  1. Hi, I received a letter on friday hand delivered stating removal notice. I had not had any previous letter - including their 14 day advance warning that a bailiff will call, from equita and all of a sudden this appears! I understand that a 14 day letter is required by law. also i have been making payments to the council direct for my council tax. what is the best thing to do?
  2. Hi I'm sorry to just jump straight in with a problem but here goes. I came home from work on Tuesday with what I've now found out is the basic bailiffs letter they hand out.Saying they want full payment or they are going to come to my home and remove my possession's.After reading all over the internet my windows and doors are locked at all times. I spoke to the council and asked them to take the debt back and all they could offer me was put my this years account on hold to December so i could pay the bailiff. And i rang the national debt line, who told me to pay the council and not the bailiff,i didn't have the money so went and bit the bullet and got my parents to pay the £325.00 on the online council payment system. I rang the council who told me that the money would go on to this years bill and id still owe the bailiffs. So now i don't know what to do as now i owe my parents and the bailiffs. And as far as my parents are concerned its all sorted! Thank you x
  3. Got a note through the door from Equita Bailiffs for a council tax liability order. Letter reads as follows: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name & address - printed on the letter Date - handwritten Time - handwritten Delivered By Hand BAILIFF REMOVAL Payment due in full - 24 hours I have attended today with the intention of removing your goods and chattels as are necessary to discharge the outstanding Council Tax Liability Order and additional Enforcement Costs incurred. PLEASE NOTE - No further arrangements are acceptable and payment is now required in full by CLEAR FUNDS ONLY. I will re-attend your address with immediate effect and may REMOVE goods even in your absence. Should you wish to avoid this distressing course of action, contact me immediately on the telephone number below to arrange prompt payment of your debt. No contact will be taken as your refusal to pay. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was nothing about the amount or actual costs. I contacted the council immediately, because this is the first I'd heard it was being kicked to the bailiffs. I knew I had a liability order but I had assumed my previous payment arrangement (made with the council) for last years order was continuing on, as I had made all my payments on time, and I'd heard nothing else from the council. After 10-15 futile minutes trying to get the council to take it back from the bailiffs, I got them to confirm the amount of the liability order. I borrowed the money from a relative, and paid off the liability order directly to the council via their automated telephone system. I then paid a further £45 (via automated system) to cover 2 bailiff visits - letter above being the first visit, and one more visit should they actually come in 24 hours and my account isn't clear in time, OR if they claim this wasn't the first visit. Is the letter above the standard first visit letter from Equita when you've got a council tax liability order? It doesn't sound like it - aren't they supposed to give you a payment arrangement option? When do bailiff costs get added to your council tax account? Do they maintain a separate account with the charges that the council doesn't have access to, cos the debt at the council was just for the liability order. I'm worried about them adding mystery costs to my account and/or that they've levied my neighbours cars (who are fond of parking outside my house). I have no intention of contacting the bailiffs, but I'd like to know this is finished and I haven't got to worry about more bailiffs charges, relatives parking at my house and hiding in my house to avoid contact.
  4. by paying money to bailiff company they will take there made up fees van attendance fee ect ect before any money has gone to the council if you can payments direct to the council using there online system or automated phone line if it is not this current years council tax it is a non priority debt
  5. Hi My wife got a parking ticket from the council which is contesting. She appealed against the council for the parking ticket but the information provided by from the council were not complete so she wrote again for more information. We didnt receive any more correspondent from the council for days until she got a letter from Equita Bailiffs threaten to come around and take her stuff to sell. Is the the normal procedure? I think the council should send an Order for recovery of unpaid charge and get a court action before sending the heavies(Bailiffs)? Is there any formal letter we can send to the coucil or are they right to send these guys without going to court?
