  1. Hi guys, this is an odd one, bare with me. A couple hired a car and the same night broke their window. Few minutes later the gang they had planned with drove away the car. Some time later when the tracker was removed or when it was secure they alerted the couple. Few minutes later they called the police. The story the couple used is we were asleep, we were woken by some noise and after looking for the cars etc we realized the keys were missing and that the window was broken. Unknown to them their tenant over heard many things including them visiting the gang leader few times to claim their money. He also over heard the couple explain to the police and some insurance people including the person they had hired the car from. All the tenant knows is name and color of the car and rest of the above including the gang leaders name. Now with the above information if he goes to the police I am sure police have absolutely nothing to go on. However if he takes a lie detector test and with a written statement via a solicitor police might do something however the lie detector test is not accepted. So only conclusion is to find the insurance company as they use these methods. So I am sure if he goes via the insurance company he may get better results of them being prosecuted? What is the best method of them being screwed over this crime. (the tenant is their relative. He stayed until his studies were over, as he declined to marry the wife's relative, things went sour. They informed his family who were also backing the tenant with finance for studies many stories which forced them to stop. He failed to do his masters and had to take a rubbish job. Many years later now he has discovered all this.) This crime is at least 6 years old. Anyone know the best way of them being done for this crime. BTW they got cheated. The gang leader did a runner and when he appeared he said the car was stopped by Nigerian customs. So no sale no produce. Ali

  3. Hi I am looking for some advice/information on behalf of my son. He has a small window cleaning business. He has also had learning difficulties all of his life, but gets by with a little (lot really!) of help from us. Every so often I check his bank account (Yes, I have his full knowledge and consent) to try and make sure he is managing his money OK and check for 'odd' transactions as he is quite susceptible to being [problem]med, basically he will sign up for anything anybody tells him to. I recently noticed a Direct Debit for £58.00 to a company called RCP Media. I asked him about this and he told me he had been telephoned by this company a couple of months ago. They claimed to be working closely and tirelessly with various crime prevention agencies and were looking for "honest" business's like his to advertise in their "Widely distributed" magazine. They wrapped him around their little finger and he 'jumped' at the chance to have an advert with such a distinguished magazine, particularly as being in this magazine would show he is a trusted business and the vulnerable and elderly would be confident in using his services. Shortly after this phone call (a few days) they sent him an email showing his 'advert' with a price tag of £174.00. He is unable to find this email (probably deleted knowing him) but the gist of the email was: This is your advert, the fee is £174 to be paid within 14 days (no exceptions). If you want to change the advert (free of charge) reply to the email stating your requirements. Additionally, whilst we can change the advert before print, you are now obligated under contract and the advert can't be cancelled and must be paid for. He explained he could not afford that amount (this is true, he lives (much to our annoyance) off his small overdraft). They agreed on a three month payment plan. He has paid twice so far with the third payment overdue. I was going to telephone them today and pay the outstanding amount, but decided to look (or try to) further into this. I have found a couple of sites that seem related and they all claim this is a [problem]. I have asked around, he has also asked many of his customers, if they have ever seen this magazine and specifically his advert and nobody has ever heard of or seen this magazine. They sent him a copy to show his advert was live. I can see this magazine on their website, minus his advert. So it seems the only advert for his business is in the only magazine that exists (his copy). Alarm bells are doing overtime. I think this is a [problem]. They make it plain on the back of their invoice that this MUST be paid. Late fees of £35 will be added if not paid on time. I was wondering if anybody else reading this has had any dealings with this company or knows anything about this company. I am not comfortable with this, but at the same time, if he "HAS" to pay this or end up with CCJ or other problems I'd rather not allow it go that far. I just feel mad at him and even more mad with this company who seem on the face of it very genuine, but with no sign of this advert and their pushy tactics I think there is more to this. Sorry for the lengthy post and hopefully somebody will know something about this business. The website can be googled. Search for RCP Regional Crime Prevention. Looks like a genuine site, but I guess that's the idea. https://www.rcpcrime.com/home https://twitter.com/RCPCRIME1 https://www.facebook.com/rcpmagazine/ Thanks.
  4. The ONS has today estimated that there are 5 million cases of fraud a year, with at least half being online. Much of this was not included in previous crime survey stats which showed reductions in crime. I have always believed that crime has not reduced, but it has simply changed or Police don't investigate it. Most shoplifting is not reported and is dealt with on a civil basis. Fraud reporting has been made difficult, with Police not investigating in most cases. When i look locally, in the last year or so, i believe crime has increased. A local newsagent was burgled, a cashpoint was broken into, there have been raids on several properties growing canabis. The Police do seem to be able to catch the criminals more quickly from intelligence, CCTV etc. The newsagent burglars were caught within a few weeks and came from about 40 miles away. They were obviously rubbish criminals, as they had already been to prison for similar crimes.

  8. Hello, I live in a block of flats that is on private land with a private carpark. It is overseen by a Management Company and has a factor - both of which appear to be ran by the same person. 2 months ago our BMW X6 was driven into/damaged and whoever caused the damage left without leaving any contact/insurance details. Yesterday, our VW Golf that was only bought 2 weeks ago was also crashed onto and again no details have been provided. Between both incidents, CCTV has been installed in the lobby of each block and also outside each block. I contacted the factor yesterday who told me the camera only covers the footpath outside and can't see the carpark. I went into the cafe at the top of the road (the whole road/land is gated off from the main road) to see her camera which she has on a TV inside her kitchen and I can clearly see a 180 degree angle around the entrance to her cafe which extends right out to the carpark and the canal outside - which the factor previously denied that the CCTV reached, stating it was the footpath only which I know is not true. My car was parked right in front of our block which has one of the round cameras above the door so I am 99% confident it is visible on the CCTV (if recording!). Today I phoned them again asking for them to review the camera or provide access and they point blank refused stating 'they are not trained to access this'. The police also cannot asisst as it happened on private property. My questions are: Do I have any rights to the CCTV? Technically this has been a hit and run/crime, if I don't have access, who does? We pay a factors fee, no one notified us about the CCTV being installed, is this regulated and surely this is there for our security which has now been breached, do I have any rights at all? What is the point in having it when I cannot rely on it when an incident has occured and has been caught on camera? The management company is a private limited company, is it normal for the factor to be overseen by another board etc? We don't see eye to eye with the person who is the director of the management company and who runs the factor as his mother lives below us and there have been problems with a leak that came from a communal pipe however she prefers to blame this on us and give us agro, and he is the person blocking all of my requests to try and find out who crashed into my car and drove off. I hope this makes sense, all help is appreciated, and this happened in Scotland - as I am aware that laws differ between E&W and Scotland. Thank you.
  9. Hi CAGgers My first post. Two wrongs :- 1. My brother had his work van ticketed in an area parking wardens are not allowed to enter. 2. His truck taken away from outside his house by alleged bailiffs who now demand £1100 to resolve it. He was doing major gas pipe work on the main road and had coned off a section of the road for health & safety reasons and to park his van within. A council parking warden entered the coned area and put a parking ticket on his van. He tells me his van, although his, was exempt from parking tickets as the company he works for has an exemption certificate. Further, for health and safety reasons the parking warden was not allowed to enter the coned area. He has since left that job and the court/council have not contacted his old job to confirm the exemption certificate stands in this case. Can anyone suggest how to fight this? Thanks in advance
