  1. i have been doing extra duties / work for over 2 years now and it has not been recognised in either wage increase or additional admin support to do the work. do i have an option to demand increase or take out a grievance....
  2. I've been with my employer for almost a year now. I was hired as a warranty controller, but my duties have been gradually increased, taking on duties from both other staff (such as those leaving) and those of my manager. I've asked that I be considered for a higher position, namely assistant manager, as I feel this better incorporates all my duties, but nothing has materialised as of yet. It's frustrating, as I'm now responsible for quality control, monthly reports and now rental. In additional, I have to cover workshop control when he's away for any reason, plus I don't have anyone willing to take up any of my duties, so I always end up with a backlog if I ever take time off (so much for ever taking 2 weeks off). The issue is that nobody else wants to take on anything else. I'm decent enough of a work to be willing to help out, but it seems I get nothing in return. My question would be how to approach my manager and make it clear that I'm not being awarded for my increases responsibilities. My role is more difficult than when I sarted, but I've not been given any promotion, bonus or salary increase. I think one of the latter is appropriate in particular.
  3. Hi everyone, New here, so apologies in advance if this has been asked before. I have recently received a letter in the post from Control Account PLC about my owing them £29.49 for money outstanding to DHL International in relation to charges incurred by HM Customs & Excise. Today I received a 2nd letter stating I have 14 days to make the payment. The rest of the letter is pretty much the same. I proceeded to look into my Amazon and Ebay history for the past year, as I am unable to record when I may have purchased something from outside the EU that could incur a levy of £30. I failed to find anything for the last 14 months, so I can only think that it may be something I may have bought longer ago, or that it's fake. Either way, I was advised to register on here and NOT phone Control Account PLC, and get some good advice from you good folk here, so my question now is, how do I find out what exactly I owe money for and should I write to them and/or pay them? I don't mind paying if it's legit, but frankly, their website looks well dodgy (for one, they don't even have an SSL certificate for their "payment" gateway!!), so I am very uncomfortable with this entire situation. Thanks in advance! Jaco
  4. Hi, i wonder if anyone could advise on this I work in the NHS and around 2006 we had a new pay structure implemented called "agenda for change" . It worked out that my basic pay actually dropped but other allowences i.e. working nights and weekends and working in inner London actually gave me an overall raise. i received an updated letter at the time confirming my updated terms and conditions Now, since then the job that i do has had a multitude of extra tasks/requirements added to it although the job description and person specification has remained the same When i question a new role or task that i am given which was always done by someone of a higher grade in the past , i am continually told that "it changed when agenda for change was implemented" and then a manager will point out they can tell me do this new task as on my job description it states " other duties appropriate to the grade as and when required under the direction of line manager"
  5. Hello all. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I'm sure if any of you have had this condition or any knowledge of it, you will appreciate just how painful and debilitating it is. Having this condition, means that standing and walking is extremely painful and on some days is impossible at all and I literally have to crawl on my hands and knees to get about my home. The condition usually takes around 18 months or so to heal. The condition is worsened by standing and walking on hard surfaces. I work for quite a large national company and have done so for over 7 years. The problem however, is my job involves standing and walking for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and the flooring we have is a very basic, worn carpet with no underlay and as such sits directly on concrete (it's the cheap carpet squares you buy and put together - this has been there for around 6 years). As a result of thi,s I spend most my working day and then in the evening in total agony (some days are better then others but most are very painful). My manager is aware of my condition but hasn't really spoken to me about it or made any suggestions regarding what could be done to help (only me asking him if I could wear black trainers instead of shoes - which he agreed to). If I am off work for 3 periods in any 6 months, then I will receive a verbal warning and if it continues, then it escalates upto and including dismissal. I was off last week and a couple of months before that so if I take any more time off then I will be disciplined. This is something I desperately want to avoid and is why I have been going through literally agony on a daily basis. Okay, There are other duties that I could do but they are currently being done by other members of staff and knowing the politics (i.e. the sniping that goes on behind everyone's back, etc), no one would be very happy to do the work that I am currently doing and me doing theres. Despite working there for the length of time I have, I'm worried about rocking the boat especially in view of the current job market. However, at the same time there seems to be no appreciation of the pain I have to go through whilst others (in a different role) are able to sit on a chair all day. Am I able to request a review of my duties? Would HR at least be obliged to listen to my concerns? Or is the most likely scenario be that I will just have to put up and shut up and if the condition worsens, leave my job (this is something I desperately need to avoid as I have a young family to support). Thanks for any help that you can give.