  6. Hi guys, I have had several dealings with these idiots. (council tax debt) I know not to let them into my property or phone them, however 2 months ago when the baliffs turned up with the famous 'baliff removal letter - payment in full due in 24hrs' I called the call center, a payment plan wasn't set up due to me refusing to let a baliff in my home to list goods 1st. Nooo way. However I made it very clear that I was not refusing to pay and asked for a payment book. Letters continued as did visits. I then got the book.... have been paying when I can... small amounts as we can't afford much, but we are paying some. My husband works, however we are in receipt of child tax/working tax credits & housing benefit. But money doesn't stretch very far & we have to pay council tax in full every month. Today once again the visits have started. Just looking for some advice really? Shall I carry on as I am doing or anything else I can do? The baliffs must know I am in when they call as I have 2 noisy children lol. The first time around the baliff even asked my neighbour if we owned a car LOL! We don't though. Any advice appreciated. Thank You
  7. last january my wife got a parking fine a letter from bolton council came addressed to me as i was the registered keeper . thing is it claimed to be the 2nd letter and demanded £80.00 iirc ( i never got the 1st letter giving me chance to pay £30.00 ) i called bolton council to ask why i had not got the first letter and they just said well it was sent to you i also asked to see photographic proof it was actually my car , i recieved nothing !. i then chose to ignore their letters as they had ignored my request and today i have received a letter from equita bailiffs say in large red letters REMOVAL NOTICE . i contacted bolton council who told me i owe them £82.00 which i then offered to pay but they refused to accept my payment ? what i would like to know now is can bolton council refuse my offer to pay in full ?. if so what happens next as far as this bailiffs letter goes and what charges can equita load on top of the £82.00 that i own to bolton council .
  8. I had a court order for unpaid Council Tax from last financial year of about £250. To cut a long story short I spoke to the Council and they said they couldnt do anything and told me to make an arrangement with the specific Baliff He eventually phoned me this evening and I told him I would like to make an arrangement. He was rude and abrupt from the start and said he would visit me and we would come to an arrangement face to face and I would have to sign documents. Now I have been advised not to let them in your home and not to sign any documents so I refused this. On several occasions during the conversation I told him I would be perfectly happy to pay the debt off. When I told him I would not meet him he went mental and told me he had other means of getting the debt and put the phone down on me. So presumably I am going to get a visit off this fool. Where do I stand ?
  9. In Brief, On 16th July 2012 I received a sudden and only letter from Liverpool City Council (LCC) demanding outstanding council tax for over £1035, for a property that I rented from them and left 11 years ago. I rang their council tax dept immediately and they gave me the dates that they claimed I owed them for (2001-2003) and I explained that I was in fact living in Manchester and paying them council tax at the time. (From June 2001) I was asked to send proof of this and that they would make amendments and inform me of any new outstanding debt. I contacted Manchester City Council (MCC) who confirmed on their database that they were indeed receiving council tax payments from me from June 2001 inclusive and onwards, and they sent me an email address to give to LCC if they wished to check this, So I them the link given to me from Manchester City Council (MCC) LCC then said they would respond to me within 10 working days. 17 Working days later, i still had heard nothing from LCC, but I received a Bailiffs Letter, I have had no other correspondence in 11 years from anyone, nothing from the council and nothing from any Bailiffs, i was not even aware that there was any discrepancy since leaving the property. . on advice I was told not to contact the Bailiffs and so again I contacted LCC immediately and also copied into the conversation the head of LCC housing and benefits, only later to find out that the person had left that position, I again received an automated response from the revenues office, that they would contact me within 10 working days. Unhappy with this, I decided to contact the Chief Executive of LCC Mr Ged Fitzgerald, explaining that the Bailiffs letter had come to my elderly parents house and I again explained the situation of where I was living and that I did not understand where this sudden debt had appeared from after all this time, I also told him of the automated response and non response. He replied saying he would look into it for me and within a day 10th August I received a different demand from the revenues office of LCC for £332., it did not have a breakdown of what this was for, but the amount had reduced significantly. Although I was still not happy about the amount due to only living at the property on my own for 2 months of that particular tax year, I enquired immediately as to what this was for? and asked for a break down. The breakdown which was sent in reply was again for a year I was not living in Liverpool, it quite clearly stated that up until end of tax year March 2001, I owed £0.00 council tax, then charged me for a Sole Occupancy Discount for 2001-2002 plus £195.26 for 2001-2002 and again a charge for April and May of 2002, = £336 ... (so again as you can see the amounts differed from the one given just the day before) Frustrated at LCC's incompetence, to understand that I was not living at the address for the time they were claiming, again I queried this and again contacted the Chief Exec of LCC explaining my concerns, as I was still receiving threatening Bailiffs letters, and I explained that I was not living at the address for the demand at the dates listed and even by the breakdown given, the maximum the debt (if any) could be for, could only be for the two months that I was living in Liverpool of 2001 (April and May) = a total of £127 .....