  1. Hi all, is there a section where I can ask buy to let questions? I don't really see anything suitable except for maybe the banking section.
  2. Compensation is to be paid to 59,000 customers of Buy as You View, which rents out furniture, TVs and other electronic goods on hire purchase. The City watchdog, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), raised concerns about the clarity of fees and the treatment of customers in arrears. It also questioned the way customers were given payment meters to restrict access to TVs. Dunraven Finance will pay £939,000 in compensation. The company, which uses the trading name Buy as You View, will pay an average of nearly £16 per customer, by adjusting bills or in cash payments. It will contact customers directly. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35871214
  3. Hi all, Just give you a quick run down of the operation of the local station and route to hopefully clear up any confusion before any advice can be given. Our local station is an unmanned station, as are all the stations on the branch line, apart from the two terminals, in this case Strood and Paddock Wood, and the middle main station being Maidstone West. All the stations have a machine placed at each entrance in which to purchase a Permit to Travel ticket which can then be exchanged for a travel ticket by either the issuing ticket office at Strood, Maidstone West or Paddock Wood, or by buying a ticket from the conductor/guard on board the train. However, in the last month, the types of trains used have changed from a 3 coach class 377 with a driver and conductor/guard, to a 2 coach class 466 driver only. The Permit to Travel machine at our local station always appears to be broken, either it is jammed with coins where it won't accept anything, or the coins just slip through to the rejected coin collector, although there is a time displayed on the machine to indicate that it is turned on. Over the last two weeks, my daughter has twice been issued with a £20 penalty fare by Revenue Protection as she wasn't in possession of a valid permit to travel or travel ticket, although she wasn't able to purchase one in the first place. Revenue Protection were at the first station she would have been able to purchase a ticket from, and before the ticket office, therefore stopping her from purchasing a ticket as she has done on numerous occasions before. She did state that the Permit to Travel machine wasn't working, but they said it was, even though they weren't at the station. She paid the first Penalty instantly, but she want's to appeal this second and any subsequent penalties that she may occur if the opportunity to purchase a Permit to Travel isn't available. Hoping that some of you good guys and girls on here can offer some advice and ammunition so she can win her appeal. Many thanks, Bloke 199
  4. Hi, I purchased a period return ticket from Oxford to Manchester last week. I didn't have a problem on the way up, but I had an issue with using the return ticket on my back. I don't remember which stop it was after but, somewhere between Manchester and Birmingham New Street, the guard came through and stamped the return half of my ticket. When I reached Birmingham New Street, a new guard replaced the previous one. When he came through to check the tickets, he told me that I had already used my ticket and I could only use it once. I explained to him that the ticket had been stamped by the other guard, who he had replaced, on the same train, but he didn't believe me. He told me that I would have to purchase another ticket. As he was threatening to get the police involved and being intimidating, I begrudgingly paid up. Is it possible to get my money back for this ticket? I shouldn't have had to purchase it. Unfortunately the second guard confiscated both halves of my ticket, so I have no proof that I already had a ticket.
  5. Hi everyone My dad is over 55 now and wants to move as much money as he can out of his pensions and into UK government gilts. He's sending off his application to join the approved group of investors soon but needs help with withdrawing the money. He believes he'll make more interest and that the gilts are a safer bet with the way the market currently is. He was thinking of buying a 5 year and 10 year gilt but doesn't want to pay the tax to withdraw the money from the pension pots. He's got three pension pots, I know you can take 25% without tax but does that apply to all pots or just overall? and would there be a way to take the rest out tax free or with low tax applied? Thanks Andrew
  6. Hi Just a quick one.....bought a ticket for what i thought was 2.5 hours parking (on tariff paid for two hours and added extra 50p in case I went just over two hours, but next tariff was 3 hours and more than I paid) but if I now pay the fine can I take off the £2.50 I have already paid? Thanks in advance! Sam
  7. Afternoon, I purchased a car on a lease to buy from a company based in Scotland, I have never missed a payment until now the very last payment, The arrange was 30 monthly payments to which 29 have been repaid. The last payment and admin fee are over due by 3 weeks and they are calling myself and my mum & dad, sister. I have explained in writing the full balance will be repaid on 28 August. However they said they will visit my home address to discuss the matter, on another point as they have the spare key can they remove the car ? As I have repaid fully apart the last payment. Car Value £3k Outstanding £456.67 Can they remove the car ? or would have to get a court order ?
