Why oh why dont the DVLA send peoples licences and sensitive documents by a more reliable traceable means of postage? I sent my licence off for a change of address over a month ago and called them as its never taken this long before. Got through to someone eventually after the maze of bloody recorded messages and options to be told it was sent out within a week of them recieving the changes, that ones had to be cancelled and a new one sent apparently. So is someone now nicked my identity I dont know of? Doubt they will get far trying to get credit etc if they try as my credit file is minced due to BR. Its just so damn annoying when you cant trust people you should be able to not to have sticky fingers. I guess I feel violated in a way not knowing if its being missused or not. I was beginning to think they had kept my licence for some weird reason.
  2. We are regretfully having to cancel our beloved o2 broadband because its moving time and they still dont yet do the area we are moving to. However they are being great about it because they cant supply us in the new area so are letting us cancel using the 100 day money back guarantee, we were just happy to cancel but at least the cash can go towards paying greedy BT for broadband. Technically BT is the only viable choice for the area we are moving to. Id rather eat rusty nails than go with BT etc but what choice do you have when you need the internet. I hope im not back in a few weeks complaining about BT, wont hold my breath though. o2 PLEASE hurry and expand your network coverage in Derbyshire! *begs on knees*
  3. I passed in 1996 not long before all the new rules came in, I had to send my paper licence back for change of address a few years ago so it was a new photo one issued, all my catagories are still there for 7.5 etc. I would contact them and ask for it to be rectified free of charge since its a mistake on their part, saves a lotta hasstle if you get a producer from a cop.
  4. Im sure we sent a version which had "we do not acknowledge any debt" then it went on to say and given we had not acknowleged any debt for over 6 yrs and this was confirmed by the information they gave basically or words to that effect. Anyways either way they had no proof and no way of enforcing the debt. Id just CCA them 1st off. Im sure his ex had something to do with it, she did it with other things which I got slammed on her.
  5. SDFS, heard a lot of people getting these turning up out the blue. We had one but Fredricksons chased us. Funny thing is we have never had nor delt with catalogue companies especially not choice or littlewoods! The debt according to their last date of acknowledgement was statute barred but they refused to accept that, CCA'd them and still waiting. The file that appeared on his credit file dissapeared when they failed on the CCA request, guess they had no proof. You probably have the same name as someone they are trying to get money out of.
  6. I just type it as normal or get a free fancy handwriting font online as that can be proven not to be mine.
  7. If you have proof and they have the audacity to go as far as court after sending the above then your the one who can sit with all that evidence with a smug grin on your face. They have to foot the bill for it if proved wrong, also if last contact was 2002 it would be coming up for statute barred, this is when you hear from scummy DCA's chancing their mitt.
  8. I had friends like that once until a Judge person took them all away, now they just write nasty false things about me to Equifax!
  9. If you paid DD cant you get copies of the payments to prove they were all paid? Also how many years is it since you last heard from comet about the account, if it falls on the 6yr+ mark then go for statute barred.
  10. www.annualcreditreport.co.uk Very basic but you can see what if anything is on there, 100% free no card details required. Forgot to add they do send a letter to your address as a security proceedure to confirm identity if I remember correctly before you get access.
  11. go into a main branch of your bank then, explain the situation and ask them to grab back the money, im sure there is a clause with debit cards still for instances like this. I hope you get your cash back and dont end up paying off someone elses debt. DCA's dont care who pays as long as they get the money.
  12. 1st off how did you pay for this, cash, credit card/debit card, if either of the latter demand the bank grab it back under the debit guarantee scheme if im right. Im guessing you kept some form of reciept before handing over such a large amount. Its ashame you didnt find this site before doing anything and CCA'd them 1st to prove it was your debt because now it will be like getting blood out of a stone getting cash back from these scumbags in my experience, even if they are in the wrong. In my opinion Id also say they have fraudulently got that large sum of cash out of you. Im sure someone will be along soon with a lot more knowledge of these dealings can give a better answer.
  13. We had this from Aktiv kapital/thames, sent back the Postal order stating them and their client no longer wished to persue the debt and the account was cleared. Basically "we aint got proof you owe us plus its statute barred and you know too much for your own good about how we work so we might aswell admit defeat"! Its stored in a safe place waiting for the next **** whos been sold it for pennies!
