  1. My Dad owns his own flat on the ground floor of a council flat. He returned home one day recently to discover flooding in his flat and no working lights, he was told it was due to a fire on the 8th floor, only he lives on the ground floor. As he wasn't in, we don't know how this has specifically happened, but he has recently had sprinklers installed. We are struggling to work out how to go about getting the lights repaired, he has tried to ask people in his building, but as he owns his flat they haven't been forthcoming with any advice. I have found the policy for his home insurance and can only see contents insurance, I can't see any additional cover. My Dad is 76 and partially sighted, so he's going to need help getting to the bottom of this. Would the council have expected him to have building insurance that I'm not aware of and are they liable for the flooding? Any advice on where to start would be a big help.
  2. That sounds like a plan! I don't like the way these people operate so it gives me a good feeling to be able to get advice from people like you who really understand the process. I'm going to get the letter together tomorrow. Thanks again
  3. Thanks IdaInFife and the GodMother, I didn't know you could do that! Won't that just start them up again and make them more persistant if they do still have it?
  4. Thanks saintly 1, think I have some more reading to do
  5. Thanks Michael, Looks like I have another 8 months left then..... I think my last payment was around 03/2003. Not really sure what my best course of action is!
  6. Hey there, I am being persued by a DCA over a credit card that I had around 11 years ago. They seem very determined and I'm not sure what my best course of action is. I can't afford to pay it off in full.......... which is why it's still a debt, they've offered me a settlement which I can't afford either. If they can't legally collect then I'll refuse to pay it but I want to know where I stand before I do this. When does the 6 year ruling apply to, by this I mean is it from the date you originally defaulted? Any advice you can give me would be great.
  7. Hi there, I signed up about a year ago...... and in my usual way I seem to have gone the long way about getting started on this. My frustration is with the Halifax, after I stopped using their services (didn't close my account tho) I forgot about my upset towards them. Foolishly I thought I would put it behind me and started using my credit card only to just get stung again and be told that they won't be renewing my card now it's ran out. Despite only having 4 problem payments in the last 2 years they're taking into account the 3 years prior to that. When I tried to complain saying that they were discriminating against me even though I had completely cleared my account off around 18 months ago and my payment history had improved they said they couldn't understand my complaint. This has brought back the old wounds! Stacey
  8. Thanks Scott & deller1, I've always been a letter writer when the banks have cheesed me off but this site has really opened my eyes to how the tables can really be turned on those greedy so-&-so's. Gonna take back what's mine and pass on this link to all my friends who have also been unfortunate enough to fall on hard times. I know a lot of people that the banks have been stinging on the regular so it looks like you'll get a load more newbies coming you way. Keep up the good work! Power to the people:wink:
  9. Hi there, I too am suffering from bank fatigue, and this camel's back is well and truly broken! Something tells me that the road to recovery is clearly signposted on this site. I feel that help is at hand! Thanks guys