£63 per month, as I moved to Manchester and was paying them council tax from June 2001 and I offered to pay this £127 as an goodwill gesture, even if to just stop the bailiffs letters, as this being 11 years on, any bank records I had from that time, have long since been through a shredder. The Cheif Exec's reply was he would respond shortly. (15th August) I then heard nothing until the 30th August 2012, I received another threatening Bailiffs letter demanding a totally different amount of £356.59 payable immediately, there was no indication as to why this amount had changed again, so instead of even trying the revenues office at LCC, and again as under advice NOT to contact the Bailiffs, I replied directly to the Chief Executive of LCC explaining that the problem had not been resolved and that I was under the impression the dispute was being dealt with from his last reply, again he replied promptly the following morning 31st August 2012 (last Friday) to say he would look into this for me. Today, Monday 3rd September 2012 I came home from my part time job to, 2 hand delivered letters from a Bailiff from Equita Northampton, threatening to return in 24 hours to remove my fathers car that is parked in the driveway if a new amount of £533.59 was not paid in full by tomorrow. (again the amount has changed to include a £177 Bailiffs charge) My parents were at home all day today and no one even attempted to knock on the door or ring the bell they just put it through the letter box and left. My father angry at this then rang the Bailiff direct and explained the car was his and that I am currently in conversation with LCC over the dispute of CTAX. The Bailiff obnoxiously and threateningly told my father to prove the car is his or he will take it, and also said you should be more worried about your son paying his debts. My father then rang the head office of Equita to inform them of this conversation and he also told them that the car and everything on this property belonged to him, they asked him for a forwarding address of myself and my father again explained that I moved here but everything here belongs to my father and not me, and also told them that I am in dialogue with LCC over the dispute, they told him that they could not discuss the case with him, and asked him for me to contact them, (something I will not do) but given credit where it is due the lady at the head office gave my father assurance's that the Bailiff could not remove his car or his property. In the meanwhile I was contacting the Chief Executive of LCC again via email as we do not have a phone number to speak to him directly and I have informed him of this latest development and asked if he could speak to these Bailiffs and explain that the matter is in dispute, I have had no reply to my email as yet. What baffles me is why after 11 years this alleged debt suddenly appears, why there has been no contact from LCC in all that time and why in the space of 6 and half weeks with very little response from the actual Revenues office except the obligatory automated email response, and the new breakdown which still asks for money from dates that I didn't live at the abode, I now have Bailiffs at my parents door, threatening to take away their property? Is this normal for things to happen so quickly with Bailiffs?? a nd why havent LCC contacted them to let them know that I am disputing the case and have supplied information that proves I wasnt living there for when they are claiming?? I have been fully co-operative with LCC since they first contacted me, but this has moved with such extreme speed, to have Bailiffs at my door so soon, whilst it is clearly apparent from my email correspondence with the Chief Exec of LCC that the dates on the LCC database are wrong which is why I am disputing the matter, it worries me that other people could find themselves in the same situation, and feel forced into paying something that they shouldn't. If anyone can give me any further help or advice , as to what to do next, I would appreciate it as this is obviously giving my parents a great deal of stress, of which my father does not need given he has a serious heart condition., as well as giving me un-needed stress. I just dont know what else to do now and Im worried these Bailiffs will turn up whilst I'm at my part time job and cause bother.
  10. I have a letter from equita for an old parking fine.It has been delivered to me by a neighbour as my address is wrong(he has written just trying number 145 as my house is 45) ...for example number 45 anystreet instead of number 145 anystreet... Am i legally allowed to ignore this,i am saving to pay the debt(now £145 plus £11.20 fees)but it will take me another 2 weeks to raise it. Can they increase the debt if i dont respond(considering that technically i am not in recepit of any letter)? Thank you!