  8. hi, i've got a couple of things on buy now pay later with very. in the past i've paid them off before the interest kicks in and the others should be no different, though i do have a big one at £500 due next month. i received a letter today advising the apr will be going upto 49.9% and will apply to purchases not yet due for payment. is it contractually fair that they can increase the apr on something i bought 11 months ago when the apr was lower? thanks, kris
  9. Hello, As experienced by other Hastings Direct customers on here, Hastings are refusing to allow me to buy my car back as part of a settlement on my written off car. They have agreed to release the car back to me, but only in order for me to conduct an independent valuation of the vehicle, insisting that a buy back option is still not possible. The car does require quite some work, but I am adamant that I want to buy the car back. The sentimental value of the car is huge, and I am utterly furious that I am not being offered any option to retain the car. This has been a heartbreaking episode thus far, and me nor my family wish to see the car go. My little girl is distraught. Any help from similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and regards.
  10. I have been looking for a vehicle to purchase second hand and finally came across an Xtrail which I viewed on Saturday. As it was close to their closing time I just discussed the financial aspect of things as I am currently in the transition of changing circumstances and therefore documentation is sparce until August. They were going to discuss my circumstances with the finace company on Monday and let me know. I heard from the finance company on Monday that all was well and als=most immediately received a call from the dealer with their usual salesman patter, "ther eis someone else looking at the vehicle and it will be a first come, first served basis" and I naturally replied, I don't surcumb to pressure, if they want it, they can have it because I don't buy a car without having test drove it. He wasn't too pleased about it. I went over on Tuesday with my son to drive it and he heard a noise from the rear which was highlighted and discussed with the Manager of the site. He assured me that the vehicle will go through a 160 point check and will put 12 months MOT on it as the current one expires in August. Based on his assurances, I paid £100 deposit for the vehicle to be taken off sale and signed the Sales Order, finance agreement etc. We agreed that I would pay the balance of the deposit (£400) on 25th June over the phone, and collect the vehicle on Friday 26th June because they said they were unable to carry out the MOT until the balance of the deposit had been paid. I have paid additional monies within the agreement for 12 months warranty but I am not sure who that is with. However, having discussed my excitement with friends, one of them has highlighted some poor reviews on the dealership and I am wondering if I have let myself in for some trouble next week? I know reviews are hit and miss as with all things but as my funds are extremely limited, I would appreciate your thoughts on whether I have been stupid in my process to purchase this vehicle and suggestions on how to proceed under the circumstances please. I note from their website they still have the vehicle for sale and have reduced the price by £100 Shelley
  11. I put some £200 Alesis speakers into cash converters in Beeston Leeds last month. The speakers were obviously working perfectly when I put them in, as they get tested every time. When I got home with them I noticed that the volume was half way up, which was far far too high, I didn't think much of it, I turned the speaker down before plugging them in and playing something through them, at which point I noticed the left passive speaker was completely gone. I took the speakers straight back down there expecting the worst and they said they will test them, at this point it was said that they have some guy who comes around to fix things. The next week I get a phone call saying that the speakers have been tested and that they have been blown and because it is not physical damage that they can take no responsibility for the breakage, which I really don't understand. I spoke today to the customer service and on a side note he said they were independently tested, which I'm not sure is the case since they seem to have some guy who working with them all the time. Basically I can get these speakers fixed for £60-£80, but they will not even offer to pay half of that bill. There is actually CCTV off the where items are kept in the back, how could I get access to these recordings edit: I am requesting the CCTV as this is something that you can do, although it is chargeable
  12. Hi eveyone, new user here need some adice plz. ive read this online in my local paper GINA Carey, 22, of Wilson Street, Derby, was handed a two-month community order with curfew, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge for stealing a £575 television from Buy As You View, Derby, on June 27. Read more: http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/given-jail-sentences-cases-dealt-South-Derbyshire/story-25927874-detail/story.html#ixzz3Q8353dyO Follow us: @DerbyTelegraph on Twitter | derbytelegraph on Facebook says someone got community sentence and a fine for STEALING a tv from buy as you view!! £145 in total, not enough if you ask me!!! Serves em right if you ask me, if you don't pay what you owe then what do you expect question is will there be more people getting in trouble (maybe sent to prison?) for not paying their buy as you view (and others) reckon that would be a good thing as I hnow loads of people who just dont bother paying ever and its not fair on people like me who pay £12 month for a tv and never miss a payment pay every time lol!

  14. HP 13" Platinum Pavilion x360 Touchscreen Notebook Brighthouse pice - £1560 Currys price - £704 which also includes McAfee security, Microsoft Office & Cloud backup So £1560 - £704 = £856 so you can either buy a second one and get £150 cash back in hand or walk away with an HP Laptop and £856 in your hand not forgetting the extras you get from Currys.
