  1. Hi Folks, I'm a 45 year old male who is at the start of a very long process in rebuilding my credit score after years of poor credit management, pay day loans etc caused by gambling (now in remission!). All my creditors are being paid back on time each month as agreed. In order to help rebuild my credit I have managed to acquire a high interest rated credit card (Ocean by Capital One) with a basic limit of £200. I'm going to be using this card to pay for my petrol each month (no more than £130 per month) and obviously pay off each month in full. My question is simple, I have hea

  3. Hi, perhaps someone here might have some good advice. Southwest Water has just sent us a demand for advance payment for water supplies (probably estimated) , payable in two instalments. Up til now we've always paid weekly or monthly, but we've never trusted direct debits to anyone , and with good reason. Now suddenly Southwest Water want to take nearly my entire pension for two months. What do these people think folk are supposed to live on? I would like to ask if they can demand the whole amount like this, and what can we do? To be absolutely ho
  4. Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question. I worked for a company from approximately May/June 1990 to around March 1992, during which time I had contributions into their pension scheme deducted from my pay. I've just reached 65 and am now receiving my state pension and idly wondered what happened to those contributions, whether it would be possible to get those back, or if I could now legitimately claim a pension (however tiny) from that company? Or is it the case that I've effectively kissed that money goodbye? Any assistance or pointers in the right direc
  5. Hi all, I am after some thought and hopefully some pointers on my late payment charges with Studio. After getting myself in a pickle I am on reduced payments for a few things and most have frozen interest and waive any fees. Due to a zero hours contract I often have to pay my priority bills first. My payment to Studio is £5 a month and no interest is being added. As of today the Debt stand at £120. However i have noted that if I am late with a payment I get charged £12 which means that the debt doesn't go down and another 2 months is added to the payment plan. Say for
  6. In March 2015 I was taken to the local magistrates court for certain council tax bills (briefly, I told the local council where I was living and they refused to update their records [the house was subject to a compulsory purchase order and the council wanted to pretend that the house was unoccupied] until I took them to a tribunal. They then updated their records and billed me for 5 years of council tax). The magistrate refused to grant a liability order for this old disputed council tax. I have paid recent council tax bills and I have a considerable amount of proof that
  7. THOUSANDS of British Gas customers may have had direct debit payments taken twice following an IT glitch. British Gas told The Sun online that less than 1 per cent of customers were affected by the problem. It supplies gas and electricity to over 14million homes, meaning some 140,000 customers could be affected by the fault . A British Gas spokesperson confirmed that a “small proportion” of customers have had direct debit payments twice and that any money taken in error would be refunded. https://www.thesun.co.uk/living/2262624/british-gas-takes-direct-debit-payments-twice-
  8. Hi I am sorry if this is in the wrong place and please move if necessary. Person on esa benefit due to ill health currently in the 'assessment phase' receiving £72 per week. Out of which they are making payments to csa and rent/ctax and food/living costs. Outstanding amount owed to Barclay card and current account with Barclays into which the esa benefit is paid. Barclays have now written to say they will be taking payments, explained as 'setting off' for amount owed on credit card debt. Is this allowed, as a minimum affordable payment offer appears to have been ignored. No amoun
  9. I've come to the end of my year's car insurance, I've moved elsewhere and cancelled the direct debit. Swinton have served me with a default notice. I'm just wondering what everyone's views were as to the legalities of such a move - afterall, I'm not in breach of any payments. Weird.
  10. Hi I only just noticed that £13.99 had been taken from my Santander123 cureent account by Ancestry.com via DD !!!!!! I checked the DD and it states it started on 29/07/16 and i most DEFINITELY did not start/confirm this Direct Debit. Thus far they have taken £13.99 on 29/07/16 and today 02/09/16 !!!!!! How do i go about cancelling this, i can not recall using this service !!!!! I have an excellent credit rating and am more worried about it effecting that. Also i have no details of an account with them, so would not know how to even 'log in' to cancel it on their s
  11. I have got a Mortgage with Natwest on a tracker rate, which tracks + 1.45 above Bank of England Rate. The Bank of England as we know has cut rates on the 4th of August but Nat West keep on charging the same amount, my payments haven't come down. Funnily enough I already had letters from a number of banks (inlcuding Nat West) telling me the interest rate on my savings accounts have been slashed. I called Nat West but was fobbed off with I would get a letter through the post, which I so far haven't had. But they still take the same amount of money for the mortgage of me. The latest pay
  12. Hi, hope for some advise. I paid my road tax via the DD scheme at my local post office back in September and set up the monthly payments via my bank. I have not authorised my bank to stop payments but the DVLA have stopped requesting payments and are now claiming that my car is not taxed. I have had no letters stating wht payments have not been requested and paid as agreed but it would appear that i am being held accountable for the DVLA breaching the DD scheme which seems a bit unfair. Any advice would be appreciated.
