  1. The issue seems to be that "the software" is faulty...if that were the case the software (being the only common feature if installed on various systems) would fail to run as expected. If the software works on other pc's, you could therefore assume that the software itself is in fact fault free. If it works on other systems but not on YOUR system, then logic would indicate that it may well be YOUR system, YOUR windows install or an incompatability with any of the other applications or drivers on YOUR system. PS not sticking up for PCW, just using the most logical, fault finding i can. as this is the route i went down MANY times.if it didnt work on other systems then offer the refund coz it aint worth the argument!

Whatever PCW state as their "procedures" are only the co guidlines...they cannot overrule your rights as a consumer. Where does PCW's 30 days = a reasonable time come from?, just curious, as it is actually 7, 14, 28 or 365 days (dependant on the product concerned) that PCW's returns policies refer to.(although the majority of the time they will stick to the 28 day option.

If they have offered store credit, ask them if this is because of the fault with the laptop. if they say yes, you are legally entitled to a full refund as they have accpeted the goods are faulty. (you are entitled to reject the option of a repair, irrespective of the goods being refurbished) hope this helps!
  4. Hi, this is my first post here so i apologise in advance if i bend any rules by posting this!!... Anyway, PCW will stick to their "12mht Warranty / go to the manufacturer stuff" becasue thats what the people instore are taught... the truth of the matter is that there is a big grey area arounfd the "reasonable amount of time a product should function". It is PCW's responcibilty as they sold you the goods, not the manufacturer (who PCW may get to inspect or repair the product at their discretion). As there is no legal definition to " a reasonable amount of time" most retailers stick to the 12 mth rule. (the truth of the matter is that after the first 12mths PCW would have to pay compaq to inspect or repair the product. If you would like the names of the people at the top of the tree to contact, please pm or email me directly and i will supply them ( i will not post them here on an open forum,i'm sure you can figure out why!!) Best of luck, PS i wouild really appriciate anybody can help on the matters i have posted here.... Bank Witholding Tax Credits - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums or here... Bank taking your Benefit?