  11. Hi, have seen a few posts but not sure which path to follow. I have a parking ticket in my husbands name ( car registered to him) which I have not dealt with and now the Bailiffs are sending letters. It looks like it has gone to County Court - they have a warrant for removal of goods and have advised that they will return within 7 days ( date unspecified) and would prefer if he were at home ( how when we do not know they are coming I do not know). There is no amount specified They are threatening to 'return' to remove goods. The letter is signed with a name rather than 'Bailiff in Charge' etc What is my best course of action? Obviously the debt must be paid but I know any plan I put forward would be laughed at and also at the moment we have no spare cash. Recently paid one from around about the same time which had escalated to £450 - they caught me as the door was open - (it was a hot day) luckily I had some friends who helped me out. I was thinking to re-register the car in my name to buy time and to offer a payment plan but I do not know if it has gone too fa. Unfortunately I should have dealt with this a long time ago but due to personal issues let t slide and I have a feeling there may be another one lurking. Current financial situation is that my husband works full time, I am 'self employed' although not making any money as such. His wages cover all our outgoings ( JUST) we are also in an IVA which has run for 1 year to date. I have read about denial of access.... Does this actually work? Should I try this? Can anyone help? Yours desperately Mcknat
  12. Hi im a newbie and after some advice. had the bailiffs round for an unpaid parking ticket, had received no letters etc from council or anything, was told to pay £412.50 to get the clamp off and deal with the matter after. We needed the car for work so paid the money. The car is registered to my son but at our address and he doesnt live at home and the car is insured and maintained by us. the bailiff came on the 20th July and have just received a letter from Equita dated 5th July saying to pay the £100 + so it doesnt go to court, 4 weeks after the posted date. Contacted the council who said the letters went elsewhere? contacted Equita as to why it took 4 weeks to get the letter? Contacted the post office for a claim form, have I missed anything is my question.

  14. Morning guys... I have set up a repayment plan with Equita to pay off an old council tax debt. I missed one repayment but brought the repayment up to date and now owe £385.00 I pay £95.00 a month. To cut a long story short i received a letter yesterday saying take formal warning we have bailiff officers in my area whom are coming to remove your goods..... Now do i ignore the formal warning and continue my repayments or call/email Equita... Thanks in advance.
  15. Hello there people, I'll try and explain my situation as clearly as poss... Last year my daft husband (whilst driving my car) got caught driving a few metres in a bus lane. A penalty notice arrived addressed to me and he filled in a slip on the bottom of a letter with his debit card details to pay the fine (around £60). The council claimed they never received the letter and the fine was passed on to Equita. My husband made a payment arrangement and made two staggered £51 payments over the phone. He then thought the matter was dealt with and he'd learnt his lesson not to drive 2 metres of a 6 metre bus lane. Yesterday, I came home from an MRI scan (I have a spine/muscular disability which has me in and out of hospital) to find a scary looking letter from a bailiff wanting to execute a warrant from Northampton court to remove goods/vehicle etc. Attached to the letter is a copy of said warrant which states the amount due (including court fee and adjudication costs) to be £97.00. That amount has been crossed out in pen to be replaced by £292.84. I contacted the council who issued the fine who couldn't help me and Equita have said they can't find a record of how/where the two £51 payments have been allocated/gone and say that my husband mustn't have paid the full amount. I rang the bailiff (in tears) and explained that we're absolutely skint (on debt management plan with the CCCS, have four children, I've lost my job due to disability and would try and pay some of the money off when I could. I then found an emergency credit card with £102 on. He said he'd try for the whole amount but then rang back to tell me that only £102 has gone through. The bailiff said he would 'call off his boys until Monday' and said I had until then to get the £190 outstanding together. He wasn't interested in an offer of weekly payments. On Equita's own website their bailiff charges should come to £39.20 (a letter and fee for amount under £100) so don't know where the £195.82 charge comes from I've just done a search on the bailiff's name [edit] and he doesn't appear on the register of certificated bailiffs. He signed the letter in his name with the title 'Head Bailiff'. I really don't know what to do, we're completely skint and can't possible get the rest of the money together by Monday. Thank you very much in advance!