  15. I just come across this mail address in my means off leaving how am filling with this so called AA REPAIR WARRANTY which is just taken money from people and when there is a propblem with their car you tell them to clear off. I have the AA repair warranty with the aboved car. my car is in prtfect condition untill recently it developed a problem with the first gear. i called tghe AA patrol team who come to see the car and advice i take it to my local VAT garage. car was sent to KENS AUTOS in croydon since few month ago they replace the clutch of this same car and it still under warranty. upon they investigating the problem with car, they said it was the flywheel so it must be change. job was carried and they phone the AA to inform them. the AA promised sending a technician to inspect the damage flywheel. the said technician visited the garage on the agreed date and sent a repot to the AA that the problem with the flywheel has been there for ages and this the information received from the garage. upon such information sent to the AA they refused to pay my claim. i have been to kens autos in croydon to ask them about this case and they said no information of such types was given to the technician when he come around their garage. CCTV evidence was shown to proof that no such communication took place there so meaning the technician has lied or given false information about my car to the AA hence refusing my claim. the garage confirmed that no such problem was with the car when they were changing the clutch. it it was they would have done both together avoiding further cos to me the technician is from a company called ACE. i wrote to them about what their technician has done. they then wrote to the AA to find out but was told to stop given me information or responding to me. this means it deliberately thing the AA is doing. I have been in touch with a team member by nae NASH and ADOM who told me they still stand by their wards and wont change anything. My next step is the court and i have already assigned the case to a solicitor because i see it as a total rip off from a company like the AA. WHY IS THE AA RIPPING OFF PEOPLE . WHY WHY WHY NEVER BUY AA CAR REPAIR WARRANTY
  16. Darrens brother, I took a car out for Darren since he couldn't get the finance to get it himself from car craft, everything went okay all the paper work was done then after a month the finance company got in contact with me demanding full payment for the car because I had broke the contract due to taking out finance for a 3rd party which I wasn't aware of while buying the car carcraft had told me they had done this loads of times with other customers and that it was perfectly fine.
  17. This is part real and part hypothetical. I'm currently hunting down a new second-hand car, and looking at private ads. I am getting bogged down in the new road tax legislation. I truly can't see how it's supposed to work. When I buy a car which is parked on the roadside, I become the owner of an untaxed vehicle since the existing tax no longer moves across to me with the car. I can go and tax it myself, assuming there's a post office within easy reach, or I can get to a secure computer, and there are no hiccups, etc. Meantime, I'm breaking the law. I am also the owner of an uninsured vehicle. So, likewise, I can then get insurance but all the while I'm doing that, I'm breaking the law by having it parked on the road. So far as I can tell, there's no requirement to demonstrate insurance when obtaining road tax - but do I still need it anyway, for their computers to validate the tax application? If so, I need to insure it before I go looking for a post office. I reason that I could tax and insure it before paying for it, but then I'm trying to tax a vehicle which already has another current road tax on it, and trying to insure a car which legally belongs to someone else, on the false basis that it's mine. What are people supposed to do??
  18. Hey I've had these BV turn up at my door 6 times in 3 days. Missed three weeks payments as I didn't know the bank had cancelled the direct debit and I had no letters from them. Told them countless amount of times I don't answer the door unless I know who it is. I'm a single mum 2 kids under 5 so it's just something I've always done and especially like tonight when they turn up at 6pm I text one of them and said I wouldn't be available until Tuesday as the kids are off school/nursery and I'm not having strangers in the house when they are here and all he said was it needs to be sorted this week. back to my question, next time if/when they turn up unaccounced and I don't know who it is can I phone the police? I get so paranoid but I don't live in the best area. i didn't know it was them until they left and seen the card through the door. i just seen someone at the door when i was peeking out the window Also seems a tad excessive turning up 6 times in 3 days
  19. Hi do not buy AA repair and cover warranty its a big [problem] the insurer is brc please be aware my car a 2005 Peugeot 407 broke down last Friday car was vibrating really bad as man came and said it was flywheel he towed me to local garage where they stripped gearbox they found that the flywheel dual mass had broken and seized so wasn't moving and not doing its job brc phoned and said it was not covered as its wear and tear now how can be that if its broken the flywheel has no wear on it they then stated that the clutch plate was worn down to rivets this is not the case there is thousands of miles left on all parts and if flywheel had not broken it would be still going car was not slipping at all just really bad vibration they say in there terms it is not covered for wear and tear but it doesn't say we do not cover cars over a certain age it is a big rip of so any part that fails they can say its down to wear they refuse to pay car is below average milage and fully serviced please helpa
  20. We own a buy to let flat in a converted office building. There are 12 flats altogether. We are expecting the current owners to offer to sell the freehold of the building in the near future. On the face of it, buying the freehold between us sounds like a good idea, but we don't really know what the pros and cons might be. Since the landlord can already get us to pay for things like a new roof, would we be any worse off owning a share in the freehold? One of the mortgage conditions was that they wouldn't lend on freehold flats, which is partly why we're dubious, but other than notifying them if we do buy a share is this likely to be a problem?