  13. Hi could someone help please? OH has had one of his accounts changed to delinquent on his credit file which will effect him for 6 years. The account is for an overdraft on an account he switched. Has been in contact with them the whole time as he has started a new business and been waiting for invoices to be paid. He tried to pay in full over the phone this month but was refused due to the account being closed/frozen. He had to go in branch and pay by cash but could only draw out half from the ATM so this caused more delays to payment. The payment status on his credit f
  14. On behalf of a friend, she need's advice with the following scenario please: She is a 35 year old female with a child. -she is joint owner of a property (about 33.3% share ownership with both her parents), she does not live their nor do they pay her rent for her share in the property. (no mortgage) -she is sole owner of a 2nd property that she currently lives in with her child (mortgaged) Her plan is to rent a property (and rent out her 2nd property) and is not sure how long it will take her to find employment when she relocated and therefore, may need help with rent......(
  15. Hi - not sure which forum this belongs to so will try here. Firstly (I say this first to make the situation clear) I deliberately did NOT sign a contract with these guys because I didn't agree with the terms. I was sent reminders to sign all the way up to the date of the first DD.. and then they duly took the first and subsequent DD payments without the agreement signed. (What is this type of contract called where some basic terms are implied by the exchange of money? "Implied Contract"?) this is for car insurance. My favoured insurance broker uses Close Pr
  16. Hi there I defaulted with a loan with Northern Rock (or NRAM) who then secured a charging order on my home on the 13/3/2007. (My name is the only name on the mortgage and for clarity no regular payments where instructed to be paid) Roll on to now and NRAM have sold the debt onto Marlin who are now hassling me for payments. I got a court letter through the other day which was a "substitution of claimant notice" which im assuming means Marlin now legally owns the debt completely. I've done a search on Trustline and no judgements are showing against me which i
  17. Hello all, Been a while since I've posted; hope you're all well and still fighting the good fight This concerns people who, like myself, still sign on clerically - ie they don't use the electronic data capture pads at the Jobcentre. Keeping it brief, a couple of my JSA payments didn't go through during the past months and I'm convinced this was done deliberately to get me to switch over to electronic signing. The adviser tries to make out it's my fault and that 'these errors wouldn't happen if you used the electronic signing system'. I point out that I've signed via paper
  18. Hi I joined a Gym called Fitspace during the first Month a double payment of £11.99 was made to them . I only realized this when i checked over a week after it was taken out via my bank statements. This indicated to me that it could happen again as I was not contacted by the gym regarding this mistake. I sent a letter to by Bank and to Fitspace stating that the Contract had been breached as the contract stated the first payment of £11.99 will be taken out on the 16th of August 2015. however a double payment was taken out on the 17th of August 2015. I expre
  19. Can the DWP dictate the payment method of which benefits can be paid, ie bank account, post office card account or any other ?..
  20. I have about £1400 of student debt from loans I had in 95,96 and 97. I've always been able to defer. Given that Erudio are taking housing benefit, maintenance, etc. into their calculations that takes me over their income threshold. I sent back the old style SLC forms with a letter stating my concerns and requesting clarification over the new form. They ignored the letter and just sent me another copy of their form. My deferrment period is now up and they've since begun to take payments from my account - without any notice of how much and for how long. It
  21. I have two credit card debts, one of which is the subject of a CCJ some 9 years ago. I have been making payments in accordance with the CCJ and voluntary payments in respect of the other. Both defaults are over 6 years old and no longer appear on my credit reports. The DCA have offered to do a deal and accept less than is outstanding in full and final BUT if I agree does this deal appear on my credit report (as of the date of the full and final payment for a lesser figure) or, as the date of default is over 6 years ago, will my credit history be unaffected if I ch
  22. I am trying to get my finances in order and have been reading up on forums about those who have had successes dealing with DCAs, but unfortunately my accounts don’t seem to make sense. I have four default accounts on my credit file, showing a D sign every single month on my account, but I have three payments from DCA going out of my account two I know why I am paying but PRA I don’t know what its for, and the two bank account overdrafts I have defaults for I don’t know what is happening with them and what to do. Should i send out CCA letters to all creditors including barclays and
  23. Hi All My husband has been made redundant and as such I have contacted all of my creditors to inform them that I’m only able to make token payments until we are back on our feet. I intend to start a thread for each of the institutions as they begin to communicate with me, all of the creditors have been provided with details of my earnings and our outgoings. NatWest have sent me a Formal notice of intention to file a default and to take action to recover debt, I also received a Default Notice in the same envelope dated 15th July 2010 which I only received today 20th July 2010, both o