  16. Hello I am a single mum to 4 kids and recently two of them turned 18 (twins) and as such i was waiting for my new council tax benefit to be processed. In the meantime i was being billed the full amount by the council while my claim was being processed. I could not pay it, and i really did try to pay it, i sold all my jewelery and some of the kids games. Now my claim has gone through and that is ok but i am still being chased for the debt. I have agreed with the council to pay the outstanding debt at a rate of £10 per week but the baillifs Equita are still chasing me. When i spoke to them and explained that i now have an agreement to pay off the debt they said the fee's were for there time, which totalled £196!!! They have never called out to my house and all i have received from them is threatening letters about them coming out to take my goods. Where do i go from here? There is now way i can afford to pay this amount and they will not leave me alone. Whenever i contact the council they say it is out of there hands now and that i owe the baillifs the money so i should pay them the fee's. I am at my wits end and feel like i am going to have a mental breakdown.
  17. I received a fine for nipping in to a bus lane by error, I rebelled as I'm prone to doing and I am now looking at a fine for £190 as a result. I paid £50 as a down payment then I received this letter from Equita. (It won't upload - but it says what I want to ask you folks below..) I'll have to pay the fine, but what concerned me was the point made in No 1 of this letter.... 1. "The court has ordered that you clear the arrears in respect of your unpaid Penalty Charge Notice for vehicle (Reg no. left out in the letter)" 2. Unless we receive full payment of the outstanding amount or reach agreement for payment by return, further enforcement procedings will be started against you. 3. Please contact ladidah....... Now the court ordered I pay the fine, that is correct, but I haven't received any order from the court that I am to pay the arrears. I loathe fines at the best of times, especially as this was a pure mistake and I hadn't noticed the area was a bus lane. I argued my points and whoever looks at these things decided they were right and I was wrong - gormless greedy idiots, but none the less I'm left with it and it's too late to go faffing about with it any longer. However, me being me saw red when I read that statement, anyone any comments on how this should be treated? Thanks A1
  18. After some advice or help please. We currently only have the one car in the household, which is in my name but my husband uses for work. I'm currently unemployed. Last year he got a parking fine which he chose to ignore as we couldn't afford to pay it and didn't tell me about it. I eventually found out when a letter came to the house saying the fine had increased to roughly £100. Can remember the exact figure, had it out with him and he said he would sort it well turns out he never. Had a letter come dated the 17/05/12 saying a warrant has now been issued by the Traffic Enforcement Centre through Northampton County Court and passed to us. We therefore require the sum on £125.44 inclusive of statutory fees of £11.20 by return of post. I again asked him to sort as we couldn't afford to pay the amount in full and to set up a payment arrangement with them, kept reminding him to call which never happened. we ended up going down to Devon as my FIL was taken ill and ended up in hospital, while we were away another 2 letters came through the post and 1 hand delivered letter. 1st letter dated 6/06/12 basically saying please contact us with payment or to arrange payment plan 2nd letter dated 7/06/12 Removal Notice from the actual bailiff our account had now been passed to. Saying I have been issued your case so that I can call at your home within the next week with a removal contractor when I may remove your goods to the local auction and for us to call. 3rd 12/06/12 Delivered by hand Bailiff Removal saying I am authorised by the court under the enforcement of road traffic debts regulations 1993 to remove your vehicle/household effects to satisfy your unpaid penalty charge notice due to Tamworth Borough council. If you fail to contact me within the next 24hrs I will have no alternative but to re attend your property at any hour of the day or night to impound your vehicle/remove goods. This will result in substantial extra costs of at least £140.00 being payable. As soon as we got back home on the 17/06/12 my husband called the bailiff explained we had received all 3 letters while we had been down in Devon as his father was taken ill. He said he didn't have our paperwork to hand and could he call him on the Monday. Which my husband did explained the situation he put the account on HOLD till 5th July as we currently have no money to pay when my husband mentioned paying by an instalment plan he said he couldn't arrange that and we would have to speak to the office. He also informed my husband that the balance was now £421.00. On none of the 3 letters does it state that the fine has increased. Well he called and spoke to the office to set up an payment plan to be told they cant deal with it as all the paperwork is now with the bailiff even though he had advised us to speak to them. My husband again called the bailiff direct 1 to find out the balance and to get a breakdown of all charges and to say what the office had said to again be told he doesn't have our paperwork and can he call him back tomorrow. I currently don't know where I stand with all this, can they force entry into my home???? Do I need to pay the additional £300 when I currently have no clue what this £300.00 is for. Can they still refuse to accept a payment plan?? Or am I better off writing them a letter with our currently financial situation stated and what we can afford to pay and the dates I can pay it and just stick to those payment dates. Can anyone help or offer advise of what to do next. Thanks Oh and my husband is currently in the dog house I'm absolutely livid with him for not just paying the original £35 fine.
