hey halifax people are bloody heartless... just going through my statements dating back from 2001 and in december 2003 due to a debit card payment of £5 (which i coulnt pay) , they charged me £30 three times plus £28 in jan and £28 in feb, thats nearly £150 just cus i couldn't pay £5 debit payment..... wow its stupid..... :o

hiya, im kind of confused about something. i had a halifax account for around 5 years, basically what happened this summer is that my phone insurance tried to take out the money by direct debit bit there was no money in there so the bank charged me the standard £38. Then what they done they charged me twice more in the same month even though i recieved a letter stating that they were going to charge me further £38 at the end of the next month but as i was getting paid in like 2 weeks i didn't do anything about it, however when i went to see whether i was paid or not i found that they closed my account without even letting me know. this happened in the summer. can anyone let me know whether i can still claim as the account is closed. the sad thing is, with my account i couldnt even go overdraft, i never missed used the account or anything apart from the direct debit payments where there was no money in the account. it really upset me that they closed my account... i hate halifax now..... feel depressed -

hey thanks for the advice, i just recieved another call today and the agent made it sound like it was all my fault that they were charging me soo much, i told her she was harassing me, that i don't want then to call me but she said till i paid the charges i will be getting another call 3 days later. Made me feel like im so low or something.... going to send them the letter telling them to stop... which address do i send it to? thanks i feel better already

wow i used to feel like i was the only one... capital one has left me feeling soo low, i get phone calls from them every couple of days, even after i explain them the situation two days late another person calls asking for the charges to be cleared on the account etc.. so one time i got so upset that i took it out on the caller, telling her it was her fault i couldnt pay off the charges cuz they kept on adding more charges even when i payed the amount they wanted, didnt let her talk so she shut the phone in my face... i think maybe there should be a standard letter template we could all send to the complaints office. im going to sleep well knowing im not a victim of capital one anymore.

Hiya, i just discovered this site and im so grateful. believe it or not, till like 3 hours ago i used to think it was normal for the bank to charge me if i wasnt able to pay my credit card instalments on time, i get charged around £40 a month and i dont work at the mo. as i am a student. and not only that but iam a law student and i cant believe that i thought i deserved the charges. anyways im going to be sending out a letter to the two banks (barclays and capital one) requesting statement information. thanks sooo much for all the advice on the site.
