  1. Rooster, well thanks, but I think it is you that has not read my post correctly. I was already in possession of my statements going back 10 years) ( so no need to pay £10 to receive them again....I have read the FAQ's and the HSBC threads before sending my first letter and as far as I could ascertain I could claim six years worth of charges if I had that information to hand. It would seem that the HSBC have accepted that fact as they have not quibbled over the dates that am claiming. (98-04.) Am I to understand then from your comments that if I were to make a court claim then I would only be able to claim from jan 01-jan07 ( 6 years back from today) which would seriously reduce my claim in any case!!! My question remains, can they HSBC refuse refund the interest that I listed along with the charges?
  2. Hi everyone, my first post so be gentle with me. I have been in the process of claiming bank charges plus interest from HSBC from October 22nd and have followed the procedures recommended on this site. I already had my own statements for six years worth of charges ( 1998-2004) and as I didn't have any from 04-06 couldn't claim these of course!!! To cut a long story short this is the story so far: Sent first letter on 22nd October, They tried to phone me on 13th November but I was not in and they sent a follow up letter asking for more time to reply. I complied and waited. Received reply on December 2nd 06 asking for more details of individual charges to be listed. ( fair enough I only totalled them) my fault. I am claiming £807.50 bank charges plus £374.99 interest which appears on the 6 years worth of statements. Totalling £1182.49 Sent second letter with above charges detailed on 3rd December. HSBC replied in early January 07. They wanted four weeks until the 5th Feb 07 to deal with my request for refund. Fair enough, have been waiting. Today, received offer from HSBC offering £727for bank charges only. They said that, and I quote ' We note you have added 'interest' to your request for refund. We do not accept this is appropriate and therefore our offer of a refund does not include any interest'. Question? what should I do now? The £727 is only £80.50 short of the total bank charges amount from Dec 98- Dec 04....Are they right in declining to pay the interest they applied forthat period? Note: I have not added the 8% interest which I understand is applied to these amounts when you make a court claim? Any advice please, as am tempted, but want to do the right thing.