  21. Hi, We have bought fridge freezer (RL60GZEMG) from Currys .Freezer delivered on 10-Aug-2014 and was advised to leave for 8 hours before switching on which we did however afterwords noticed two faults with the fridge freezer. 1-Paint Fault on internal panel - It seems someone made a rework at manufacturing facility and its obvious when you open the door. We have paid £629 for brand new condition whereas this one should have been classified as outlet/discounted due to paint fault. I called Currys and they have booked engineer visit. Engineer came (14-Aug-2014) and took picture with his mobile phone (with broken screen) and advised to wait call from Samsung in 48 hrs. Today I received call from Samsung and they said its working as it should be and there is no fault with the fridge!!! 2- Second thing, Fridge motor was very loud. We waited an overnight to see if that was a loudness due to first kick off but wasn’t, it didn’t go away. I have decided to measure dB with my phone and it was showing 84dB whereas its advertised as 40dB. During the engineer visit i mentioned that point as well and he removed back cover and checked the motor (didn’t say nothing) and did not measure the loudness just said its normal wait until it wears out and it won’t make same sound!!! At the end we decided to return this back to Currys. I have send them an email on 11-Aug-2014 requesting return and no response received for a while and I have called Currys to say that under the cooling off 7 days I wish to return the item. They have told me that as the item has been powered on,they term it as having been "used" and as such they wont take it back. Now I’m quite frustrated and equally confused. Currys doesn't accept return back whereas I know we have statuary right to return anything back within first 14 days regardless of open/unopened condition of the item. Samsung doesn’t recognise above two points and i end up requesting another engineer visit but i do not want to play with fault card even though there is a genuine fault with the product. Can you please advise me how can get Currys to accept this return, who do i need to escalate this? to Ombudsman, Trade office or Citizen advise bureau honestly fed up with this and desperate for any help. Many thanks
  22. I was recently asked by a friend to find out if their council garage which is not attached to their propriety but across the street is part of the right to buy. They have rented it for over 30 years at a peppercorn rate of around £3 per month, but recently they shot up to £10 per week. several of the block are already privately owned already but the council are digging their heals in when they asked to but it, "as selling the garage might set a president". I looked around the gov website but can not find out this info.
  23. just wondering if bayv stating that you have to take their insurance or be covered by your own home contents insurance is the same codswollop as bright house? they do acknowledge that the extra warranty is optional just not this insurance.
  24. Hi, please can someone explain in greater detail the maximum discount for the Right to Buy scheme. I have read all the relevant literature Am I right in thinking that the maximum discount is 70% of the valuation of the property however this would be capped at £100,000 (London borough cap) So a property that is worth 350k in London is not going to be sold to the tenant for less than 250k. Assuming that the maximum discount applies. Much appreciated
  25. My ex partner had an accident in her car last week it was her own fault an accepted that straight away, she rang hastings to report and a body shop drove the damaged car to there shop an left her a 2 door ford ka bear in mind she has 3 young children to take everywhere, no contact from hastings unless u bug them at least twice a day for info on the case. When I got through to someone in the end after a long wait they said if the car is a total loss it will be recovered straight to a salvage yard, I asked what about her stuff and just got a wishy washy answer that they should let her know before taking it. After reading some of the story's on here soon as they said it was a loss I got it recovered home for her. Now the garage quoted a big bill what I think is daft personally so I said buy the car back and with the money I will repair it for her. Hastings then said they don't do it an said it's never heard of it before? She is waiting for what I am guessing is going to be daft offer for the car that she is still paying a loan off for to buy it in the first place. The car has had a large amount of money spent on it in the last year to get it looking perfect paint ect and I have carried out extensive amount of work so that its safe an reliable for her to carry my children round in. She is now left with a car she can't drive and because they says she has not got substitute car cover even though it's says it on the paper work she has no courtesy car. I personally think hastings are trying to pull a quick one and make some extra money by selling her car on to the salvage company. She has been with them now for 2 years but can guarantee she won't be renewing with them and I personally will NOT be recommending them to anyone from now on.
