Agreed cost was £10k, split as follows: £10 CC deposit upfront 3 installments of £3199.67 - paid by bank transfer Final 'snag' payment of £400 - UNPAID Builder did not complete / built to a sub-standard (see below) and did not respond to my follow ups over 3 months I ...

  4. ...Hello, I employed a builder to do a loft conversion, and renovate my house which I had just bought. He quoted £72,000 to do the work including all electrics, plumbing, plastering etc. The quote was itemised and he visited the property twice and priced up materials etc before emailing it to me. He said that the work would be completed by the end of last summer. He requested an initial payment for materials into his wife's bank account quite ...
  5. ... plumbing and electrics. Works were started mid-June and we were making bank transfers to the builder upon request for materials/labour. It should be noted at this stage that the contractor is the owner of a small limited company and he employs a small number of lads to complete the work on his behalf. Part-way through the job, the builder identified that our house wasn't level so additional work was required on the roof. This cost £1...
  6. .... No one came. No information. We called them after lunch: the secretary said she would talk to the builder responsible for the groundworks. On the same day we were informed that the builder would begin on 22/03, 9.00am. On 22/03 no one came, but the builder called us to tell us he would come one day later, 23/03, 1.00pm. On 23/03 he came, examined the ground, and asked us additional questions regarding the groundworks. Since it is a hi...
  7. ...would appreciate any help to my predicament. I recently had some work done to my house and the builder charged me £3000 via his paypal terminal. I paid him £3000 using my barclaycard. A day later he told me that paypal had suspended his account and that I would need to pay him £3000 in cash. Trusting him, I paid him the money by bank transfer. Things went bad with the builder and he did not complete the work I paid him fo...
  8. ...I started a building work recently and appointed a builder who agreed by email to complete the job for a cash price. I kept paying him to his bank account through my online banking. Initially he demanded money for materials and supplied it and then kept on asking for more money for materials but suddenly disappeared with £6000. He sent me an email stating that his mum was seriously ill abroad and he needed to travel urgently. He ...
  9. ... at some point we may need to move her bed downstairs to make things easier. Anyway we asked a builder, family friend of 20 years to give us a price on the work. we felt we could trust him and he would be sypathetic to mums situation. He emailed us a quotation and then popped round to finalise the details, the pice was what we could afford and the time scale of 8 to 12 weeks was fine. The extension was to add to what already existed an...
  10. ...lly need some advice from you! Sorry it's a long story. I posted a job (with a picture) on 'mybuilders' website to fix my wall in my shower room because there was a leak from my shower a month ago. I said we needed someone to fix the wall and reput the new skirting. one guy messaged us that he could help and he gave us a quote for £150. I checked with him if the quotation included the materials and the labour and he said yes...
  11. ...aid by BC or anyone else. Write to BC confirming that you were told that the BC payment to the builder had been declined and THAT is why you made a further payment by bank transfer which you can prove by bank statement. Accordingly, you require that BC refund the £3,000 to you immediately. If BC refuse this, you can seek a refund using s.75 CCA 1974 where the 2 banks (BC and the builders receiving account) have to communicate and reach a de...
  12. ...Hi all Our windows need replacing with double glazing and our builder who has done a lot fo work for us quoted £4500 and asked for £1500 up front to buy the windows. The works quoted for were for a new carpet and a set of windows. The builder promised faithfully that the windows would be made ready for the 9th of May. When that date came, he said that they weren't ready. This was his reason/excuse for not starting everyday up to Frida...
  13. ...he could not fit the wood burner whilst it was still there which was quite understandable. A builder working next door came and had a look and arranged for an electrician to come and make the socket safe, which he did and he advised that he had no idea where the wires were coming from as they were encased in concrete in the chimney breast. The fitter said he was still not prepared to fit the wood burner as it stands. We rang the shop...
  14. ...Clearly all the legal talk about Tomlin orders worked. Builder has just paid in full by bank transfer. Should I wait a couple of days before marking the claim as paid. paranoid the bank transfer could get reversed. Can't think how. Just amazed he paid up so quick in the end....
  15. ...I took a punt and issued a new court claim against the builder personally and he again ignored it, I've been able to request another default judgement. My next thoughts are to enforcement, which I hope won't be so difficult as I have a CCJ against a person and not a Ltd company: - He has property, solely owned and in positive equity - I'm considering cutting to the chase and requesting a charging order - I know he banks with Santa...
  16. ... people I'm afraid. Any advice please? I am feeling bad of myself as I have instructed a wrong builder and ruined every plan we have....
  17. ...I am trying to claw back some money from my cowboy builder. I have just found out that some of the money that I transferred to him was to his personal bank account and NOT his company account. Given that his company is a legal entity, is there anything I can do to claw back the money I sent (via bank transfer) to the cowboy's personal bank account. I am assuming this is illegal. But could my bank get my money back in ...
  18. .... regarding the circumstances, I would not believe that these are excruciating circumstances beyond builder's control (for eg : my car broke down that's why I could not come, it was someone's b'day that's why he did not come today etc). This is a side extension being done on a chalet house. There were 4 payment schedules mentioned in the contract (with the final installment to be paid after the work completion) based on the level of work ...
  19. ..., cheque had not even been sent yet!! I was given another option, go in branch and open a cash builder account and they will transfer it in for me (again refusing to allow me to keep my current account with which the money was in, refusing me to withdraw any of it also and refusing to transfer it in to an account other than a nationwide one) I opened the account instantly in branch and even had to pay a £1 to open it! They then ph...

  21. ... to accept this and there footnote states "could not be competed due to the poor workmanship of the builder". I know we sound very stupid, unfortunately we were focused on mum's health and thought we could trust the CB as we have known him for 20 years. We have loads of photos and a diary of it all and we have sent him 4 registered letters. I hope i post this correctly and please let me say how gatefold for your comments we are. ...

  23. ...Hi guys, I recently employed a builder to complete major works to my house. All was going well until just after I paid the second instalment of 17k. I paid via bank transfer using LTSB internet portal. The builder went missing and I have not seen him since. I have had a CCJ awarded against him etc. My question is, can my bank recover the payment due to not receiving the service or goods that I paid for? Thanks in advance....
