  1. My partner's Brighthouse. 2 accounts, totalling £6.37. Missed a week's payment. Charges of £11. That comes under the description of unfair charges as it exceeds the amount of payment missed. Manager utterly refused to remove despite the fact I've had previous charges removed for saying they're unfair (and before anyone says, SAME store). But then again this is the same store that had a manager signed OSC removal form and never removed it....
  2. My wife and I have two Life Insurance policies with AVIVA (taken out in 2002) and I've just realised that they both have Premium Protection attached. I don't remember why we were sold the protection at the time as we were both in secure employment. Could we have been mis-sold this aspect of the policy and could we therefore reclaim the amount of the premium that paid for it?
  3. There has been discussion on whether some jailed for life should be kept inside for the whole of their lifes. Should this be the case, no matter how much it costs or should the government look at other options ? If someone is kept in a maximum security prison for 50 years, that would cost approximately £2.5 million. This is the equivalent of the tax paid by 500 full time workers on average salaries. How would these people feel that their hard earned tax is going on paying for murderers meals, accommodation, plus their funeral costs at the end of their life ? While I do not suppor

  5. My late husband left me two pensions. One with Aviva and another with Standard Life. The terms of the Aviva pension was that 3 years after his death it would reduce by 1/3rd so I was getting £202 per month which has now reduced to £137 per month (wow!) The Standard Life pension was a much smaller one, only £75 per month (even bigger wow!). The Standard Life pension is paid on the 1st of the month. When I checked my bank account I got the shock of my life to find it had been slashed in half to £38 a month. They haven't even bothered writing to me to inform me they were doing t
  6. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a life insurance policy my ex-husband set up with LV in 2005. We were together when the policy when it was set-up to insure me, but with my then husband as the beneficiary should anything happen to me. At the time I didn't realise that it was a life insurance policy that would pay out to him, and I was lead to believe by the advisor who called to the house that I could change the policy beneficiary as it was coming out my bank account. As we stayed relatively amicable after our divorce, I simply forwarded any mail to my ex
  7. Hi I need some advice on a letter I received from Heirtrace in regards to my father. This letter was sent on behalf of Sun life financial of Canada. I'll give a brief rundown of the letter: I am writing to you on behalf of sun life financial of Canada, who has employed Heirtrace ltd as part of a programme to update the contact details of their customers. Heirtrace provides a specialist service to financial institutions, legal firms and other organisations needing to update their customers records, trace missing policyholders and trace the owners of unclaimed assets. Sun life f
  8. I once had a 3G dongle, which persistly crashed and i had many wasted hours having to redo things, so much so i had to either go out with it, or wait for a passing satelite to be favourable to me. I repeatedly complained to 3G, and I asked what happens if I want to end this. In reply I was told if i dont pay £15 at end of the month it would automatically be switched off. This was desperate after months battling with it. It was on a plan, sold to me rather hastily in a car phone shop. So 3G was well aware of the problem, and that i intended to end the use of it. Al
  9. Please help! The other day I was caught scanning something as bananas on the self-checkout when they weren't. I was taken to the back room to see the manager, who decided not to call the police (thank God), but did take a copy of my driving licence and aive me a letter banning me from any Sainsbury's in the country. What I want to know is, will anything else happen to me? The letter he gave me mentioned other people who may be getting in touch for some kind of claim. Also, what will have been done to my driving licence? Am I on some kind of register
  10. My life insurance was cancelled by HSBC due to their fault. When I contacted them, they originally claimed it was done as per my instruction. They wrote a letter to me confirming that after their investigation they can confirm I cancelled the insurance. In the mean time I was not insured an need to fill in a new Health Questionnaire. After several phone calls and they keeping to their version of event, they have now finally accepted that it was an error on their part. In the mean time I have arranged another Life insurance with a different insurer Now my questions are:

  12. Hi, I am new to this so please bear with me, My husband had a life insurance policy with a mortgage for a property he had . This was taken out in 1987. Unfortunately he had some financial problems and his property was repossessed in 2002. We had completely forgotten about this policy with Pioneer Mutual but have come across it whilst clearing out a cupboard. What we would like to know if anyone can help. Could he chase this policy down and see if he has any claim on it or did it die when the property was repossessed . Any help would be appreciate
  13. Hi, I was banned for life from sainsburys 3 years ago. I was going through a break up and severly depressed at the time so when my son opened a toy car and put in with his others I didnt notice and just assumed he picked up empty packaging so I discarded it. when pulled up by security I was made to pay for item and banned for life. My real question is they took a copy of my driving licence and am now wondering wheather they might still have it and what they do with it? Im wary as I dont like to think its laying around with all my details on.