  19. Hello everybody, I am soooo stressed. I have a council tax debt from a couple years ago which was issued to me while i was away at uni doing my masters. The council tax was in my name at my family home for around a year while my parents were away travelling. The debt is around £500. I am now back at home and upon opening my pile of post i was devastated to see Equita were after me. I called them to find out more about the debt.... A few days later a bailiff turned up at my door, i opened the door and spoke with him, he said he needed full payment within 48 hours or he would take the cars on the drive, i said they do not belong to me which they do not. 4 days later a form was posted through my letterbox with the reg numbers of the cars on it, they had been levyed - which did not bother me as they are not my cars. On top of this the £500 debt had now became £826 with no indication of why, or how. The total amount was now £826. I text the bailiff and said i was not in a position to pay the debt and that i will be contacting equita and the council regarding the fees charged. The bailiff never bothered me again.... In the meantime i sent a serious of letters to equita outlining an 18 month payment plan with payments i could afford to make. I even made the first payment online as a gesture of goodwill. They wrote back and said that they could not accept my offer and left a bailiffs number to contact - a new bailiff had been assigned to me. A few days later he shows up at my door demanding payment in full - i explain the situation, i cannot afford it and i dont own anything of value - its my mothers house. He starts going off on one and i explain i need a payment plan - he told me i have a month.... I said i cannot get the funds that quickly and i am not happy to pay these fees which supposedly "have been agreed with the council before hand" :-/ In the end he stormed off and shouted "THERES GOING TO BE A WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST THEN FOR NON PAY....." I shut the door and assumed he was just giving the large one.... Now..... What should i do, am i going to get arrested? I am lost and worried...... Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
  20. Hi all, new to the forum but a long time viewer - any help much appreciated. A very long story cut as short as possible... Council tax debt of around £520 from Property Afrom 2008 after a messy relationship split. April 2008, moved to Property B as single tenant. The debt followed as still paying council tax to Sheffield City Council. 6 months later, moved into Property C as a non council tax payer, so Sheff City Council did not know of new address. October 2010, moved into Property D as council tax payer. November 2010, received letter from Equita stating ownership of council tax. I immediately contacted Equita to inform them I was querying the bill with Sheff City Council. Sent two emails to SCC with no response. Last week, received bailiff hand delivered letter from Equita. Contacted Bailiff and explained I had tried to resolve matter last year with no response. He stated I owed approx £760 due to numerous visits. I told him this was first visit I knew of. After speaking to Council redemption team, they claim bailiff had made a couple of visits and Equita had sent 3-4 letters to Property B in 2010. They agreed only contact from Equita at Property D was the one letter in November 2010 and the one Bailiff visit in November 2011. The problem starts here... From what I've read on here and similar websites, the most the Bailiff can charge in fees is £42.50? I'm desperate to know if they can claim fees from visiting a property I didn't live in as I surely cannot pre-empt letters and visits. I'm getting little help from the 3 parties involved, they pass me round. I had to leave a letter with the SCC redemption team stating everything and pleading to take the debt back (which I don't think they will). I have e-mailed Equita FAO Karen Fowler explaining this (last Wednesday) and told response within 24 hours and I'm still waiting. Bailiff wants an update on Thursday so getting very anxious as I have the money to pay and want to pay - just not any illegal fees etc. Any help massively appreciated. Thank you.
