  1. Hi, I'm new to this. ..I'll try to keep it to the point and not too long winded, but this has been going on for a long time. By the end of 2008 I had been an RBS customer for approx 25 years and had a £500 overdraft from April 2000 which had crept up over the years to £2250. I had been paying overdraft cover on this the entire time. I took ill October 2008 and couldn't work.... .I approached the bank and explained. They told me I had no cover. I had major surgery mid November and was diagnosed with cancer. I stayed in touch and constantly asked if they could at least stop the interest accruing, they point blank refused. I stuck my head in the sand for a few weeks, but decided it was best to get something sorted with the overdraft. I called my branch to make an appt. to see the manager to be told I couldn't speak to anyone as my account had been suspended and already forwarded to their collection agency. I called the collections team and again told them I had insurance on the overdraft, again they said I hadn't. This continued over the next few months.....constant calls and letters demanding the £2250 plus all interest charges etc. By this time Money Matters in Govan were involved, they were also told I had no overdraft insurance. RBS took me to court Sept 2009 and I was ordered to pay them £65.00 per month to cover OD, charges and court costs just short of £4000. October 2011 I was feeling fit to fight and requested bank statements. ...these clearly showed the same fluctuating figure throughout which they were still denying was Overdraft Loanguard Protection. I received a letter on Friday last week stating that they had conducted yet another investigation and I had no insurance. Today I spent most of the day getting through to various departments and now have it in writing from their insurance department that I had been paying Overdraft Loanguard since 2000 and it was cancelled by my branch on 27.7.2009.. ....the same month they closed my account and sent it to their collection people to collect on the overdraft! Sorry to be so blah... ..trying to explain the length of time it has taken someone to admit that this charge I have been harping on about for two years was for insurance. Has anyone had an experience like this? I would be so grateful if anyone could offer advice on what my next step should be. Cheers in advance. Geraldine
  2. Hi guys, So I made a personal loan to a friend for £2,500 on March 8, 2012. There was a contract for repayment in full after 2 weeks with no interest and was witnessed by a third party. This friend was moving cities and opening a new business, so he needed funds for housing/expenses etc. Repayment time comes and apparently his business has failed terribly. He's moved home and nowhere to be found. Won't answer my calls. Will respond via text sporadically saying he will pay in 3 days, then not respond for two weeks. What do I do? In another thread it was suggested that I start with a tracing agent? Then what? My concerns are: 1) I don't have his address or know where he is 2) I know he is dodging his ex-wife for child support, so will most likely not have many assets in his name 3) I've heard he has setup a new company, using his father's name as a Director and paying himself out through the company what do i do?!?!?

  4. hi all... my company was dissolved over two months ago now and i believe that i have paid the majority of my oustandings to the HMRC, I was told by my accountant once the company is dissolved then thats it all the debts are written off as the company is struck off companies house. As far as I am aware I am not in receievership, administration or anything like that. however I did have an overdraft with the bank and that was under a directors guarantee. I was owed two weeks worth of wages which should have gone into my bank account but whatever reason they did not and were bounced back to the payroll. now the bank want the money from their overdraft so i want the money which is held by payroll to offsett them. technically i am no longer trading as a company right now but i am not sure if the bank has just frozen the account (which begs the question if so why didnt the payment go in correctly in the first place) and secondly if it isnt still active where would the money go and thirdly can they pay me the money directly if the account is frozen but can take payments? obviously i would like that money to be offsett against the overdraft which i owe the bank. on a seperate note then ermm... i know longer work for that company but someone else. so that should be okay. if i do owe the hmrc money will they take that money and come chasing after me for anything else i might owe?
  5. Facebook and Google amass 'voluntary' personal data Max Schrems is no luddite. The law student was savvy enough to know that, if he requested it, Facebook would have to release all of the data it has collected on him since he joined. Even he, though, was taken aback by the amount of information Mark Zuckerberg's social network had on him. When his report came back – all 1,200 pages of data – he saw details of friend requests he had ignored; people he had "defriended" and even items he had deleted from his account. Yet everything in his file was information he had voluntarily given. His experience mirrors not only those of Facebook's estimated 900 million users, but those of everyone who has ever googled something, entered personal information into a website or – to some extent – even loaded a web page. Today's headlines on the Government's so-called "snooper's charter" are about new powers for the police. But companies have been using internet users' data for good and bad for years. Google and Facebook are probably the most notable examples of sites that feed off the data their users give them. Both have targeted advertising. For those adverts to be worth the pixels they are printed on, they need users' information. http://www.independent.co.uk/hei-fi/news/facebook-and-google-amass-voluntary-personal-data-7854248.html?origin=internalSearch
  6. Hi Good People, I've been a lurker for some time, but thought I would ask for assistance if you would be so kind. A few years ago I signed a personal guarantee to the sum of £30K for an overdraft with the RBS. Last year through the difficult economic times, sadly we had a winding up petition served & the company was placed into liquidation. The Ltd. Co. at that time had a positive balance, but because the bank didn't act quickly after the petition was published in the Gazette, many standing orders, & direct debits, wages etc came out of the account. After this, despite me phoning them & informing them that a petiton had been served (& by this time granted) it still took at least 3 weeks before they froze the account, by which time the account was left minus £20K, which the RBS Solicitors are now looking to recover via the PG. I have wrote to them explaining the above & await their reply. Some other info, I was the largest creditor (c £150K, followed by HMRC c £50K) I look forward to the replies. Many thanks MGA
  7. I have secured loan with EPF and i have just lost my job. There are only about 5 more payments to make, but it is going to be a struggle to pay them.I know that i will have to talk to them about it. My problem is what would be the best way to approach it?
  8. Hi, I currently have a Barclays Personal Reserve which is costing me £22 every 5 days in charges. I can't afford to pay it off to get back in the black for another couple of weeks, but according to Barclays website, one can cancel it at any time. Does anyone know if I call and cancel it, will I still be charged £22 a week because I'm over the limit? or will cancelling it stop me from being charged any more? (I appreciate I will have to pay it back eventually, and will presumably be charged interest on the overlimit amount, but I'm trying to minimise the cost until I can afford to do so) Thanks Andy
  9. I had a fall in a supermarket around 2 weeks ago, this was due to slipping on a gel filled absorbent strip used to absorb spills. The strip are used to absorb small spills but this had been used to direct water out of the store following a burst pipe. The strip was across the doorway of the store and was being used to direct water out of the store in to the street. When I slipped the arm I was carrying shopping in felt jarred, but because of my embarrassment I went home. I then called the store to complain when I got home. I went to the doctors who told me I could have damaged my rotary cuff and to give it gentle exercise and to see a chiropractor if it continued. I followed this advice and as it had not cleared up I have been to see the chiropractor today. I have just returned from a chiropractor who has advised me that I have jarred my rib and require approx 4 session on it to put it right. This will cost me with today's appointment £150 in total, which through no fault of my own I will be out of pocket for. What should I do to recover this money from the supermarket?