  14. Most youngsters leave education knowing little about the grown-up worlds of work and money. Here are the key tips Martin Lewis would give to his younger self If only I'd known 20 years ago… to throw every spare penny at Google shares, to lambast Gordon Brown's irresponsible trill that boom and bust had ended, and not to invest time watching Lost, as the title would turn out to be eponymous for the plot. There are many things those with either just the beginning flecks of grey or full-blown silver wish we could tell our younger selves. Yet Doctor Who is fiction, so the best we can do is t
  15. Getting a mortgage and have been advised by the bank that Life Insurance is compulsory. Was quoted £45 a month and when I said that I would shop around was told that it wasn't worth it as I would have to get Lawyers involved to sign over the policy to the bank. A quote through Aviva is £11 a month. Are the bank right in this? How much will it cost for a Lawyer to sign over a policy saying that I will save over £300 a year.
  16. My business overdraft wasnt working and the bank took away the overdraft and put it on a loan to help me..lol However the bank made me take life insurance as cover for the loan. When I say 'made' I mean 'no cover no loan'. Five years later I closed the business owing the bank and continued paying the business loan from my new employed status. Then the bank said we need to draw up a new loan and continued the life cover even though my new employment had good death cover included free. Is this life cover a form of PPI? Had I not had life cover my personal circumstances would hav
  17. I'm fairly new to the forum, and am trying to find out how to value the remainder of a life interest in property and would be grateful for any help. This is the situation: A property owner accepted an amount of money from a married couple (both retired) in exchange for a permanent licence to occupy (accommodation for life / life interest) in an agreed part of the property. After ten years of living at the property, they have announced that they are divorcing. One of them wants to emigrate and is asking for a lump sum in return for him giving up his life interest in the property. His
  18. Have a Prestige 2100 steriliser for my work - the heating element according to the warranty has a life time guarantee. The unit works fine and legally, but the heating element has a hot spot and needs replacing. Sent machine back for repair early September. It was received, but have had no response from the company despite having sent emails and letters. Suggestions?
  19. Hi, In 1985 we took out a joint life policy with Abbey Life payable of first death value £19,935. We took a partial surrender in 1995 of £900. Over the years because we did not increase the premiums the policy value went down and now stands at £6,987. The reason for this post is to get some advice on what to do with this policy now as we have received a letter from Abbey Life. This letter gives some information about your COVERMASTER Plan which will reach its 28th anniversary on the 25th June 2013. Your COVERMASTER Plan is a unit linked life assurance policy. The curr
  20. Fame & Fortune: Shane Filan, the former Westlife singer, enjoyed a rock star lifestyle until disastrous investments left him bankrupt. Shane Filan amassed vast wealth as part of the Westlife boyband sensation, but lost it all when – like many others – he piled into the Irish property boom. With his brother, he borrowed heavily in an ambitious bid to build scores of homes, just as the market collapsed. The business finally folded last year and Filan was declared bankrupt shortly afterwards with debts reported at £18m and only a few thousand pounds in the bank. More: http://www.te
  21. A guy is walking along a beach when he comes across a lamp partially buried in the sand. He picks up the lamp and gives it a rub. A genie appears and tells him he has been granted one wish. The guy thinks for a moment and says, "I want to live forever." "Sorry," said the genie, "I'm not allowed to grant eternal life." "OK, then, I want to die after a Labour government balances the budget and eliminates the debt. "You crafty little b*gger," said the genie..
  22. Hi, Took out a Standard Life Income Protection Plan in 1995, after reading some of the post's regarding these plans, now believe it was not required as I was entitled to Full Company Sick Pay. at the time it was sold the Financial Advisor informed me that I could use up my Company Sick Pay, then apply for the Income Protection when the Sick Pay ran out, can this be deemed as mis-selling Thanks in advance
  23. I was wondering what peoples experience was with life after a conviction (being guilty), how have you managed to shake off the guilt and shame of people knowing what you have done (and the guilt and shame that you have yourself), and any tips on gaining employment? Any useful organisations? Thank you
  24. The latest inflation figure of 2.9pc might not seem alarming, but these small increases are continually eroding the value of people's savings and reducing their standard of living. You may not think prices have gone up much in 2013, but I can assure you they have. You need to focus not on the annual increase, but look instead at the cumulative impact of inflation over a longer period.