  14. Yep I agree with Jon. Id still send them a strongly worded recorded delivery letter and keep copies outlining their failure to provide you with a service you paid for, keep the thumb screws on and eventually they will sod off for good and leave you alone. Doing this will also give you ammo for disputes if they decide to send a DCA ****** after you, Id complain to anyone who will listen, offcom, TS, consumer direct etc. Not sure if I put it before but also fill in a complaint to their trade body CISAS: Communications & Internet Services Adjudication Scheme basically get their nuts in a vice and keep tightening till they appologize and leave you alone for good!
  15. We consulted the local housing Dept who asked the local coppers. They advised us to display a decent sized CCTV sign in a window on the same side of the house the camera was on you can get one to print off Online-Sign v3 fast free customised printable safety signs in the yellow triangle warning sign section free on that site and im sure you can edit the writing, we added CCTV recording 24/7 and have had no problems at all. We printed it onto an A4 piece of card. Also if the council are aware you have done everything possible not to take in the public footpath they will shove an official cctv in operation on a lamp post near your house to warn people too, we have a few accross from ours for another neighbours cameras.
  16. Try www.consumerdirect.gov.uk there is a search box and info on broadband or give them a call they can give you some helpful advice. Go straight to a written complaint outlining all the problems you have had/are having and that under the t&c of contract they are failing to supply you with the service you are paying for so you want released from any unspent contract without charge and to recieve a MAC code so you can find someone who can supply you with adequate services. Also ISPA - About Us theres a complaints form on there to complain to the trade association which they are members of. Just because they are giving the bull of still changing servers does not mean customers HAVE to put up with crap service nor should they have to pay for a service they can only use a few hrs a day in short burst. Every 5-15 mins we were getting disconnections with them before leaving, then 5 months left of an 18 month contract appeared from nowhere without our knowledge. pffft right I suppose you can guess I really put up with that and being charged for the unspent contract! Good luck
  17. Just to back up the OP. We moved to o2 just weeks ago from a hell of a time from AOL and o2 fall over themselves to help you good or bad. We had some teething problems after connection and they cant do enough for you. Also not sure if its all o2 mobile customers or not but we have o2 pay as you go mobiles have done for years and they sent us an email the other week saying from our next bill we were getting the reduced rate £7.50 and we have never had an o2 contract phone. Im hoping they keep expanding because we are due to move soon but they dont do the area we are moving to at the moment, fingers crossed they do by the time we move or start to not long after moving because other companies we have tried in the past just cant compare. They havent really been in the market long for broadband apparently but if they go on as they have started with excellent customer service etc then I dare say they will become very popular.
  18. I had a friend in a similar situation but with a credit card, he wasnt at the address when it was taken out, wasnt his signature, nothing on the statements was anything he would have bought. I advised him to report it as fraud to the cops, he did they took all the proof, signature, landlord statement stating he lived elsewhere etc, he got a crime reference and passed it all to the DCA end of. He also passed it to the Credit reference agencies and got the defaults removed against his name. If it was me id bypass them and take the fraud route too. Not sure if others will agree.
  19. Hmm now im having to think, approx 2002 was my 1st threat and im still waiting. Even tho they are all now wiped with BR ive had a few letters since that were filed in the round metal thing in the corner maked BIN, Id love a visit from some twit to try collecting on BR debts! I always keep a jug of water near the upstairs window for noisy cats:p
  20. Yep only Thames credit returned the postal order with a letter that the debt would no longer be persued, I kept it and might frame it as a momento lol
  21. 95 id slap them with a statute barred letter advising you do not acknowlege this debt and its statute barred anyways. Other than that laugh at them.
  22. Fredrickson approx june 2007 and some other leech around the same time for the same debt, both were statute barred anyways and heard nowt since.
  23. Just remember dont physically pen and ink sign anything going to a DCA just type your name before you print it off, keep copies and send them recorded delivery, when delivered screenshot and print off a copy of the proof of delivery online and attatch it to the copy letter;)
  24. Have a look here too ISPA - Complaints Procedure might be worth following up your official complaint to AOL with one to their trade association too.
  25. Some are verbal until you put their CD software to setup the router etc on you pc for your connection. Theres usuallysummit there which is usually small print like you agree by installing this software etc you are bound by the T&C's of blah blah and usually your told on the phone wether its a 1,3,6,12 or 18 nonth contract, some like virgin have shorter contracts but a clause that if you cancel before 12 months pass you have to pay so much as a cancellation fee. You can sit back and pay them for the next 3 months for nowt or fight now and get early release because they are failing on their part providing you with technical support for their services they are paid to provide you. I gave you a link above you can call them for advice too. I certainly didnt sit and twiddle my thumbs its gets you nowhere.
