  1. I end up in some strange places when doing a little research. Recently I came across this Debt Clock. Good heavens I thought, prodded myself a few times to check I was not having a nightmare. Then got hypnotised for about ten minutes till I had to lie down for a while to recover from the shock. Now I am certainly not an economist but wonder if this debt is true. And I know there are wise ones in these forums that can answer difficult questions. I looked elsewhere as well but for now this post will do. Just a couple of questions. 1-What would happen if we took the batteries out of this clock and said we cannot pay back this debt. 2-I see many towns sinking into debt and struggling like never before. Cutting back till they can cut no more. Absolutely skint to put it mildly. What would happen if a town said Thats it we are bust, we can do no more, it is affecting our town and its people far too much. 3-A silly question possibly, would a Government knowing that they are skint risk the health of a community in the outside hope that something like Fracking half the country away would possibly reduce this debt.Kind of desperation thought. I know at the moment to some reading my threads elsewhere possibly think I am obsessed with Fracking.Certainly worried for sure. Just another thought out there for people to have their say. Oh yes a link-That clock that is driving me mad possibly.Someone whip the Battery away. The UK national debt grows at a rate of £5,170 per second! http://www.nationaldebtclock.co.uk/
  2. Early last year my husband received a county court summons for £11,500 for a credit card debt sold on to a DCA. He replied and defended the action on the basis of the limited information on the summons and that he was awaiting a reply to the CCA letter sent to them on the day the summons was received. He never received a copy of the CCA, just a letter from them saying the debt was no longer enforceable and they could not proceed any further through the courts, but would he please call them to discuss a repayment plan. They also promised to forward the copy of the CCA. That was over a year ago and we are still haven’t received the CCA, but what he did not advise them was the debt would not really be statute barred until last October , three months after their letter. Move forward to now, and I have received a letter from the same DCA and they are chasing a debt for £8.250 for a card of mine. This will become statute barred in the middle of August when it will be 6 years since the last payment. I received a letter from them dated 6 April but not received until 12 April, saying if I did not contact them within 14 days they would commence legal action. My understanding of statute barred debts is they expire six years after the last payment or admission of the debt and the creditor has until this time to obtain judgement. Is this correct and can the DCA request to the courts an extension this period for the time it takes to transfer to a local court and to a hearing? The default for this will expire soon and I am l keen to keep as clean a record as possible after eight years of financial misery. I appreciate I am morally wrong but this DCA will have purchased the debt for peanuts,
  3. I have recently discovered that the clock on my economy 7 electricity meter is seven hours slow. I use my high power useage appliances like washing machine and tumble dryer at night to take advantage of cheap rate power charges. I now discover that all that use is being charged at peak rates. I have no idea how long this has been happening for but the meter was installed in 2008. I have recently changed supplier and I have asked them to come and check the meter. They cannot come and look till the end of May. I also have an outstanding balance with my old supplier that i have been paying off. If the check confirms what i have found what can I do about the overcharging that may have been happening for years? My current supplier says they I can query it with them when the meter check has been done. I have raised a dispute with my old supplier but surprise surprise they arent being very helpful. They say my current supplier must supply them with amended readings if it is found the meter is faulty. It all seems very complicated!
  4. Hi , Wonder if anyone can help me. I have just moved into an electric only flat with economy 7 meter. Have noticed just the high rate moves and not the low rate on the meter even if I put on my heating, washing and water at night. I had a look at the meter and I think the clock is wrong . Have attached pictures, can anyone tell me what time the meter is reading I took these pictures around 00:15. I assume the pointer at the bottom is how you tell the meter time which is current on 15:00 however am not sure any help will go a long way Many thanks

  7. It's getting close to the SB clock on a number of alleged debts, I've sent 'prove it' letter with no reply they just transfer the 'debt' on and I get a new DCA to play with. I'm well used to the threat'o'grams but I have 2 large amounts (both over 10k) going SB in October and November, both are 'owned' by Lowell. Recently I've had a 'we found you' letter from Fredrickson, I sent a "Well done I was never hiding/prove it" letter, but before this has got there (recorded) I've had another letter, again 'considering' legal action. I'm going to post the 'prove it' letter again but wondered if they were to start legal action it takes a few months to get going and then there is the court date to settle. If they were to start formal legal action but by the time it went to court the SB clock had run out, would they be able to enforce the debt, or is that just bad luck on their part?
