*HALIFAX MK 2 and account closure threat - NEW*
howardbrown replied to Bovvered's topic in Halifax Bank and Bank of Scotland
2 small points the £12 oft recommendation was in regard to credit card charges. the charge of 2 months interest is standard for the early closure of a loan, the bank loan you the money so they can make money, and you agree to a payment plan, you are breaking that plan, therefore the bank explain you will pay 2 months interest, if you don't want to pay it, just pay the loan as you would normally. or do you see any fee/charge/payment as an excuse to cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war? -
they are not a penalty charge, they are a fee for a service. why don't you see if you can claim back the purchases you make aswell?

Banks a lot for luring clients into red---
howardbrown replied to xiona's topic in A Word from the Banks
halifax, like all banks have a bonus scheme, but all lending like the other two mentioned is checked, all loan affordability is worked out from figures supplied by the applicant, so it is part of the reviewer's job to make sure these figures are as accurate as possible -
i go onto my pc, the enquires program, click on copy statement request, put in the dates required, click ok. that isn't too much help, as it is the procedure the bank worker follows, and is for all accounts.

go to your local branch, and order copy statements. took some thought that like

silly question time..........(i seem to do a lot of that on here....) what were you expecting?
-
thank you, new to me, the way we are told about early repayment, is it is the outstanding capital, plus 2 montyhs interest
-
we do quite a few checks when it is presented, even when it is at the dsame branch it is drawn, anything doesn't add up, it goes straight into the normal clearing system, and an investigation is started at the same time.

Avoid being charged in the first place...
howardbrown replied to bram stoker's topic in A Word from the Banks
wish we had that at the halifax -
ok, i apologise for posting again, but here goes. at the halifax where i work, and deal with drafts all the time. we can stop them, but only on reciept of written authourity from the payee on the draft, that is the only way we can do it, and get the customer to sign to accept that is the only way it will be stopped. we can pay a halifax draft into a halifax account as cleared funds, slighty different procedures if it is the drawing branch, or another one, but end result is the funds available straight away. hope that helps in any way.

overdraft increase letter . error
howardbrown replied to Janet-M's topic in Halifax Bank and Bank of Scotland
overdrafts have been increased on a lot of current accounts automatically. of course it is selected customers, and not nessessarily the ones who need it the most. -

i can't take a viewpoint against my employer, but i can try and play devil's advocate, explaining in human terms rather than bankish about stuff i know about. -
very true, we are limited in what we can do, but believe it or not, most people who work for the banks are human, (the real howard brown is a robot!!!!!), and we do understand, most of us have been charged from time to time aswell, and understand what you are saying

yeah, i've had a busy day, and having a couple of beers while catching up with what the poor people who pay my bonus are upto....... that's what you want me to say, but aswell as working for the halifax, i am also a customer, and knowing what goes on on both sides of the counter is good for me personally -

have you read the title of this thread? -
i work on the counter, so out of all the varying jobs in banking have the most contact with the general public, and the vast majority who speak to us, we do everything we can to help them, but the ones we can't help are the ones who don't ask for help. now, maybe the bank was to blame for cashing those cheques, but the customer should also shoulder some of the blame aswell maybe?

the blagging of the statements by telling untrue stories to the banks. if you want them, wait for the complete set sent out with the dpa request, or better still, don't lose them in the first place............. -
trying to understand why, knowing that charges will be brought against the account, they would still continue doing it, would it not of been easier to talk, before acting?

'given' back is if and when you receive a payment from them, or is a flat rate charged for a service (providing statements, not under a dpa request) also 'unlawful' and yes i do, i work for halifax plc, if you look in the 'word from the banks' section, you'll see i asked (eventually) for permission to post from home, not work. -
one or two, i can see as a short term fix, but 10 to 20?
