, and child benefit,I have 2 children,16 and 15. The 16 yr old has recently taken an overdose, because Im unhappy, its making us all ill,how are you supposed to live on £21 a week, with 2 growing teenagers....any advice will be much appreciated.
  13. If your JSA is sanctioned you first submit a reconsideration form, then if that is rejected an appeal form. So i submitted my reconsideration form 2 weeks ago, i forgot to ask at my signing today if there was ny news though, but I've heard anywhere between 2 weeks and 6 months. But I've also heard that the reconsideration should be quite quick as it's the appeal that takes forever. I was also told that i would receive something in writing as to the decision, but i also appealed for hardship and was told over the phone when i was inquiring about something else that the hardship request was rejected even though i have nothing in writing about the hardship as of yet. I guess they will come to a decision one way or another but just wondering time scales? Well all these new(i assume) JSA sanctions for missing back to work appointments will certainly keep the DWP on their feet, that's for sure they must be inundated with paperwork.
  14. I'm facing a sanction because I turned down a below minimum wage job (£2 an hour). This is a door to door sales job with an unkown company that reeks of [problem]. The hours are 40 a week and it isn't enough to cover my expenses. I got a call from my training advisor who told me they are raising a sanction on me and informing job centre I've turned down an opportunity. I asked to speak to the manager and she said because I've been out of work what's the chances of me finding any job and that if I made commission I'd be better off. I told her if I get a sanction I won't have any money for food for six months and she didn't give a damn by the tone of her voice. I said it's wrong this isn't helping me I can't rely on commission and you're forcing me into a minimum wage job, you shouldn't even be making people go for these "jobs" of unkown companies that have no reputation, no reliability. I'm scared I'll get a sanction and be out on the streets, I heard the job centre are ruthless..
  15. After 2 years of claming benefits as a lone parent i finally get myself a job and the jobcenter bascially do me over. On 30th june this year i was told because my son had reached the age of 6 i wasnt allowed to claim income support and would be moved over to JSA as part of that i had to look for work so thats what I did. I got the claim sorted applied for work and had an interview it went well but at the time a decision had not been made. On the 12th July i had to attend my first signing day and was told i had an appointment on the 20th June to find out about the help and support available to me. For some strange reason i got my dates wrong and on the 25th June i rang the jobcenter to ask what time my appointment was for the 26th i was told i had missed the appointment and now i would need to get a decision from the decision makers. so 26th june arrived i sign on i explain my reason the woman sounds sincere and i tell them it ws simply a case of mistaken dates. on the 2nd july im rung by the company i went to the interview for and told im due to start on the 5th july, great news i ring the jobcenter explain i was to sign off and they said everyting will be sorted and outstanding monies owed. On the 5th after work i contact them again to ask about payment and they say they have sent a payment of £81 to my account i ask about the 4 week run on, the back to work bonus £250 and the in work credits and im told im not eligible because i missed my appointment on the 20th and as a result have been sanctioned. well thats it i go mental, i ask for a forum to be sent out so i can appeal, ive never missed one appointment with the jobcenter before how can they now do this just as i find work, surly a claim for JSA after 2 weeks does not invoke a back to work interview so soon when its normally done after 13 weeks. I have wrote an official letter of complaint to get the sanctioned overturned because quite simply if they refuse to pay the 4 weeks housing benefit run on then im not better off working that i was on JSA and quite simply put i shall beback in there making another claim for benefit on the grounds that the amount of hours worked is not enough to cover my rent and living expenses while waiting for working tax credits and other benefits to be granted. they have done this on purpose whats my chances of getting this decision overturned.
  16. I'm new to forums in general but hoping someone here can help us. My hsuband is on JSA, joint claim for both of us. Recently he was given details by his JSA advisor for a job (he asked for the details as he saw the job come on screen, the fella had not suggested nor insisted upon it) to apply for it. Immediately after signing our car broke down, quite a serious problem, and my husband had to leave the car and get a lift home. The car went to the garage for a week and we were without transport. He had also, in the stress of the situation, left his job seekers' info with the job details in the car, then to forget it was in there. He went to sign on a fortnight later and asked if he could have the details again, explained what had happened and the difficulties he had been experiencing. He ALWAYS applies for way more than the minimum jobs on his agreement and has been refused funding for security license when he has already proven that he has a job in that industry waiting for him once he has done that training. The advisor said 'oh not to worry' and sent my husband on his way. We applied for the post anyway, although we may have missed the deadline by a max of 1 day, and received a reply saying that he did not get an interview for the job. A week later we receive a letter stating that he 'refused an offer of employment' and as such our JSA was being sent for a decision for a sanction. At this point we wrote a letter detailing all of the above. The reply was that we would be sanctioned for 12 weeks. We went straight to the CAB who are processing our appeal (disproportionate terms/length of sanction) and told us to apply for hardship. We have two daughters aged 9 and 3yrs. Hardship was refused because of the 'income we receive for our children' which is tax credits, child benefit and £150 a month maintenance. The hardship we are now in is crazy- our electric suppliers took us to court and fitted a pre-payment meter as we have gotten £400 behind. The water board and another payment which was being taken weekly from our JSA are also taking us to court. we don't have enough food for our children or petrol to get us to sign on, to SEETEC appoinments or to my teaching course and we don't know what else to do. ANY advice would be so greatly appreciated xx
