  1. My brother passed away in hospital yesterday. He had been in for 9 weeks. He was initially admitted suffering uncontrollable fits. At the time nobody knew the cause and it was assumed he had been drinking too much. He was in intensive care for a week where they managed to control the fits. he was left with some brain damage as a result of oxygen starvation. He was moved to high dependency where he made such good progress over the next week or so they wanted to discharge him to a psychiatric hospital ( he has had mental health problems for many years). The only reason they wouldn't take him was because he had mobility and speech issues due to the effects of the fits. Moved to a stroke ward where he was given physio etc and was making such good progress we had a meeting about his discharge to a stroke rehab unit. It was just before this that he developed a problem with his blood. We had no idea at the time but have since been made aware that the week before he was given a transfusion whilst a relative was visiting. this problem became much worse and still we were unaware of the problem. Two weeks ago my sister went to visit him, we hadn't been for a few days. She thought he was ignoring her because of this. He was unresponsive and had his head turned away. When she got round the bed it was obvious he had had a stroke. He was staring with the right side of his face drooped. Nurses were alerted a dotor came and said he had had a stroke. He ordered a scan. I arrived and waited 2 hours. Nothing happened. Very few staff around. More visitors came so we left but still nothing was done. I phoned later that night still no scan. we were beside ourselves as we had all been made aware from publicity that action needs to be swift. It was sunday morning before we heard he had his scan. It was tuesday when we got to see the consultant who showed us the scan images that revealed the extent of the stroke damage. Half his brain destroyed. Obviously the prognosis was very poor. The reason he gave for the lack of treatment was that the blood problem prevented them from giving emergency care. This was the first time anybody discussed it. They didn't know what the problem was even though it had been there for at least 4 weeks! The following Saturday we arrived and he had greatly deteriorated. Again no staff to speak to. His ts hirt was dirty his mouth was in a terrible state. His teeth hadn't been cleaned for days. Visited monday still no staff that would talk to us.I phoned again on the evening and got quite angry when again the staff nurse would tell me nothing. I pointed out his lack of basic nursing care. i was very upset. Tuesday morning my sister and I get a call at work saying we needed to come in as his condition had deteriorated and doctor wanted to speak to us! This was Visited Wednesday and Thursday asked about the blood problem but nobody would answer He was in such a low state that they could do no more for him and would only keep him comfortable. On friday they withdrew fluids and all medication and would no longer feed him.Again I asked about the blood problem, what had been done to investigate it, what had been eliminated. The only answer I got was telling me what they would have done if he hadn't had the stroke. We were called Saturday morning but were minutes too late, he died without us. We are supposed to collect the certificate tomorrow but I am so angry that we don't even know what was wrong with him in the first place! Is that it? Will we never know? 9 weeks in hospital with no definite diagnosis only a stroke after 7 weeks! What went wrong? How can I go further with this? Thanks in advance
  2. Hello This is probably to late to ask but i only just noticed. I bought a Blu-ray DVD player nearly one and half years ago from Amazon. At the time of buying player i read the online item description. It had what i wanted, in this case MP3 compatible plus other formats. I have just gone to play a MP3 file/disc on player it will not play MP3. Product manual shows other audio formats listed but not MP3. I never thought to look at manual or play MP3 on player at the time as it stated in the online description it was MP3 compatible and i had a MP3/CD player Hi-Fi separate anyway. I take it, i have left it to long to do anything about it? Thanks
