Hi All, I have sent the letters to the dca and the council as suggested.If the bailiffs do turn up what is the minimum or maximum charges they can legally charge as the debt seems to be rising without any reason or justification. about £140 between letters. many thanks, Daj39

Hi Watchdog, Talking with my wife she is sure when she left the property she owed no council tax.It is also in her maiden name.but she thinks she left the property before the end of the tennancy agreement,she had fully paid up,she thinks the next tennants got away with out paying and now the council are chasing her.But she has no way to prove this as it was 8 years ago.Also whats is a cca request ? Hi, I am quite new to this.I am looking for some advive on my wife's debt.Her mother has just recieved a few letters from a collection agency ( my wifes previous address ) about a council tax debt dated over 8 years ago. She assures me she owes no money to the council and checking her credit history she has no CCJ,s against her.I am unsure of our rights where the baliffs are concerned, and they have said they will be visiting my mother in laws house and she is worried about this. Also she had recieved no other correspondance from the council in the 8 years to say she owed this money. So it has come right out of the blue.Should she contact the council direct or the debt collection company? can somone help? Many thanks Daj39
