  1. hi all, excellent forum apologies for a new thread, have read through a lot and not really any clearer i have quite a bit of council tax owing, just shy of £3k although that probably includes a lot of bailiff's charges etc i was paying 120/month to bailiffs until i lost my job in february at which point i stopped am now being chased by a new set of bailiffs, i called them on monday to explain that i am still unemployed and to try and set up a new payment plan the woman i spoke to said the bailiffs would have to come round and levy (?) my goods before they could discuss a payment plan she said i had until thursday to call them back and agree to this, i've never heard of this procedure, is she correct ? any advice greatly appreciated, i have a wife and kids here and i really dont want to live in fear of a knock at the door and strangers wandering in to take the telly away many thanks
  2. Hi A bailiff is claiming they have made a levy of my 'goods' from "outside the property" in October 2010. I did own a car at this date (on finance, so didn't actually really own it) They are using this levy as basis for enforcing a liability order made against me just before I went bankrupt in Nov 2011. Im aware that if there was no levy made before the bankruptcy then the liability order would make no difference and the council tax debt would still be provable in the bankruptcy (and written off) I believe this is why they are still pursuing me for the debt despite my bankruptcy. My conundrum is....... even if they accurately identified my car as an asset (I live on a main road in a terrace and often my car would be parked some way down the street) and it is listed on the Levy, what happens now?, as the car was returned to the finance company shortly before the bankruptcy and I am obviously no longer i possession of it. Would this make the Levy void? any advice would be greatly appreciated
  3. Morning all I have been brought to the forum as a result of an unwanted and unnerving visit from TASK Enforcement to enforce a warrant for a debt of £202. This was as a result of an unpaid parking fine from Lambeth Council The car belongs to my sister but I was driving at the time. i made unsuccessful appeals to the council and then missed a deadline when replying to the courts who had increased the amount to the £202 it now stands at. Mt sister no longer lives with us but the bailiffs insisted the would seize goods unless receipts could be provided proving ownership. To the best of my knowledge this is the first contact we have had with the bailiffs. they have certainly never attended prior to today. The total fee of £655.34 was reluctantly paid and was broken down as follows on a 'Notice of Seizure of Goods & Inventory' PCN owing £202 Letter £11.20 Levy Fee £58.95 Attendance to remove Goods/Vehicle £305.50 VAT £77.69 Total £655.34 The attendance to remove Goods/Vehicles seems extortionate and completely unreasonable. The amount was paid, no goods were removed and it is the first time they have visited. Is this the norm and a reasonable charge Is there any advice/steps i can take to try and recover this money from them
  4. Hi Due to extreme laziiness and mislaid letters I have managed to have my car seized from my drive for non-payment of a parking ticket. I was away at the time and only discovered 5 days later. Basically the debt is approx £550 (plus whatever gets added on by the car storage co.) and baliffs have threatened to auction my car. They do not have my keys or V5. My car looks more valuable than it is to a baliff, but I would assume at a car auction it may not raise that much. They even suggested on the phone that if I gave them the keys and V5 it would help raise the value. Anyway, simple question: Do I pay and move on (assuming extra charges) or if I let them sell at auction will I be clear on any debt with them ? Thanks Grazbo
  5. On Wednesday when I got home from work I discovered Baliffs had visited. They left a letter entitled "Notice of Baliffs Attendance" at 1:00pm and then there was a green form "Notice of Seizure of goods and Inventory". Listed on the inventory was my car which was parked on my drive. The car had not been clamped. I tried to call them (this was 8:00pm) and it went to an answerphone... I said the parking fine which I think they were chasing me was was appaled way back in February and having heard nothing more I assumed my appeal had won. The amount they were claiming on the green form was £110.00 parking fine and £254.80 "court Fee" the letter also said more fees would be incurred. I moved my car to a safe place and told him that when I spoke to him ....he said they would then enter my house and take goods instead. I know I do not have to let them in and feel ok (ish) about that, but has my car had a levy put on it (worried they may say I broke the law in some way by moving it). The green form says nothing about a levy but how can the car have been seized (as its says on the form) if it was still with me and not clamped / impounded. Grateful for advice.