  3. I wonder if anyone can help me? It was 20:30 in the evening and dark. I was driving along a side turning and stopped at a T-junction at the end, intending to turn left. I had my headlights on dipped beam. I looked both ways and was clear so I started to pull out. A white Transit van coming along the road I was turning into from my left, pulled out to the centre of the road to straddle a speed bump which was the middle of three across the road. The van was travelling at a speed I would estimate to be 50 mph or more. The speed limit in the road is 30 mph. I had pulled out about 2 feet and stopped to wait for the vehicle to pass as it was straddling the centre white line, was travelling so fast and was half on my side of the road. It went over the speed bump but continued steering to the right, straight at my car. The van hit the front of my car to the right of my nearside headlight, ripping off the bumper, radiator grill, off-side headlight, etc. The driver steered the van to the other side of the road and stopped. The Transit van has damaged on the offside part of the bumper and on the front offside wing. As you can imagine, I was very shaken but, luckily, was not injured in any way. I was lucky that I had not continued to turn because I would have been hit head-on. The driver of the van got out of the driver's seat and said "What was you doing on my side of the road?" I said I was nowhere near her side of the road and was not even near the centre white line. She then said that she did not see me. I said "Why was that because I have my headlights on." She then said she would lose her £500 excess. I said that was her fault. She gave me her name but refused to give me her address and initially also refused to give me her mobile phone number as she said she did not know it. When I suggested she phone my mobile her memory returned and she told me the number. As the van was from a hire company, I wrote down the company's name, address and phone number. I still asked the driver for her address, but she refused to give it and, while I was ringing my wife to bring me a camera to take some pictures, the driver drove off. An off duty police officer, who was walking his dog, also stopped and knocked at one of the nearby houses to borrow a broom and he cleared up the debris from the road. He did not see the accident but could see where my car was positioned, etc. and gave me his badge number in case I needed anything from him. I was nowhere near the other side of the road and was not even halfway across my side. And looking at my damage and the damage on the transit van was it is evident that the van hit me from the left, across the front of my can. I think that because of the speed the driver was driving at she lost control of the van when she went over the speed bump. My insurance company are saying they are accepting 100% liability because the other driver had right of way and I was turning into her road. I am saying she was driving too fast and should not have been on my side of the road. How could she have right of way when she was on tghe wrong side of the road. The photos I provided show me sticking out of the side turning by about two feet and my insurer suggested I could have reversed my car back into the side turning but it is obvious from where the debris is that I hadn't. Can somebody please give me some advice/ Did she have right of way?

  5. The energy company who will pay YOU £20 when they don't call back Scottish & Southern Energy customers can now demand a £20 refund every time the firm fails to call back when it says it will. In a bid to improve its customer service, the energy giant has said each time it doesn’t meet its five principles it will deduct the money from your bill. The five principles are: calling you back when promised; never transferring you more than once unless you agree; giving you the opportunity to speak to a manager if you ask; offering support if you need help with your bills; and helping to save you money. There is no cap on the amount of refunds you can get, but you must claim within ten days of the alleged service failure. The money will be credited to your account balance, so you will see the discount when you next pay your bill — be it monthly or quarterly. Pre-payment customers will see the money added to their card the next time they top-up. 6. Hi, I've got a Tribunal date this Friday, 15th Feb. I'm not going to be able to attend as my daughter isn't well. She has a very bad case of the flu which in turn has affected her asthma. I have no one else to look after her and she is too young to be left alone. I wanted to know if the tribunal will make a decision in my absence seen as I have provided them will all the evidence and paperwork needed. I did want to attend in person but there is no way I am going to be able to now. Please help, I'm very worried about it all!! Thank you!
  7. A timely warning on the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/21191420 One of the first things that many prospective employers now do when sifting job applications is to look up the applicant's Facebook profile, so it is important that if you are in the habit of posting pictures of a boozy night out, or litter your posts with profanity, you should always consider whether this is likely to impress or put off a potential employer - maybe even years down the line! And don't even think about posting your innermost thoughts about the company you already work for online - it is very easy for an employer to make the case that what you have written, or even how you appear to the outside world, can bring the company into disrepute.