  21. I am 21, never worked, always been on benefits, and in grands of debt from council tax and rent arrears from previous council accommodation that I don't think I am liable to pay. I am receiving JSA in which i get £70 per every 2 weeks because I am currently paying back crisis loans, and my rent is £30pw there are gaps in my claim due to depression which caused me to stay home all day and not eat or sleep properly, which then meant my income was nil. despite all that EQUITA is sending me numerous letters that don't even say how much they claim I owe. The most recent one received states the following: REMOVAL NOTICE Despite numerous previous applications for payment you have failed to pay the outstanding council tax due to Westminster city council. Therefore, I have been issued your case so that I can call at your home within the next week with a removal contractor when I may remove your goods to the local auction house. I would prefer that you were in attendance if your goods are removed and should another day be more suitable I urge you to contact me on the number below immediately. should you prefer to pay the balance outstanding, call me to arrange immediate payment. yours sincerely David Furlonger Bailiff in charge telephone: 07970634413 please advise me on what to do or who to contact. thank you
  22. Hi everyone, Really hoping you can all be of help. This is the first time anything like this has happened and the first time I am posting something. Here's how the situation unfolded today. We had made an agreement with the council to pay some remaining £700 of council tax in monthly installments. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about it and was tardy with some payment. We didn't receive any letters or communications saying I had been late or anything. Then out of no where, a man dressed in black, a motorcycle helmet and a balaclava showed up at our door. He didn't speak, or even remove the visor covering his face. He simply shoved a letter at us. We were so frightened by the situation that we ended up calling the police because we thought it could have been some [problem]. After we realized that we were late in our council tax payment, we phoned the council and paid off in FULL the remaining money owing to us. So now we are clear of any overdue funds. Once we were made of the situation, we tried to fix it. So we've paid the council tax in full today (Thursday Dec 8) but after phoning the bailiff to tell him of this he said, too bad he is coming to visit us again to get his money. He is asking for some £250 and said he will keep coming back until he gets it. We spoke to the council about it and they said they will try to reverse the bailiff but it would take up to 10 days and it might not even happen. A few questions -- because we never got any letters from the bailiff or anyone before, how much are we legally entitled to pay in his fees? Do we need to pay any since we paid off the council tax in full once we were made of the situation? Can he keep coming back again and again? We're just not sure what to do.... should we just pay him off and get it over with? So many questions and not sure what to do! Thanks so much everyone in advance.
  23. Earlier today I tried setting up a payment plan with Equita to pay off my Birmingham city council Tax bill off £1,086.24. I offered to pay £100 a month to them which they said was acceptable but I had to make my first payment today. Unfortunately I told them I could make a payment till Wednesday so they refused to put payments on hold till then and told me that I would still be liable for extra charges till I make first payment. Is there any one I can contact to try to get them to wait till Wednesday without commencing any extra action. I am worried as I have previously had them turn up on my door step and levy vehicles on my drive before I have even received letters from them (previous debt) and I currently have a car parked on my drive which I've declared SORN as I'm attempting to sell it to try to raise money to pay of my debts. Unfortunately as car is not insured or taxed I can't move it to different location. Any advice greatly appreciated
  24. Hi I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on my problem...I received 2 parking tickets within a week of each other about a year ago I am unemployed due to the fact Im mentally disabled I have Bipolar and ADHD anyway I couldnt afford to pay either of them and because Ive been very unwell this last year I will admit I have just tried to forget them as it was all too stressful. Anyway I have been receiving Letters from Equita but they are addressed to the wrong surname I think this is because an error was made on my registration documents a long time ago...I have re registered the car since the parking fines occurred in my correct name and when I sent the registration forms off I actually filled it in wrong and did it as a change of owner instead of change of name. So the car is now registered to me but in my correct name as a new owner. What I would like to know is this...if these warrants have been issued in the wrong name and the letters Equita are sending are in the wrong name can they still take my car as it is registered to my correct name now and was registered after the parking tickets were issued so in a way its like the car has changed hands. Also as they have the wrong name does that also mean I am not liable for the debt so they cant take any of my belongings either?? Id really appreciate if someone could get back to me ASAP so I know what to do when they show up. Thanks in advance
