  1. Last week there was a hoo-ha at work and management are saying that gifts from staff to staff should be: For birthdays only Up to £10 only. And for xmas only gifts for £10 purchased via a secret santa should be allowed. Now, at what point can the county council tell me what I can spend my money on and the amount I can spend? I'm told it's covered in the behaviours policy. After taking union advise they recommended not giving or receiving at all. At what point is a member of staff a friend? I was told if I give a present outside of the work premises this still counts. Any suggestions / points if view (in law)? Thank you.
  2. Hi, I wondered if anyone has a view on this. I am a manager of a team in a media company. I report to the Director. Some of them are off sick and sent me their e-mail login details so I could chase some decisions on potential business. I discovered for one of them (been with me for over a year) that they have been sending e-mails to the rest of the team slagging me off (in the subject line - so hard to miss) such as: "F**k him, what a pr*ck!" and "Arrogant b@st@rd". I feel this undermines me as some of my team members are relatively new and this seems to be a campaign to get everyone against me. I had a quiet word with my Director and he took it serioulsy (said it was unacceptable) at first but then e-mailed me later to say that on reflection, it's no big deal as I am not here to be liked, he's not liked etc etc However, I am under severe pressure always to have my team performing and I feel that this is not helping. I really feel this undermines my position and harms my prospects of performing as a manager. Any advice as how to deal with the matter?