  8. Hi, this is my first time here and have been looking on various sites for answers and cant seem to find any so I hope you dont mind me posting here! I had my medical yesterday (on a Sunday!!!!!!) but ATOS couldn't tell me what will happen next. The medical itself seemed to go OK, but as with everyone, you're left in the dark afterwards. Does anyone know how long it takes for the decision makers to decide on the results? I have been through cancer and am still suffering from the aftereffects of chemotherapy, but I suppose I'm lucky as I still have a job to go back to. The problem is that if I am turned down for ESA, I won't be able to claim JSA, as I would not be actively looking for work, as I already have a job. My occupational therapists have stated in writing that I cannot go back to work and I showed this to ATOS. I guess I'm really concerned about the benefits... if I dont get ESA or JSA, what do I get? If anyone could help, you would make my day and ease the strain of all this polaver!! xx
  9. Hello, I'm in a really difficult situation. I am currently on benefits, I have a child and I have to go back to Italy for a while (personal reasons), I don't know if I will stay there permanently, but when I arrive, I won't have any financial resources straight away. I will have to find a job, etc. and with a young child is not going to be easy. I am thinking about not notifying the dwp, hmrc and housing benefit/ctax benfit of my leaving the country, so I have some means to start with. If I don't do it, I won't be able to survive. I know is not I nice thing to do, I am a honest person, but circumstances are forcing me, it is necessary. It would be only for the first two or three months, but I'm afraid I could be caught, brought back to the UK and put in prison. How likely is that to happen? Thanks in advance. A desperate mother.
  10. Peter invited his mother for dinner, during the course of the meal his Mother couldn't help but notice how lovely Peter's flat mate, Joanne, was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between the two, and this only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Peter and his flat mate than met the eye. Reading his Mum's thoughts, Peter volunteered, 'I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Joanne & I are just flat mates'. About a week later, Joanne came to Peter saying, 'Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the frying pan, you don't suppose she took it do you? 'Well I doubt it, but I'll e-mail her just to be sure' said Peter. So he sat down and wrote: Dear Mum, I'm not saying that you 'did' take the frying pan from my house. I'm not saying that you 'did not' take the frying pay, but the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love, Peter Several days later, Peter received an email from his Mother which read: Dear Peter, I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Joanne and I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with Joanne, but the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the frying pan by now. Love, Mum
  11. Husband took the wife to a disco on the weekend. There was a guy on the dance floor giving it large - break-dancing, moon-walking, back flips, the works. The wife turned to husband and said: "See that guy? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down." Husband says: "Looks like he's still f*****g celebrating!!!"
  12. Hi, My question is on behalf of my father, I recently discovered debt letters, bailiff warnings and threatening letters addressed to him, the problem is my father has early onset of dementia and this has been recognized by various health experts, he was found to be unable to deal with mail correspondence among other things. A letter from council bailiffs has arrived stating we are to attend your property shortly to remove goods in connection with your unpaid council tax debt due xxx council. Our removal teams are in your area throughout the coming week and will enforce the liability order without any further notice. My father is not of sound enough mind to deal with anything like people coming to the door, I know this could also have serious implications on his state of mind and health too. What can i do about this? Is there any guidelines to help when dealing with someone who has health, mental issues like dementia? I know that they have been previously informed of his condition by a third party and have not seen any further correspondence untill now with this letter. Any help would be greatly appreciated please.
  13. My laptop fried so I claimed my house contents insurance with the Halifax. It wasn't a hugely expensive laptop and there was a £200 excess but I went ahead as I couldn't afford to replace at the time. The claim was accepted and they sent me out a new laptop. It was £399.97 and exceeds the specs of my old machine which was a few years old. On getting it set up today I've realised I really don't like it. It's not the performance of it but partly the aesthetics and partly quality. I hate the style of it (black glossy fingerprint magnet) and it also has a dull screen image. I don't know whether I'm being overcritical as I'm ****ed off that they pick the model for you (a bit crap since I've in essence paid more than they did) or whether I've got a valid issue. Would I have a leg to stand on as regards forcing them to change it or are these sort of things legally bulletproof.
  14. It doesn't really matter if you don't pay, the odd few that come to sites like this and see they don't have to pay are few and far between so they still make a pretty packet. Government statistics show nearly 1.17 million electronic requests were made in 2010/11 by private parking companies for vehicle details from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Figures show drivers are paying more than £93 million in charges, based on a private parking fine of £80, compared to £21 million five years before. The latest DVLA figures were obtained by Nick Smith, the Labour MP for Blaenau Gwent after he received complaints from constituents about a car park in Ebbw Vale, south Wales "I do not believe that British drivers are becoming less law-abiding,” he said. "Some motorists believe that some car park operators are only interested in penalising the motorist at every single opportunity for the most trivial infraction."
