  1. Lloyds Banking Group is cutting around 850 jobs as part of the bank’s ongoing strategic review. Cuts are being made across the business including Lloyds’ commercial banking, retail, group operations, and group executive functions divisions. Other affected divisions include finance, insurance and wealth, asset finance and international. The bank says around 275 roles are also being created, mainly in Belfast and Scotland. The job cuts come on top of around 370 roles that are transferring to Sainsbury’s after the supermarket giant decided to buy Lloyds out of its stake in Sainsbury’s Bank y
  2. Hi, this is a complicated one but I will try to keep it brief! I had been working for company X for 3 years when company Y took over management of the site. I was told at the time that I had to TUPE over to company Y or I would effectively be making myself redundant as there was no longer a job for me with company X. I was also told that it was company Y’s policy to employ people at my level (admin support) through a contracting company (company Z). Now, this all went ok until recently. During the 2 years I have been working for the contracting company the original company I worked f

Basically when i signed on i was told my job search activity log did not include any applications for jobs in the last fortnight....i explained to my advisor that all applicable vacancies i had seen had statutary requirements of basic qualifications or certificates which i did not possess...i was then told i should have applied for them regardless and because i did not my claim was being sent to a decision maker!!! I was given form ES48 which states "Until this decisio
  4. Barclays chief executive Antony Jenkins has suggested that up to 40,000 jobs could be cut at the bank as customers switch to automated banking, according to reports. In meetings with shareholders of the bank, Mr Jenkins has said that he saw a future in which the bank employed 100,000 staff, Sky News has reported. Barclays currently hires roughly 140,000 people. It is understood that Mr Jenkins has discussed with investors the possibility of Barclays will become a self-service-oriented company, thereby allowing the remaining staff to focus on delivering "added value" to its customers. 5. More than 90 stores to close – but 171 shops and 1,675 jobs are being saved in pre-pack administration by owners of rival ScS Dreams, Britain's biggest beds retailer, has collapsed into administration with the loss of 400 jobs.More than 90 of its stores will be closed, but the remaining 171 shops, and 1,675 jobs, are being saved due to a £35m pre-pack administration with the owners of the rival bed and sofa company, ScS. The collapse of Dreams brings the total number of job losses in the retail sector to about 6,000 since the start of the year at failed firms including HMV, Jessops, Repub

  7. American Express has announced plans to cut 5,400 jobs worldwide from its total workforce of 63,500 by the end of 2013. The credit card provider said it took almost $600m (£370m) in after-tax charges in the fourth quarter of 2012. The company said that these charges would halve its net profit for the quarter from $1.2bn to $637m. It said the majority of the job losses would be in its travel business, which is being "fundamentally reinvented as a result of the digital revolution". American Express said it was having to adapt parts of the business as more customers make payments online or via mo
  8. The Insolvency Service has launched a voluntary exit scheme that is expected to see 50 employees in middle manager positions leave the organisation. It confirmed that the scheme is in response to falling case numbers and is targeted at middle managers and above across the agency. If case numbers continue to decline then the organisation will reduce employee numbers by between 200 to 400, or 10% to 20% of its workforce, over the next three years. 9. Hi Has anyone on the WP with Ingeus and been mandated to use their new website 'Ingeuswork.com' Wondered if anyone had any feedback on it and their results? I have found very little helpful to me, the distances are cost prohibitive travel wise or the jobs unmatched to my criteria. I was sent a Teacher role and a Lawyers Assistant!
  10. Barclays could slash as many as 2,000 jobs from its investment banking arm as part of a broad restructuring of the company. Antony Jenkins, the bank's new chief executive, announced in September that some parts of the bank would "shrink" as part of the overhaul, although he has ruled out a break-up of the scandal-hit lender. The job cuts could be announced early next year, the Wall Street Journal reported, and would represent around 10pc of Barclays' 23,000 full-time investment banking workforce. One source told the newspaper said that the cuts would focus on Asia and continental Europe,

  12. Spain is to overhaul its stricken banking sector after European Union regulators approved restructuring plans, as nationalised Bankia said that it would cut 6,000 jobs and report a loss of around €19bn this year. Bankia, whose shares were suspended from trading on Wednesday by regulators, said that it would cut 6,000 jobs, or around 28pc of its staff, by 2015 as it tried to stem losses. The bank said it intended to return to profit in 2013, but warned that it expected to report a loss of €19bn this year. Bankia will also close 1,100 branches as part of the restructuring. Earlier, t

  16. I appreciate this may be a little unusual but.... say you come out of fixed term contract with Company X for whatever reason, but have signed an agreement and other instruments that you are never to disclose: a) That you worked there; b) The type of work that you did; c) The people who you worked with d) The location of your work, or any other sites, e) Any training or skills acquired through that position No references or ANYTHING from Company X can be provided as a result, but Company X offers a rather generous "golden goodbye" package but not so generous as to last forever
  17. Bosses of failed banks would be handed lifelong bans from top City jobs and even jailed under plans unveiled last night. The Treasury published proposals that would see directors of broken banks prevented from working at other financial institutions, while the Government launched a consultation on new criminal offences covering misconduct in bank management. A Treasury source said: ‘It is vital that directors be held to account in the event of a bank failure. These would be among the toughest reforms of this kind in Europe.’ Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/news/article-
