  1. We recently had a neighbour park over the edge of our driveway - they were asked to move their car but refused, we called the local council who sent a parking warden on a scooter. When he arrived he confirmed the car (shown in the photo) was over the drive BUT I thought over the edge begins at the stone that tapers down to meet the road (Point A) where as he said only the last 10cm of the car was over which is more like Point B in the photo. Which is correct? Also 3 days later a Police Man came to our door about the incident - no idea where they got our details from we weren't expecting them and they were 3 days too late but I did ask the Policeman the same question and he didn't seem to know either. it would be good to get a concrete answer and have that well known.

  4. The ICO is taking action against two more cold call blocking companies, continuing the crackdown on nuisance calls. Poole-based Nuisance Call Blocker Ltd has been fined £90,000 and Telecom Protection Service Ltd, based in Bournemouth, has received an £80,000 fine. Both companies were found to be making unsolicited marketing calls to people registered on the official Telephone Preference Service while trying to sell products and services to block the type of cold calls they were making. https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/news-and-events/news-and-blogs/2015/11/ico-issues-fines-totalling-170-000-to-cold-call-blocking-companies/ Company fined £850,000 for millions of nuisance calls The National Advice Clinic, based in Lancashire, which also trades as the Industrial Hearing Clinic or the Central Compensation Office, made nearly 6 million calls between October 2014 and April 2015 about noise induced hearing loss claims has been fined £850,000 by the Claims Management Regulator https://www.gov.uk/government/news/company-fined-850000-for-millions-of-nuisance-calls ICO fines PPI claims firm £80,000 over 1.3m spam SMS deluge The Information Commissioner's Office has served up penalty of £80,000 to a PPI claims company that sent more than 1.3 million spam texts. 5. I have been in my property for just over 5 years. Each December I renew my tenancy through the Estate Agent (they just draw up a new Tenancy agreement each year, the Landlord manages the property). Each year, my standing order stops in November and then I have to go into the Estate Agents with my new signed contract any pay December's rent of £875. I payed December's rent just before Christmas in cash at the estate agents and thought nothing of it untili I received a call from them on 3rd January asking me to check my account as the Landlord had mentioned that he had received another payment from my bank on 27th December. I went into the bank and asked the cashier to look through my account and see if a payment had come out, despite the fact that my standing order should have finished last November. The cashier looked at my account and said no, a payment had not come out. I informed both my Landlord and the Agent and thought there had been a mix up somewhere until a week later when I couldn't take any money out. I called the bank( Santander) and the Lady I spoke to said yes £875 has come out of my account and that it was their fault the SO hadn't been cancelled. She explained that they would refund my money and try and get the other money back from my Landlord. The Bank were good to their word and the money was back in my account in less than 48hrs. I told my Landlord who then said that as the Bank had originally told me that the money had not left my account - he had spent it! He thought as it was their mistake he didn't think he should have to pay it back! Fast forward to today, I have come home from work to find a letter from Santander telling me that they have had no luck contacting my Landlord and that they will recover the money from my account within the next 10 days!!! I spoke with my Landlord who said that he hasn't heard from Santander, and somehow seems to think that the Estate Agents now need to get involved. All I want is for him to pay back the money, otherwise, I won't be able to pay for a pint of milk, let alone another months rent! I am really upset about this, in all the time I have been here, I have always paid the rent on time. I paid December's rent, I am up to date with all my rent. How can they threaten me with recovery of the money when they should really be chasing the Landlord? Any help/advice gratefully received!
  6. Work is due to start in January to unearth dozens of missing British Spitfires believed to have been buried in the Burmese jungle at the end of World War II. What began as one man's quest to discover the truth of claims that unused unassembled aircraft were packed into crates and buried by the RAF in Burma in 1945 has captured the imagination of a war games company and a team of experts, including archaeologists and scientists. They all gathered at the Imperial War Museum in London on Wednesday to outline their plans for the dig, due to get under way in the New Year. It is thought 36 planes could be lying undiscovered in Mingaladon - one of three sites where it is believed as many as 60 Spitfires in total may be located. It could also be one of the most fascinating discoveries in aviation archaeology” More: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20515659
  7. The Financial Services Authority, is investigating claims by a whistleblower that Britain's £300bn wholesale gas market has been "regularly" manipulated by some of the big power companies, exploiting weaknesses that echo the recent Libor scandal. Separately, the energy regulator Ofgem has been warned by a company responsible for setting so-called benchmark prices, ICIS Heren, that it had seen evidence of suspect trading on 28 September, a key date as it marks the end of the gas financial year and can have an important influence on future prices. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/nov/12/libor-like-manipulation-gas-markets
