  3. congratulations - apart from the DPa almost exactly the same as my case. Submitted on the same day, acknowledged and we got our cheque today too! Enjoy spending it all
  4. thanks - does seem pretty painless but was worried in case we would be the ones!! Have filled in the survey now - thanks for reminding me.
  5. Received a cheque this morning for the full amount plus interest and the court costs. Really happy with all this - shall donate some money to the cause once the cheque gets cleared. Thanks all for the website.
  6. I'd been away from home last week and didn't see this letter that they had sent me - it was well after my deadline for court action anyway which I'd done a couple of days before. Basically it was saying charges are in line etc etc but they awarded us £100 as a goodwill gesture. Since I'd already done the moneyclaim and it's been acknowledged should I do anything about this letter? Or should I still sit tight as they obvioulsy know what my next step was? Thanks in advance
  7. Just to update - A&L have acknowledged the claim after 2 days and have said they are intending to defend the case. From reading round this sounds fairly normal so not too worried yet - here's hoping that they'll settle before long.
  8. Hi everyone, my partner has an account with A&L and we've been going through the motions to claim back £900 worth of charges applied since 2002. We've sent the initial letter, letter before action and on Friday we put through the moneyclaim. Just sitting tight now and wondering what the next step will be! I found loads of pre 2000 statements the other day and it's amazing how little they charged then and what they charge now. You would think that as time goes by the charges would get less as they get better equipment to deal with it. Obviously not though! Kirsty
  9. replying to myself here have been looking round the site more and read a post on the RBS thread about the jurisdiction of the account. Since all the accounts were opened in England, I'm assuming now that I should in fact keep it within English Law. So - next question. Which court should I apply to if I need to get to that stage? The nearest one I can travel to over the border? Or should I go to where I used to live and near where the accounts were opened? Or is it entirely up to me? Latter option would be best I suppose as I have family still there. Woulbe be grateful for any thoughts.
  10. thanks for the advice. How do I know if my account is still held with that branch though? As far as I'm aware I haven't changed the branch, but I know the address details have been changed with them both. Feeling more wobbly about it all now!!
  11. Hi all, had a browse round the site today - good work. I looked into this at the beginning of the year when I was living in England and a quick change of circumstances has led us to be living in scotland only a month or so later so I never got round to doing anything. My partner has details of his account with A&L and we're sending off a letter tomorrow asking for refund of charges. I think I understand (for the moment!) what I have to do with regards to that one. I also have a Halifax and old (closed) Barclays I'd like to look into. The first step will be getting the list of charges. I just wanted to check really, si the whole Data Protection Act line I have on my letter relevant to Scotland too? Am planning to write this: I would like to request a list of charges levied on my account in the last 6 years. I am entitled to this information under the Data Protection Act 1998. If you do not provide me with this information then you will be in contravention of Pt iv exemptions – specifically ch.35 sub sections 1.2(a) and (b) (more specifically(a)) Just want to check it's all right before I send it off. If someone could help I'd be really grateful.
